A very successful Gift Day was held at Easter and the Churchwardens and Parochial Church Council are pleased to report that donations amounted to £775. This figure includes two generous donations, one of £150 and the other of £250 from a former parishioner whose parents’ grave is at Coltishall Churchyard. Some gifts will be enhanced by reclaimed tax from HMRC under the Gift Aid scheme and this is always welcomed if the donor pays tax. Grateful thanks are offered to everybody who kindly contributed to the Gift Day. All donations, whether large or small, are very much appreciated and the sum raised will be a great help towards the cost of grass cutting and tree maintenance. Further donations are very welcome and anybody wishing to contribute may leave their donation with Revd. Christopher Engelsen, Mr B Jordan or Mr D Francis. The areas to be looked after include the old and new churchyards and adjoining meadow at St. John the Baptist Church, Coltishall, the area around and adjacent to Holy Trinity Church, Great Hautbois and the churchyard at the ruined Church of St. Theobald at Great Hautbois. HORSTEAD MILL These photos of a model and artistic renditions of Horstead Mill, and others are on lounge and entrance walls in our villages. There must be more - the editors would like very much to photograph them all for posterity in an archive of local photographs soon to be displayed on the magazine website and possibly printed for display on specially made display boards in our community halls and rooms. If you have one or know of one hanging in a friends house or sad to say languishing in an attic please get in touch with any of our editors so we we can come along and photograph them. We will not remove any from frames or damage them in any way. It would be nice to know the artist and date they were painted for the records. My childhood memories recall there seemingly always to be be an artist on a stool with easel and watercolours most days during the summers months. When the Mill was working it was a place where so many villagers and visitors could enjoy the the activity, to swim and fish in the pool. Those of us who dared would briefly stand behind the artists and admire their work, I say dared as it seemed an invasion of privacy as if the painter was in their own little world. They would set up front and back, both sides of the river so there must be many more completed works all of which we would love to photograph and share with all our readers. So if you can help like, Margeret Riley, Grace Buck, Joan Bland, Gwendoline Golder, Joyce Piiggot and Arthur Wright [it is his magnificent model] please give us a call. Ed dp

ou've all heard about it, and seen the Ysymbols in film s and books.

Authors and film m akers love to use the mystery of m asonry to heighten the suspense or to increase the intrigue. But what is Freem asonry all about?

You may be surprised to find that over the years Freemasons have given m illions of pounds to charities, we just don't shout about it, and whilst we do have 'ceremonies', we do not 'sacrifice' anyone!

Freemasonry is not a religion but it is religious and open to all faiths. It's not for business networking, but for m aking friends, personal developm ent, and helping charities.

If you're over 21 years old, believe in a supreme being (like God), interested in a charitable organisation that's been around for over 300 years, and does something completely different, then freem asonry could be for you.

We are holding a concert at Wroxham and it is just one of the events Freem asons organise to raise funds for Masonic charities. Why not com e along, bring your partner and friends. We'll be there from 6.30pm and will be m ore than happy to answer your questions about Freemasonry. In the mean-tim e look up the Grand Lodge of , or the Provincial Grand Lodge of Norfolk on the internet. You'll see we're not that 'secret'! Feel free to em ail me on pm [email protected] if you have any questions that cannot wait!

I look forward to seeing you there. Paul Bridges
