COMMENDATIONS. Commends Eddie Joseph Kennison III on being named to the 2017 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.
1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
2 To commend Eddie Joseph Kennison III on being named to the 2017 Louisiana Sports Hall
3 of Fame.
4 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame in Natchitoches, Louisiana, each year
5 collaborates with the Louisiana Sports Writers Association in selecting a limited number of
6 sports figures who embody the character, skill, and talents worthy of being named to the hall
7 of fame; and
8 WHEREAS, Eddie Kennison was born on January 20, 1973, and attended
9 Washington-Marion High School in Lake Charles, Louisiana, where he was a star on both
10 the football and track teams; and
11 WHEREAS, after graduation, he attended Louisiana State University where he
12 became a noted sprinter on the track team, earning six All-America selections, lead the
13 4x100-meter relay team to the 1994 National Collegiate Athletic Association Outdoor
14 Championship, and qualified for the championships in the 4x100, 4x200, 4x400 and the
15 200-meter relays; and
16 WHEREAS, Eddie Kennison also excelled on the gridiron at LSU as an outstanding
17 receiver and premier kickoff and punt returner, including a 100-yard punt return for a
18 touchdown against Mississippi State in 1994 and a 92-yard kickoff return for a touchdown

1 in LSU's win over Michigan State in the Independence Bowl in 1995; and
2 WHEREAS, upon graduating from college, he was a first-round National Football
3 League draft pick for the St. Louis Rams and during his first season, finished second in yards
4 and receptions for rookies and led the rookie wide receiver class; and
5 WHEREAS, in 1999, Eddie Kennison was traded to the New Orleans Saints for a
6 second-round draft pick and in 2000 he was traded to the Chicago Bears, where he finished
7 second on the team in receiving years and tied for the team lead in receptions; and
8 WHEREAS, he signed a two-year deal with the Denver Broncos in 2001, but retired
9 later that year, only to resurface from retirement to play for the Kansas City Chiefs from
10 2002 to 2006, and a second stint with the St. Louis Rams before finally retiring with the
11 Kansas City Chiefs on July 19, 2010; and
12 WHEREAS, the successful track and football career of Eddie Joseph Kennison III
13 has rightly earned him a place among the many greats in the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.
14 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
15 commend and congratulate Eddie Joseph Kennison III on being named to the 2017 Louisiana
16 Sports Hall of Fame Induction Class
17 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Eddie
18 Joseph Kennison III.
