Page 5 All change at the Civic Centre We recently said a sad farewell to Gerry, our caretaker at the Civic Centre for over 12 years. We wish him a long and happy retirement. Our current out of hours caretaker, Mick, will be taking over during the day. Unfortunately our admin assistant Jan also left us for pastures new and we wish her all the best for the future. This, of course, means we have had some new staff join us. Karen Shaddick is our admin assistant and we are currently recruiting for another evening weekend caretaker at the Civic Centre. We all look forward to working with them and welcome them to the team.

Sussex Police & Crime Commissioner Katy Bourne was re-elected (after her first term of office which started in November 2012) by the public in May 2016 to hold the Chief Constable of Sussex Police to account for the performance of the police force, effectively making the police answerable to the communities they serve. She is responsible for setting the strategic direction and priorities for Sussex Police through the Police & Crime Plan. This includes setting the police budget and local police precept – the amount residents pay for policing in their council tax. She also has a statutory duty to commission support services for victims of crime and to deliver community safety initiatives including restorative justice and crime reduction grants. MP’s News Time moves quickly in Politics and I have to say that so much has happened in the last few weeks that this has really proved to be true. We have seen the country voting to leave the EU, David Cameron’s resignation and the subsequent leadership challenge which we expected to last nine weeks leading to a new Prime Minister in Number 10 within days. I was delighted to receive a phone call from the Prime Minister, , during the reshuffle, offering me a Ministerial position as Economic Secretary to the Treasury in her new Government. I am honoured and humbled to have been asked to become Economic Secretary to the Treasury. I will do my very best to support our Prime Minister, Theresa May, and her Government and continue to work hard to represent everyone in Brighton Kemptown and Peacehaven. I was pleased to attend both the & Saltdean Lions Gala and the Peacehaven Community Summer Fair recently. It was great to see so many residents out in the sunshine enjoying the day. Well done to everyone who helped organise these fantastic events.

Kind regards, Simon Simon Kirby MP
