  • Children Are Naturally Curious About Animals; Keeping That in Mind, We Will Focus Our Attention on Animals This Month
January 2015 Rosana Sapir, Marlene Marcos, Carmen Labra Dear Families, Happy New Year! Children are naturally curious about animals; keeping that in mind, we will focus our attention on animals this month. This is an appropriate theme to introduce to the children because they are fascinated by the zoo and the animals that live there. During this time the children will also discover the variety of animals most people keep as pets. We will explore learning the sounds, the body coverings and care for pets as well as their movements. The children will be introduced to new occupations: the zookeeper and the veterinarian. Objective: children will become familiar with names of many zoo animals and they will discover the kinds of animals most people keep as pets. By the end of our investigations most children will be able to group and/or sort animals into their various habitats or by a common attribute (jungle, farm, ocean or animals with fur, scales, feathers, two legs, four legs…). Concepts An animal kept for pleasure is a pet. Pets need food, water, exercise and loving care. Some pets need to be groomed. Barking, meowing, squeaking, and chirping are a few pet sounds. To move pets may swim, walk, fly, hop, run or crawl. Pigs, ponies, horses, sheep, goats and cows can be pets on a farm. Body covering on animals can be fur, feathers, scales or a shell. A veterinarian is an animal doctor. Breeders and trainers also work with pets. A zoo is a place where animals are kept. People go to the zoo to look al animals.

Smile was originally planned as the follow-up to the band's 1966 classic Pet Sounds, but the material was mostly abandoned due to creative mastermind Brian Wilson's fragile mental health at the time. Though no release date has been set, the official release of Smile will be sold as a two-CD set and as a deluxe box set including four CDs, two vinyl LPs, two vinyl singles and a 60-page hardbound book penned by Beach Boys historian Dominic Priore. The final track listing has not been announced, but disc one of the CD set and the first three sides of the vinyl edition will contain a close approximation of the Smile album, with the remainder collecting outtakes and alternate versions from the sessions. The Smile sessions have been widely bootlegged among fans for decades, but the proper track listing for the album has never been established, largely due to the fact that the record was never completed as intended. According to engineer Mark Linett, Brian Wilson's 2004 version of Smile has been used as the template for this project, though it could turn out a bit different depending on input from Wilson and the surviving members of the group.

  • Wouldn't It Be Nice
wouldn’t it be nice by lewis shiner hat if? It’s not just science fiction and fantasy that asks this w question, it’s all of fiction. What if a young student murdered his landlady to prove his moral superiority? What if a woman survived the Civil War and three marriages only to find true love too late? It’s also the question by which we transform ourselves. What if I quit my job and moved to the desert? What if I turned myself loose to create “a teenage symphony to God?” The Icarus who attempted that teenage symphony in 1966 is now 53. For Brian Wilson it’s been thirty years of struggle: with drugs and diet, with people who want to run his life for him, with the intensity of his own feelings. The good news is that Wilson’s life is finally his own again. He is newly married to a woman named Melinda, who is calm and sweet and loving with him. He has a new house in the safety of a gated community high above the city. And he is back in the public eye with two new albums and a movie on the Disney channel. The film is I Just Wasn’t Made For These Times, directed by producer-of-the- moment Don Was. The soundtrack is a kind of Best of Brian Wilson, live in the studio with crack session players like Jim Keltner, Benmont Tench, and Waddy Wachtel. This is not only a wonderful album in its own right, it represents a healing of other wounds.

  • Pet Sounds”—The Beach Boys (1966) Added to the National Registry: 2004 Essay by Tom Smucker (Guest Post)*
“Pet Sounds”—The Beach Boys (1966) Added to the National Registry: 2004 Essay by Tom Smucker (guest post)* Album cover Original label The Beach Boys Released in May of 1966, “Pet Sounds” was initially understood by some as a new pop music paradigm, for others as a rock betrayal, for a few as a source of personal solace. In the USA, it was also a financial disappointment, a potentially career collapsing abandonment of the Beach Boys surf, car, and summer songs. Across the Atlantic in the UK, the album received a crucially different debut. Keith Moon of The Who helped Bruce Johnston of the Beach Boys set up a publicized pre-release “Pet Sounds” enthusiastic listen in London for John Lennon and Paul McCartney. With that recognition established, the LP and the Beach Boys continued their overseas ascent in esteem and popularity while dropping out of favor, if not out of sight, in the United States. As had been his practice previously in the studio, Brian Wilson worked out the instrumental tracks with the cream of LA studio musicians, the so-called “Wrecking Crew,” while the rest of the group was on tour, returning to add their complex yet heartfelt vocal harmonies on the top. In “Pet Sounds,” these tracks were packed with found sounds, countermelodies, and an unpredictable variety of instrumentation that gave each cut a distinctive signature while still part of a coherent whole. Brian was composing using the modern mid-1960s recording studio as his instrument. It was this example that inspired George Martin and the Beatles to expand their exploration of the studio with their own sensibility for “Sgt.

PETER WERNICK. Born 1946 Transcript of OH 1489V This interview was recorded on December 20, 2007, for the Maria Rogers Oral History Program. The interviewer is Anne Dyni. The interview also is available in video format, filmed by Liz McCutcheon. The interview was transcribed by Dee Baron. NOTE: The interviewer’s questions and comments appear in parentheses. Added material appears in brackets. ABSTRACT: Banjo player Pete Wernick talks about his career as a musician, ranging from playing bluegrass in New York City during the 1960s to playing banjo with Earl Scruggs on the David Letterman Show in 2005, as well as the many professional successes he has had in between, most notably as a member of the bluegrass band Hot Rize, which played together for twelve years and has continued to play highly popular reunion shows. [A]. 00:00 (Today is December 20th, 2007. I’m interviewing Pete Wernick of 7930 Oxford Road in Niwot. Pete, when and where were you born?) New York City, February 25, 1946. (Do you have any brothers or sisters?) My one and only sister just passed away about a month ago. (Oh, I’m sorry.) She was my older sister. Her name was Sarah and she lived in Boston. (Was she a musician?) Not at all. No. She was a writer and collaborated on various books including medical books. (Were there any instruments in your family at all?) My dad always had an interest in music and from his childhood he played harmonica by ear, and that was the one instrument he would take out at gatherings and so on and played on a pretty rudimentary level.
