 2.1 – Presidents Report

Season 2015 has been a huge success for the . Some of the major achievements have come from minor changes.

The expansion of 5 extra teams in 2015, 18 junior and 5 senior teams giving 512 players the opportunity to represent the Keilor Football Club is a credit to the families and volunteers involved.

Premierships in our second senior team, under 14 and junior girls teams has been a reward for the coaches and support staff that committed to making the year a success.

AUSKICK & JUNIOR TEAMS

Auskick was moved to Friday nights and the numbers swelled to 217 participants including our first all girls group and Merryn Auld wining the EDFL female coach of the year.

To have 13 junior teams involved in finals is an amazing effort and a great reward to all families and volunteers involved. Credit must go to the energy and dedication of our junior president Andrew McDonald and Auskick co-ordinator Billy Allwood.

SENIOR TEAMS

Our senior and under 18 squads represented the club deep into September with 3 teams in Grand Finals and 2 in preliminary finals. Commitment and professionalism from Mick McGuane and the senior coaching staff, through to Paul Barbuto and Hannah Wilson has placed the club in a great position leading into season 2016.

SOCIAL

The social calendar was full with a number of incredibly successful nights and lunches. A couple of highlights for myself were the Players Review, Cocktail Party, Fashion Parade as well as the festival atmosphere after the Lady’s Lunch / Greenvale victory. All events proved to be a great success and profitable for the club with the assistance of Donna Whiffin and Corey Wilkes.

Our canteen and meals were rejuvenated with a new chef and an amazing group of volunteers serving up to 230 players, coaches and supporters on a Thursday night as well as Saturdays and Sundays in the canteen. Anne Maree Klimans dedication and can do attitude turned around facilities and functions from good to great this year. She has been a pleasure to work alongside.

SPONSORSHIP

The Sponsorship Team had dedicated and energetic committee members in Sam Barbuto and Shaun Morris who expanded our group by more than 60%. I would like to thank all our sponsors and Club Keilor members for both the financial support and the commitment to making the Keilor Football Club a great place to socialise and support grass roots football.

KFC ACHIEVEMENTS

2014 draft was one of the proudest days in the Keilor Football Clubs history. Four of our talented young men were drafted into the AFL system. The Keilor Football Club would like to take this opportunity to congratulate , , and Damian Cavka on a fantastic achievement. I watch with interest to see these fine young men develop into elite footballers and community leaders.

The Keilor Football Club was awarded the Brimbank City Council Sports Club of the Year, a great reward for the hard work and commitment from families and all the volunteers involved in our Club.

FINANCE

This year the club introduced EFTPOS facilities as well as an accounting system. Complete with budgets and forecasted profitability on all functions and events. Ray Sheridan’s commitment to keeping transparent records throughout the season and reaching all targets set has been a credit to himself and a valuable asset to our club.

THANK YOU

Professionalism, commitment and fun are the 3 things that the Executive committee posses. I thank you all for a great year and an unbelievable experience in 2015. As one member noted it’s not about us it’s about the club.

A special thanks to Kerryn Jones for her commitment to the club as Secretary for the first half of the season and a big welcome to Craig Hill as the new Club Secretary.

Volunteers, players, coaches, support staff and sponsors are the heart beat of our community club. We should all be very proud of what we have achieved together in Season 2015.

2016 is going to be even better.

2. Executive Reports

 2.2 – Treasurer Report

To all Executive members and members of the Keilor Football club I present the Annual Treasures report and financials for 2015 season 1 Oct 2014 to 30 September 2015.

I would like to thank Brad, the committee and everyone associated with the Keilor Football Club for their support in my role as Treasurer of the Keilor Football Club. It is very pleasing to be able to work with a group who have one goal in mind which is to ensure the success of the Keilor Football Club continues.

This season marked a significate change in the executive group and I must admit the amount of time and effort required was under estimated by me.

This year the club implemented MYOB accounting software, changed the financial reporting format and introduced EFT payments and EFTPOS which certainly helped and reduced the need to handle as much cash.

There were a number of factors this year which help contribute to the improved result.

This season we have been able to fully utilise the refurbished ground and changes rooms which improved the overall patronage for the club. We also had the benefit of the canteens at both Keilor and Green Gully and the kitchen operating all season and being well support by all the members. There were a couple of extraordinary items; the kick start donation and AFL draft fees for the 4 boys which contributed to the overall result. It’s important to remember that next year we won’t have the benefit of these.

We also had an increase in Club Sponsorship and the fund raising committee ran a number of varied fund raising nights and events which proved to be very popular with the players and supporters. Also with increase in the number of the functions at the Sports Club saw a direct increase in the bar sales and meals which lead to a larger return to the Football Club.

Season 2015 has seen the club generate a profit of $23,576.00 up from $18,352.00 as reported, which is a fantastic result.

Planning for next season has started and budgets are well underway, the Exec still has some tough financial decisions to make and is preparing a strategy to enable the continued level of debt reduction to continue.

On personal note I’d like to thank Keith and Marita who helped and supported me throughout the year and off course all the others who have also assisted me and made my role much easier.

Thankyou

Ray Sheridan

 2.3 – Secretary Report

Firstly a tremendous thank you to Kerryn Sharpe for her commitment whilst performing the club Secretary role for the past two season 2014 & 2015. Since taking over the Secretary role during the season, Kerryn has been extremely helpful with the transition to ensure as smooth as possible for myself. Thank you Kerryn

Our club relationship remains very strong with the Brimbank City Council, which as always they assisted with ground management of both Keilor Oval and Green Gully Reserve Oval, especially during the pre season period. With the Council assistance, across the Seniors and Junior side of the club, pre season was at venues including Keilor Oval, Green Gully Reserve, Keilor Park Synthetics, Overnewton Senior Campus and Errington Reserve in St Albans.

Again this year we played junior Football at Green Gully as our 2nd ground with all junior teams playing at Green Gully during the year as well as Keilor Oval. U18 Div 2 also played some home games at Green Gully.

Thank you to Andrew McDonald, along with all the junior coaches and co-ordinators for working together to make Green Gully work, as it ultimately helps protect our surface at Keilor and will continue to be an asset in the future.

Whilst our relationship with the Council is excellent, our relationship with the EDFL also remains strong and all the staff at the EDFL have been extremely co-operative to myself when starting in this role mid way through the year. I look forward to understanding and dealing with the EDFL at a greater level in 2015 in a positive manner.

To Brad and the committee, thank you for your patience and understanding, whilst I got comfortable with the role. You along with Kerryn have made the transition much easier that I initially anticipated.

Whilst only in the role for a short period in 2015, it was enough time to understand that I now look forward to 2016, as we have many terrific people within our football club, both on the committee and within the club in general. I am and the club as a whole should look forward to a highly successful 2016 on and off the field.

 2.4 – Football Operations Report

It is with great pleasure that I submit this report to the members, supporters, sponsors and players of the Keilor Football Club.

As a senior body I believe that we can be reasonably satisfied with what we have achieved this year. The introduction of our second Under 18 team and our Thirds Open Age side increased the total number of teams representing Keilor from 3 to 5. All 5 of these teams made the finals, with 3 of them playing in Grand Finals. The end result was 1 premiership for our Reserves side which is still being celebrated as this report is being written.

The introduction of the AFL sponsored state-wide points system in 2016 will change the recruiting landscape for all clubs. The points system, coupled with the introduction of the salary cap in 2017 will bring much needed stability to spiralling player payments and movements. The Keilor Football Club has completed significant analytical work on its current playing roster and is well poised to work within the framework of the points system and salary caps being proposed.

The recruiting process for season 2016 has already begun. We are confident that we will retain most of our current playing list, and have already signed several highly credentialed recruits to the club. The reality is that we must improve our list every year in order to remain competitive in A Grade. There are also a number of coaching and assistant coaching positions that we will need to fill and we are aiming to have new appointees announced in the not too distant future.

Seniors

At the end of last season we identified that we needed to add depth to our senior list in order to remain competitive in A Grade. This was achieved with a total of 14 new recruits playing in our senior side during the course of the year. A further 3 graduates from our Under 18’s team in Dylan D’Cruz, James Latham and Jay White also gained exposure to A Grade football at various stages throughout the year.

To put this into perspective we only played a total of 30 different players in the A Grade side throughout the year, and more than half of these were either recruits or debutants to the A Grade side.

To get to a Preliminary Final with the squad we assembled was a satisfactory result. The 2 teams that played off on Grand Final day both invested significantly larger amounts of money than we did in the pursuit of premiership glory. Keilor has no desire to perpetuate the inflationary pressure on player payments that currently exists. We will focus on creating an environment and culture that attracts players to our club, rather than simply paying them to come there. We will also continue to ensure that a pathway exists so that our talented junior players can migrate across to our senior teams.

Reserves

To Paul White, his support team and players, congratulations on bringing home a well deserved premiership. You were by far the best team throughout the course of the year and are deserving of your hard fought grand final victory. I am sure that your premiership celebrations will continue for many weeks to come.

I have always held a very strong belief that to be a successful A Grade club you must have a strong reserves side. A reserves side full of players that perform well week after week places pressure on senior players to continuously perform well or lose their spots, and this was certainly the case in 2015. It is also pleasing to note that 16 of the starting 22 players in our reserves grade premiership team were graduates from our juniors.

From a club perspective it is unfortunate that Paul White has indicated that he will not be in a position to continue on as Reserves Coach next year. Paul has personal commitments that will not afford him the time to dedicate to coaching which is unfortunate for the Keilor Football Club. On behalf of all of us we say thank you for the excellent job in 2015.

Thirds

The Thirds Competition has proved to be a major success and it is hoped that it will grow to 10 teams within the next 2 years.

From a Keilor Football Club perspective it proved to be a godsend as it afforded us the ability to give another 22 guys a game of football each weekend. The standard of most games was surprisingly quite high and I am confident in stating that our thirds team would have beaten many of the reserves teams playing this season.

To John Wellington and his support staff, thank you for a job well done. To be undefeated for the entire year, and to then be beaten in the Grand Final is however tragic. We should not be satisfied with this result as it is certainly the one that got away. We need to dust ourselves off and make sure that we go one better in season 2016.

Under 18 Premier Division

To Peter Sahlberg and his Under 18 support team, the club congratulates you on a strong performance throughout the year. In the end it was not to be on the day that counted the most. As disappointed as we were on the day, the club acknowledges that making the Grand Final was in itself a really good result.

Peter, the club thanks you for what you have done with the Under 18 team this year. Thanks also for having the courage to make tough decisions when they were required to be made. Many others would perhaps have shied away from them. The club is mindful of the fact that it is as strong as it is today because it is prepared to make tough decisions.

Thanks also for nurturing the Under 18 players that will at some stage in the not too distant future migrate across to our open age teams.

Under 18 Division 2

This was the first year in a while that the club fielded a second under 18’s side. This also proved to be a major success for the club as without it many of these young players would have been lost to the club.

To Rob Davis and his support team, you should collectively be extremely proud of what you have achieved during this season. At the start of the year numbers proved to be a bit of a struggle, and the results were not going our way. Against the odds however you worked diligently to entice players back to the club and all of your hard work paid off.

To make a Preliminary Final in our first year back in this competition exceeded all expectations, so well done.

In closing I will resist the temptation of thanking individuals as I run the risk of leaving someone out and offending them. Collectively I would like to thank all those individuals that gave their time to assist in any sort of match day role. Here I refer to the trainers, team managers, umpires escorts, statisticians, runners, water boys, scoreboard attendants, etc. Without you donating your time life would have been extremely difficult. I am sure that each and every one of you enjoyed your involvement and trust that you all return in season 2016.

Finally, a football club is only as strong as its Executive. The Keilor Football Club is extremely fortunate to have the quality and calibre of people that it has on its Executive. I thank each and every one of them for their support throughout the year and for making our time together enjoyable.

Continue to enjoy the memories of 2015, but at the same time prepare for the challenges of season 2016 which is rapidly approaching.

 2.5 – Junior Report

The 2015 preseason started off with a positive numbers on registration day. The 8s & 10s numbers were great as a result of a successful summer program. The club will have a trough of low numbers progressing through the age levels each year. In 2015, the low is at the start of 12s and at the end of 10s. 2016 will be a low numbers year in 12s.

The players all received a shirt, ball and boot bag as a part of their registration in 2015. The training shirts looked very smart and professional and were a great success at both training and also on game day. The balls, while looking great, did not have the uptake to bring to training that we expected. We will look at the inclusions for 2016, but the training shirts are a definite starter.

Preseason went smoothly with most teams being sorted by the end of March and a number of practice matches completed. We were off and running into the season very quickly. I will leave the season / age group reviews to the individual sections below.

Thankyou

As we are an entity that is heavily reliant on volunteers, we need to ensure that they are all duly thanked. From a Junior perspective it requires up to 15 people to volunteer for an away game and up to 21 for a home game when you add canteen. A massive “thankyou” to all the volunteers. The amount of input from the families makes a significant difference at Keilor and is a part the reason that our club so great. To the core volunteers, those being runners, assistant coaches and especially the trainers, thank you all so much for your extra efforts. To some of those other people who while also completing weekly match day duties, also worked behind the scenes. Two examples I would like to mention are: Craig Boyle (line marking ovals) and David Cameron (Facilities & Equipment)

Coaches – You have all done an amazing job to develop the players in skills and attitude. The amount of time that you all put in both on and off the field is outstanding. I am sure that I speak for all parents and thank you all so much for your work.

Team Managers - I am sure that all families echo my thanks for the work that you all completed from stating with unknown team lists through to one of the most difficult tasks, gathering coaches comments post season.

Co-ordinators – I would like to thank you all for your work throughout the year , the hectic time of sorting teams at the start of the season and through out by supporting Team Managers to keeping the peace. A special mention to Tony O’Kearney who checked and prepared all Team Kits, but also arranged and coordinated all trophies.

I would just like to repeat that the level of involvement we have from families in a volunteer capacity is something that really sets Keilor Football Club apart. Thanks for supporting your children.

Girls Football

2015 was the second year that Keilor Football Club was involved in running Female teams in the EDFL. Keilor Football Club has consolidated it’s achievements in this field and has quickly established its self as one of the leading female football clubs in the EDFL with both Junior Girls and Youth Girls sides. Both had positive finals campaigns.

This was the first year that the EDFL promoted a Junior Girls (U13s) competition and on the back of the success and popularity of the Youth Girls side in 2014. As a club, we decided to also support the launch of a Junior Girls side. Thanks to the drive again of Warren Grunden – we started the year with ample numbers. The season was not an ideal environment for a team to be operating as the league essentially only had three teams. There were a few other clubs that had indicated that they would start , however m they did not get the numbers. The league (like youth girls) was combined with the WRFL and the other two teams were Uni (EDFL) and Caroline Springs (WRFL). With regular byes and the number of games fixtures not being fulfilling, Warren arranged to play some non points practice games with bye sides from Northern Football league against the likes of Greensborough. This helped maintain enthusiasm.

The Junior Girls season did progress favourably for the fixture games however and our Junior Girls side went through the season undefeated after 8 games. Then the girls took it a step further and secured a premiership in the Grand Final with a very dominant display over Caroline Springs.

The Youth Girls built on the solid foundations from last year. We quickly reached our maximum quota of players, soon after Registration Day. With Bernie Williams back in the Coaches seat, the Youth Girls not only began to string series of wins in a row, but very quickly established themselves as one of the dominant teams of the combined competition. By the end of the regular season they had secured 3rd spot in a competition with 14 teams. Ending up with 11 wins, 2 losses & a bye from the 14 Rounds. The girls won the 1st Semi over Deer Park in a close game 24 to 17 and progressed to the Preliminary Final against Melbourne Uni. The team fought well to the end, but unfortunately went down 18 to 32 to the eventual Premiers. It was an outstanding effort from this group of girls in their second year.

Under 8s

The Under 8s program was new to Keilor Football Club in 2015. It was the second year that the EDFL has included the competition in the League. Keilor Football Club did not elect to run U8s in 2014 due the ground restrictions that year. The competition does not have any ladder or weekly scores (although the kids do know !). There is no tackling and the field is essentially within the 50meter arc and divided into three segments (forwards / centres / backs) so that all get a fair go.

In 2015 we anticipated having two teams of 12 players (which is the max). After a couple of weeks in and a few more enquiries, we realised that many other teams had 9 or 10 players and we had to match them on the field. So in order to increase game time and accommodate interest, we created a 3rd side. We named the sides Blue, Red & White as there is no divisions.

We were extremely lucky with the coaches for U8s in 2015. We had three outstanding coaches that all provided excellent guidance for this age group. Darren Milburn, a name well known at the club stepped up to coach the 3rd side when it was created. Darren Brennan, an extremely well credentialed & awarded Auskick Coach lead the Red team and the Seniors Coach, Mick McGuane held the reigns for the Blue Team.

Apart from also being Team Manager for the Blue side, Che Higgs took on the role of 8s Coordinator with the support of Leela Allison who was also the U10s co-ordinator. A big THANK YOU to both Che & Leela for their efforts in making U8s successful

To all the parents of U8s and especially the Team Managers - the group ran extremely well and this is due to the effort of you all.

In 2016 we anticipate and plan to have 4 x U8s teams.

Under 10s

As an Under 10 group, there was genuine excitement heading into the 2015 season. Looking back on the previous 2014 season, it was a stabilising year, as we could only field 2 teams, due to a considerable decline in numbers and depth. As such, when the 2015 pre-season rolled around, we were all really buoyed by the increase in player numbers on paper and on the training track. As a result, we were able to field 3 teams in Under 10’s in 2015, each with 21 or 22 players, which is ideal to ensure all the kids get plenty of opportunity. Credit must go to our Auskick program which is going from strength to strength, and our 14/15 Summer Clinics, which were a great success, and certainly contributed to our player retention.

Our first Under 10 side commenced the year in Division 2 under coach Steven Long. With a good spread of talent, which included 14 top age and 8 bottom age players, we quickly proved to be a strong side in Division 2, and after 4 rounds, we sat on top of the ladder with 4 wins and 800%. As a result we were re-graded up to Division 1, which was a tremendous endorsement of our progress as a club. Whilst we were outclassed at times against the top sides, by seasons end we had made impressive progress, and a sensational last round victory secured a thoroughly deserved finals berth. Unfortunately our finals campaign ended at the first hurdle, but simply reaching the finals in Division 1, greatly surpassed all of our 2015 expectations.

Our second Under 10 side competed in Division 5 under first-time coach Bobby Devic, who stepped up from Auskick. And our third Under 10 side played in Division 8 under first-time coach Adrian Minnitti, who has previously played senior footy at Keilor. Despite limited victories early in the year, both coaches did an outstanding job with their positive reinforcement. Impressively, both teams built considerable momentum throughout the season, which was ultimately rewarded with Semi Final appearances. It was delightful to see the expressions on the kid’s faces after a win or kicking a goal. Well done to Bobby and Adrian on a very successful season.

On reflection, the 2015 season was a tremendous success for our Under 10 group. From a club perspective, the rebuilding of our base has commenced, and looking towards 2016, we are well placed to field 4 Under 10 teams once more, including a competitive team in Division 1. We also welcomed two new junior coaches, who thoroughly enjoyed their roles, and have successfully developed our youngest talent pool. It was a real bonus to have all 3 sides played in finals, as this provides a fantastic experience for all the kids and parents alike. And lastly, it was great to be back training and playing on our home turf at Keilor, which makes such a huge difference to kids and families who are starting their football journey.

 2.5 – Junior Report (Con’t) Under 12s

In terms of groups, the U12 group had a very tough year. With the numbers registered we launched 3 teams with 22 players per team. Also the 12/3 and 12/6 teams did not appear to be graded in the appropriate divisions. As mentioned in 10s, we have a lack of numbers across this age group in 2015 and both 12/3 & 12/6 should have started in lower divisions (prior to grading)

The Under 12/1 team lead by Mat Thorley performed well throughout the season and secured 2nd spot on the ladder with 12 wins and 2 losses. However moving into finals, injuries began to take their toll on the team. The team fought gallantly in the 2nd Semi to go down to Strathmore by 7 points (eventual Premiers) and then in the Preliminary final had a flurry of further injuries and subsequently could not match Aberfeldie and bowed out in the Prelim. Under 12 Div 3 had the toughest year of all Junior teams with one win in the grading period. Adam Brodie and the boys fought week in and week out to go up against other clubs firsts sides. The boys represented the club very well in their efforts and willingness to continue each week. Under 12 Div 6, had a late arriving coach in the form of Damon Kliman. Damon plays senior football at the club and took on the challenge to develop the Division 6 boys. The team had two wins with their 2nd coming in the second last week against Hillside. The team mainly consisted of first year (to football) players and it was a good development year for these boys. EDFL Representation - Brock Jacobsen represented EDFL U13 B Side (Best on Ground) Coordinator – Jodie Panayi . Thanks to Jodie for her efforts during a challenging year.

Under 14s

Overall, Under 14s was a very successful age group. With all four sides making either Preliminary or Grand Finals with the Division 3 team coming away with a flag. Like U12s we had just enough player for 4 teams and this meant that we were a little short when injuries were incurred

Under 14 Division 1 under the Guidance of Jose Romero had a solid year finishing in 2nd place with 11 wins, 2 losses and a draw. With all four Under 14 teams competing in finals and a few injuries, the 14 /1s came up against Strathmore in the Preliminary final and just did not have the firepower on the park to get the job done. The skill and talent on display in the 14/1 team was very good, we just lacked those two or three extras on the bench to carry us through

The Under 14 Division 3 side also finished 2nd on the ladder with 11& 3. Lead by Grant Evans, the team had a solid year. They lost to Strathmore in the 2nd Semi and had to face Hillside in the Preliminary Final to go back up and play Strathmore in the Grand Final. They beat Hillside convincingly and then proceeded to face Strathmore in the Grand Final. The boys played very well to overrun Strathmore 67 to 56 in a close game. Well done to Grant and the boys on bringing home the flag.

Phil Gasket was at the helm of the Under 14 Division 5 team. The team had a rocky front end of the season, however they began to build & strengthen in the back half to finish 3rd on the ladder with 8 wins and 4 losses. The boys easily accounted for Strathmore in the 1st Semi and then Aberfeldie in the Preliminary final to progress to the Grand Final against Westmeadows. It was a fantastic effort by the 14/5s to make the Grand Final. The boys came away from the Grand Final as Runners Up after facing a very strong Westmeadows on the day

The 14/6 team started the year very strong and looked to be in a good division until after grading. This is when a few teams came down from the division above (Hillside & Keilor Park) While the team did well to finish on the top of the ladder, the teams that came down were very competitive and our guys fought well to retain a position in the Preliminary final, however went down to Hillside by 19 points in the Preliminary Final

 2.5 – Junior Report (Con’t) Under 16s

The Under 16s had a very successful year in terms of results and development. The Division 1 side looked strong all year and finished the year on top in the division with a 12 / 2 Win / Loss ratio. An outstanding effort! Unfortunately the could not get across the line v Doutta Stars in the Grand Final and went down by 31 points. The Division 2 side was regraded up from Division 3 and this was a move that placed pressure on the boys to play at a higher level. The boys were matched up against other clubs first teams (all other 7 teams) and this forced the boys to have to play tougher and harder football. As a result, the boys all developed more than if they were having solid wins. In the end the team finished 3rd on the ladder which was an excellent result considering the division. The boys went out in the 1st semi to Marby Park The Division 4 boys had a mixed bag throughout the year, with some great stirring wins against Westmeadows after being beaten earlier in the season. The boys showed that when they wanted to – they can string a good win together. There was a couple of strong teams in this competition. They scraped into the finals in 5th place and went down by one point in a nail biter elimination final to their nemesis for the season – Westmeadows

 3.1 – Premier Division - Mick McGuane

First and foremost, I must emphasise how proud I am of the coaches and players for their efforts throughout season 2015.

To have all 5 of our senior teams participate in finals is a credit to everyone involved in our club.

Obviously, the highlight of our year was winning the reserves premiership. To Paul White (Budda) and his assistants, Kevin Finn as captain, it was a memorable victory and fully deserved.

The seniors had a fantastic Home & Away season. We recorded 13 wins which was enough to qualify for another finals campaign. After a disappointing exit last year we were determined to rectify the wrongs from 12 months ago. Our players were desperate to win a final this year. And that’s what we did; a 49 point win against Pascoe Vale. That was seen as progress and confirmation to us as coaches we had indeed improved from last year.

Our team’s performance was built on consistent form and continuity. We won 10 of our last 12 games we played losing only to this year’s Grand Final teams in Aberfeldie and Greenvale.

A total of 15 new faces wore the coveted Keilor jumper at senior level for the first time. Injury wise we were reasonably healthy hence only 30 players represented our club at senior level.

A lot of credit must go to our magnificent trainers. Pacey, Bobby, Paul, Rohan, Emma, Ray and Gary must all be thanked for the commitment and sacrifice that they give to our players and club. Their care and understanding of our players needs paves the way for a healthy list. This in turn gives the coaches every opportunity to pick our best team.

I must thank Paul Barbuto and Hannah Wilson in Footy Operations. Your combined support to the coaches and players is much appreciated. Both of you are very professional and diligent.

Mark Opar in his dual role as senior runner and club physiotherapist did an outstanding job.

Shaun Morris, our senior board man, a big thank you. Your loyalty and passion to our club can never be questioned.

Paul Gluschenko and Elise Selimi as our statisticians do a remarkable job on match day. Our stats are important for immediate feedback on game day and are used as a coaching tool throughout the week for player development. Again, big thank you.

Matty Walker as our opposition analyst did a fantastic job. Your contribution gives us a head start in our planning process for our upcoming opponent. Well done.

To my loyal assistant coaches in Bluey, Brendan and Dicko many thanks. We had a great and enjoyable year together. Your unwavering support and dedication could never be questioned.

Finally, big thanks to Brad Bult and his executive. I really value your trust in giving me the opportunity to coach our club. Any club is only as strong as its administration. Your support to the coaches and players is clearly respected by us all.

2016 is a new year for us all. ‘There is no elevator to success. We have to take the stairs”

 3.2 – Premier Division Reserves – Paul White

The 2015 season saw the Reserves play a total of 20 Games, conjuring 18 wins, 2 losses and winning the Grand Final. In the Reserves this season we witnessed a rotation of 46 players in total, including a combination of 3 first year players up from the under 18’s. Of the 46 that played in the Reserves grade, we had a total of 12 players that represented the club at senior level. There were only two losses for the season, both against Aberfeldie. All other games were won convincingly via great team effort and strong structures. During my time over past two years, I was assisted by a number of fantastic Keilor people on the side lines. Special thanks to Jason Thorley, Wayne Miles and Drew Elliott. Extra thanks to Mussey Reeves as Team Manager, Paul Barbuto as Football Operations Manager, ably assisted by Hannah Wilson. Finally special thanks to both Kevin Finn & Steven Pace as Captain and Vice Captain for their leadership roles during the season. Most of all thank you to Mick McGuane as senior coach for all his constant support and guidance throughout the year. Unfortunately due to work and travel commitments next year, I will not be able to continue on as Reserves Coach next year. I’m of the strong belief that with the talent we witnessed this year, and the up and coming under 18’s, there is a fantastic chance the Keilor Reserves side can go back to back in season 2016. I wish the new appointed Coach all the best for the coming year. I’d like to thank the Keilor Football Club for this fantastic opportunity once again.

Kind Regards

 3.3 – Senior Thirds – John Wellington

Firstly I'd like to thank the Keilor Football Club for giving me the great opportunity to coach and mentor such a great group of young men who made fantastic progress throughout season 2015.

Due to this group’s fantastic attitude and willingness to learn and improve I can honestly say that every player on this list is now a more accomplished player than at the start of the season. This is an achievement in itself and all the boys are to be congratulated on their efforts especially given the difficulties caused with the disjointed training arrangements, the need to play at opposing grounds to our other three senior sides, etc.

We created a team culture which consisted of us sticking to team structures and each individual playing their designated role within the side. We prided ourselves on being hard at the contest and taking the game on at every chance, whilst at the same time being disciplined and enjoying the game along the way.

I was extremely proud of the boys finishing on top of the ladder at the end of the home and away season, which gave us the double chance. This was a great achievement as it was the inaugural season of the Thirds competition and we didn't know what to expect.

After beating Greenvale in the second semi final we went straight into a grand final. A fortnight later we came up against a very strong Strathmore side that made the most of their opportunities when it counted and ended up beat us by 10 points on the night. Full credit to our boys however, as they never stopped giving their all until the final siren sounded. In overall terms I still believe we had a successful season.

I would like to acknowledge the entire 44 players that took the ground at some stage throughout the year. Their attitude on both training nights and on game day was a credit to them.

Being my first year at the club I'd like to state that support from within the club was enormous. I'd like to especially thank Marita Tobin for her outstanding effort as my Team Manager and Rowan Norman for his super efforts as trainer of the team. I’d also like to say many thanks to Brad Bult, his Executive, and everyone else around the club whose efforts help to keep the place afloat. I would also like to thank Hannah Wilson, who got many things done for us throughout the year. I’d also like to acknowledge my captain James Burns, who led this young group with distinction, and my Assistant Coach Robbie Stafrace who put a lot of time and effort in for us throughout the year, and helped me out a hell of a lot along the way. Also, if there is anyone else that I may have missed, I’d like you to know that we appreciated the time you gave us throughout this season.

And finally to all my players. I'd like to thank you for providing me with a thoroughly enjoyable year. You are a great group who I'm sure will work hard over the summer and come back bigger, better and stronger in season 2016. Well done lads!

Regards,

John Wellington

 3.4 – Premier Division U18 – Peter Sahlberg

We started pre-season training with 16 players and ended up with a list of 42 players, which made fielding two teams a reality. By season’s end both sides had qualified for finals.

The Premier Division team started off well winning the first 7 games. The boys were training well and developing all the time. We then came up against the two top teams in the EDFL, Greenvale and Aberfeldie, and were unable to get a win. We had to make changes to our side and intensified our training and game plan. We rotated 35 players through the Premier Division team throughout the season, and most enjoyed the opportunity to extend their skills.

Our season was predominantly injury-free, with a few minor hiccups due to school commitments, school football and TAC obligations. Our Monday night training sessions were not well attended, so we were unable to fully consolidate with a consistent team.

We finished the season 3rd on the ladder, fronting up to West Coburg in the second semi-final which we won by 25 points. This wasn’t an inspiring effort, although we came away with the win. We then moved into the preliminary final against Greenvale knowing we could match up well against them. This was the best game we played as a team for the whole season because of our commitment, hardness at the ball, and belief in ourselves. A winning margin of 63 points stood us in good stead for the upcoming grand- final against Aberfeldie.

We were unable to get a win against Aberfeldie on the previous two occasions that we had played them during the year so the boys were eager to make amends. Unfortunately we did not take our chances in the first half of the game, requiring a better effort in the second half. The boys lifted and outscored Aberfeldie but unfortunately we went down by 25 points.

Overall, I was very pleased to see lots of individual improvements in attitude and development of the players which will beneficial for their playing futures. I was very fortunate to have the valued assistance of a small group of committed parents and helpers and my thanks go to them. Vince Di Martino, assistant coach and Garry Butterworth, team manager were there to help out each week.

Cheers,

Peter Sahlberg.

 3.5 – U18 Division 2 – Rob Davis

We started the year with uncertainty around fielding a full team of 22 players. In the first 2 to 3 rounds we were short of numbers and this made competing with some of the top teams in the league difficult.

Our first game was against Hadfield and, as we learned very quickly, we were off the pace. Hadfield’s team was their club’s first 18’s side and we were still putting our team together and working out the combinations of our playing group. Following this game we played Burnside and were again in a position where we had no bench for rotations or to rest players, and this resulted in another disappointing loss. As a result of these 2 games we needed to recruit players to the club that were not registered but had been at the club in previous years. Following a concerted effort of contacting past players and parents we were able to build our numbers and field a competitive side.

Over coming weeks we were able to identify players and positional structures that would make us competitive. Following our 2 early losses we were able to put together a string of victories which put us in a good position for the second half of the year and finals. The boys bonded together as a team, put some results on the board, and built confidence in their ability to compete against the best. There were some key games that we needed to secure a win to keep our finals aspirations alive and were fortunate enough to have 3 players rotated into our side from the 1st team.

Once our finals position was secured we were happy to assist the 1st team to progress in their competition, providing some key players when we could.

Our first final was Roxburgh Park, another club who we were competing against their first 18’s side. This game highlighted the quality required to advance in the competition and we were pleased to overcome this challenge and secure a well deserved win.

Our second final was against Hadfield. Hadfield were able to bring in a couple of players who had been playing in their open age senior side for the majority of the year. In the end this proved to be the difference and helped to get them over the line.

In summary I was satisfied in reaching a Preliminary Final with this playing group. The team achieved the maximum of their ability with the resources we had available at our disposal. The team bonded well as a unit and respected the coaching and support group around them. It was also satisfying for the club that Zac Antovski was awarded with the EDFL competition medal for the U18 2’s.

I look forward to representing the Keilor Football Club in 2016 and beyond.

Rob Davis
