Completed in October, 2011, Namhan Gang Bicycle Path utilizes old railway tracks and a railway bridge of the Junang Line. It is a fantastic place for riding bicycles because it has beautiful landscape and a lot of things to see. Since it takes only 2 hours to leisurely ride around the area,

T The Namhan River Bicycle Path makes use of deserted railway tracks and a railway bridge, whistle stops, tunnels and Bukhan River Railway Bridge set in a fine view. Namhan River Bicycle Path has been built by utilizing railway tracks and a railway bridge that was phased out due to the Jung-ang Line that has been double-tracked, and by refitting deserted tunnels. This bicycle road spans 27km starting from Paldang Station through Neungnae Station, Bukhan River Railway Bridge, Yangsu Station, Yongdam Tunnel, Sinwon Station, Guksu Station, Gigok Tunnel, and Asin Station to Yanggeun Bridge. Of the entire section, 25.6km from to Asin Station of Yangpyeong-gun are old railway tracks, and the rest is a normal bicycle path. Desolate rail tracks have been removed to give way to ascon pavement. Concrete has been poured on those sections where train tracks had not been taken out. In addition, high-strength eco-friendly wood has been laid on Bukhan River Railway Bridge section. Red clay has been used along a portion of the trail near farmland. The width of the bicycle path is 4.5m which is wide enough for bicycles to pass each other and to let people walk. 637 trees have been planted along a 3km section to let riders experience the beautiful Bukhan River. Lights with built-in sensors were installed in the tunnel to prevent unnecessary electricity consumption. Bukhan River Bicycle Path is linked to the existing 63km section from the Hangju Bridge to the Paldang Bridge of the Han River, and to a 100km bicycle trail built as part of the 4 Major Rivers Restoration Project from Yanggeun-ri, Yangpyeong to Tandeumdae, . - Great bicycle riding course along the 8 Views of the Namhan River -

The landscape, with 400-year-old zelkova standing alone, attracts a lot of tourists. This place is particularly beautiful when it snows in the winter or set against the setting sun. What people don’t want to miss is the 7th Viewpoint, Semiwon, meaning a garden of water and flowers, near the bicycle path. Last but not least, the 8th Viewpoint is Gigok Tunnel, which is the longest among the 9 tunnels along Namhan River Bicycle Path. Some 200m from this 569m tunnel are train tracks that have the vestige of the Jungang Line. Nearby rest areas are good for riders to relax and catch their breath. - Small whistle stop and Oiljang with friendly atmosphere -

Riders will pass Sinwon Station, Guksu Station, and Asin Station (stations where trains of old Jungang Line stopped) to reach rural villages. Although the train stations have been transformed into clean and classy subway stations, the villages around them have not changed that much. Small villages, mountains full of greens and a meandering river along the path until Neungnae Station add to the romantic atmosphere of the landscape. Neungnae Station was established as a flag stop of the Jungang Line in 1956 and discontinued its service in 2008. Neungnae Station has been reborn as a museum composed of a Memory Hall where train schedules and fares are posted to bring back old memories of the waiting room, and of Happiness Hall where 40 to 50 year old photos of local residents are displayed. There is a traditional market place with a history of over 200- years. The market place opens on any of the dates that ends with 3, 8 with an interval of 5 days. The space under the railway tracks near Yangpyeong Station and roadsides serve as a market where wild edible greens harvested from Mt. Yongmoon and home- grown vegetables are famous. Also famous is Jipyeong Brewery, the oldest one in Korea. It’s interesting and enjoyable to watch the rice puffing machine that gives off a delicious smell and loud cannon like sound when it pops. In front of the rice puffing machine is a line of cans full of rice cake and grains. 2012. Spring 13 14 K-water Traditional Craft

Collecting Korean antique furniture was an inspiration, and served to help her reach a stage where she is able to produce simple and beautiful furniture and accessories. To make her practical and elegant furniture, she mainly uses cashew painting, gold and silver wrapping, hanji(traditional Korean paper handmade from mulberry trees), and cheese-cloth, as well as silk and linen fabric, on a one-off basis. - Making inroads into the world’s market with Korean motifs -

Through Mono Collection(her company), Chang grafts Korean aesthetics onto the lifestyle of modern people to offer chic, beautiful and practical items, and interior styling. She pursues a true source of pleasure derived from the harmonization of the human and the natural, Nature and civilization, and the old and the new. Peach Blossom Dream, derives its inspiration from the Late Joseon Period and Korean folk art, which are reborn as a colorful and diverse range of unique designs. Composed of bold colors, various and sensuous textures, and eye-catching patterns, Peach Blossom Dream is designed to more fully evoke the positive emotions inherent in everyday life. This can help lead contemporary people who are running against time in a tough world towards a path of rejuvenation and healing. Hapcheon Dam

From November of last year, K-water’s Hapcheon Dam started operating for the first time in the world a pollution-free clean electricity generation facility that utilizes the reservoir of the dam.

hotovoltaic power generation has now been designed species. Whereas photovoltaic generation on land wreaks to produce electricity through the installation of havoc on forests and green fields, the newly designed water P photovoltaic facilities on the surface of a lake or a facility makes environment-friendly power generation in the reservoir. Photovoltaic power generation on the water truest sense possible because it does not harm vegetation. produces 10% more electricity than that on land because it is K-water, which is a leader in green projects, has installed this easier to maintain a low temperature which in turn enhances photovoltaic facility in Hapcheon Dam. Bearing in mind the efficiency of a solar module. Photovoltaic power Renewable Portfolio Standards(RPS) to be implemented generation on the water not only causes less environmental from this year, K-water drives forward this photovoltaic damage, such as tree cutting and incurs no land purchase project as a new growth engine. expenditure, but also eases algal blooms by blocking the Sun RPS is a mandatory system under which 13 domestic electric and thus providing a better spawning environment for fish power corporations are required to produce a certain proportion of their gross generation from new renewable energies. As a result, over the course of next 4 years(2012 to 2014) Korea will witness the creation of a new market of 12 million MW of electricity produced by photovoltaic power generation. To do this, K-water chose photovoltaic power generation on the water rather than photovoltaic power generation on land since the later severely damages the environment.

- 1 The facility is safe even in the face 1 of a typhoon Hapcheon Dam - 2 Photovoltaic power generation on the water of Hapcheon Dam To test the feasibility of photovoltaic power generation in dams 3 and reservoirs nationwide, K-water spent some 700 million The persons who played a key role in installing the photovoltaic power generation facility on the water are Manager Ohk Kwang-seok, Assistant won to install the facility in Hapcheon Dam. It took 6 months Manager Kim Nak-hyeon, and Senior Clerk Shin Jong-ho of the Electricity Facilities Department. They say they feel rewarded in that their efforts were to complete the photovoltaic project that started in May, 2011. the driving force behind K-water’s success in obtaining core technology of photovoltaic electricity generation on the water. Power generation commenced in November of last year. The photovoltaic generator is composed of 414 modules, various generation components, and has a maximum, instantaneous power generation capacity of 100kW and is capable of producing a maximum of 144MWh a year. This is equivalent to the amount of electric power used to supply 30 households with 4 members per house. “The reason why Hapcheon Dam was chosen for installation is that the Dam is not in a water source protection area and the result of a feasibility test showed that it is fit for the installation of photovoltaics. It is true that Japan and the U.S installed and operated photovoltaic generation facilities in small and 2 shallow ponds. However, installation in a deep reservoir of multipurpose dam has never been attempted,” said Management&Operations Team Director Baek Hyeon-soon of Hapcheon Dam Office. He expected that with the Hapcheon Dam project, there will be a growing number of photovoltaic power generation projects on the surface of reservoirs in Korea. Installing photovoltaic facilities on the water takes more sophisticated technologies than on land. K-water Institute filed a patent for 5 technologies it developed over the course of the installation. From the first half of 2012, K-water plans to build commercial photovoltaic generation plants above the water in Hapcheon Dam, Yongdam Dam, etc. K-water also plans to construct photovoltaic power generation plants above the water with 1,800MW in 31 dams in stages until 2022. The amount of electricity generated from these plants is expected to power 560,000 homes, cutting carbon dioxide emissions by 1.6 million tons, replacing 3.95 million barrels of imported oil. 3 32 K-water

This is clearly shown in the establishment of the eco-friendly land utilization plan, the best green area ratio among industrial complexes, construction of the first large-scale artificial habitat for migratory birds and a waterfront industrial park that takes advantage of Sihwa Lake’s environment. In addition, to prevent air pollution, high-tech industries were allowed in to the exclusion of general manufacturing that causes pollution. 1 Sihwa MTV’s green area ratio stands at 28.8%, the highest among industrial complexes in Korea. The area subject to development was reduced from 10.472 to 9.762 in order to minimize the impact of development on the environment. Mud flat parks, eco-parks, cultural facilities and landscaping are planned in waterfront spaces of Sihwa to enhance people’s quality of living and to let them enjoy leisure activities in and near the water. A plan to make the water front a mud flat as part of efforts to restore eco-system has been established. A migratory bird habitat of 429,752m² will be created for the first time in Korea to give birds coming to Sihwa Lake comfort. Thanks to these efforts, the amount of air pollutants from Sihwa MTV development is expected to be a meager 2% Sihwa which will come from Sihwa Banwol Industrial Complex.
