Wednesday GRADUATION May 29, 2019 EDITION INSIDE TODAY 50¢ One Section www.perrynewspapers.com 56th year, No. 22 Serving the Tree Capital of the South Since 1963 Two-year-old dead in likely pool mishap

A two-year-old Taylor County girl died Friday, May 24 -- the victim of an apparent drowning -- after being found unresponsive in an above ground pool at a home in the Leisure Retreats area. An autopsy was conducted Sunday and investigators are not releasing results at this time due to the ongoing investigation, Taylor County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) Capt. Jimmy Cash said Tuesday. “This is such a horrible tragedy. Our hearts, thoughts and prayers are with the family of this child and the first responders who attempted to save this child’s life,” he said. “As we are gearing up for a long, hot summer, please remember that according to the Florida Department of Health, the leading cause of death for children 1-4 years of age is drowning. If you own a swimming pool, studies have shown that creating a barrier such as fencing around the pool can reduce the chances of a small child drowning by 50 percent,” Cash noted. ➟ Please see page 3 TCDA will soon begin search for a new director The Taylor County them,” according to TCDA Development Authority Attorney Ray Curtis. Baccalaureate Service honors senior class Proud parents of the Taylor County High School graduating class of 2019 crowded into First Baptist Church on Wednesday, May 22 for the 2019 TCHS Baccalaureate Service honoring this year’s senior class. Antioch Missionary Church Pastor Tony Graham delivered a poignant and powerful message before a great crowd, thanks in large part to TCHS administrators and church officials agreeing to change the date to avoid a conflict with the Senior Trip to New York. A highlight of the evening was a song selection delivered by members of an interdenominational choir from several local churches. First Baptist Church Pastor Steven Ruff and all of the local churches who participated were thanked for donating their time, talents and monetary gifts.
