    ORIGINAL PROF-2337 PATIENT SATISFACTION; OPD services in a Tertiary Care Hospital of Lahore Dr. Fatima Mukhtar, Dr. Aftab Anjum, Dr. Muhammad Aslam Bajwa, Shahzana Shahzad, Shahzeb Hamid, Zahra Masood, Ramsha Mustafa ABSTRACT… Introduction: Patient satisfaction is a relative phenomenon, which embodies the patients perceived need, his expectations from the health system, and experience of health care. Objective: To determine the level of patient satisfaction towards OPD services with reference to doctor-patient interaction, registration desk, waiting area, and overall health facilities. Study Design: Descriptive cross sectional study. Setting: Tertiary care hospital of Lahore. Study Period: April 2013. Material & Methods: A sample of 250 patients was selected by employing systematic random sampling technique. The patients were interviewed and data was collected using a pretested questionnaire. Data was analyzed using the statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) version 16.00. Data was presented in figures and tables. It was described using frequencies, percentages and mean. Results: Majority of the patients i.e 232 (94%) reported being satisfied with the doctor. A vast majority agreed that hospital was clean 233 (94%) and adequately ventilated 224 (90%). The hospital staff in the waiting area was found to be respectful 220 (89%) and fair 198 (80%) towards the patients. The patients had no difficulty locating the reception desk of the health facility 235 (95%). A large proportion of patients i.e.220 (89%) said they would re-visit the hospital. Conclusions: The patients were highly satisfied with their doctors and were ready to re-visit the hospital. It is recommended that further studies should be conducted to assess patient satisfaction in the secondary and primary care health facilities and efforts should be made to get regular feedback from the patients.

    J Ayub Med Coll Abbottabad 2006; 18(4) CASE REPORT RECURRENT EPISCLERITIS IN CHILDREN-LESS THAN 5 YEARS OF AGE Syed Ashfaq Ali Shah, Hassan Sajid Kazmi, Abdul Aziz Awan, Jaffar Khan Department of Ophthalmology, Ayub Medical College and teaching Hospital, Abbottabad. Background: Episcleritis , though common in adults, is a rare disease in children. Episcleritis is associated with systemic diseases in a third of cases in adults. Here we describe systemic diseases associated with recurrent episcleritis in children less than five years of age. Method: This Retrospective Observational case series study was conducted at the Department of Ophthalmology of Ayub Teaching Hospital, Abbottabad, from March 1995 till February, 2006. Six children diagnosed clinically with recurrent episcleritis were included in this study. Complete ophthalmologic as well as systemic evaluation was done in each case. Results: This study was conducted on 6 children with a diagnosis of recurrent episcleritis. There were four boys and two girls, with an age range of 35-52 months. Right eye was involved in three cases, left eye in two cases while one case had a bilateral disease. Recurrence occurred in the same eye in all cases, with one bilateral involvement. Four children (66%) had a history of upper respiratory tract infection in the recent past. No other systemic abnormality was detected in any case. Two cases had a history of contact with a pet animal. Conclusion: Recurrent episcleritis in young children is a benign condition. Upper respiratory tract infection is the most common systemic association. Pet animals may be a contributory factor. Keywords: Recurrent Episcleritis, Children, Age, Systemic Disease.

    J Ayub Med Coll Abbottabad 2014;26(4) CASE REPORT MANAGEMENT OF ECTOPIC VARIX WITH HISTOACRYL Adil Naseer Khan, Ismaa Ghazanfar Kiani, Muhammad Arshad*, Rania Hidayat, Khalid Said, Aamir Shehzad Department of Gastroenterology, Ayub Medical College, Abbottabad, *Azad Jamu Kashmir Medical College, Muzaffarabad, Pakistan Upper gastro-intestinal (GI) bleed is one of the most serious situations encountered in the emergency department. There is consensus regarding management of common causes of upper GI bleed but for rare causes no such consensus exists. We present a case of a 35 year old male who presented with 5–6 episodes of hematemesis associated with melena in 24 hours. On examination he was in hypotensive shock with no stigmata of chronic liver disease. Doppler studies showed portal vein thrombosis with cavernous transformation and varices in peripancreatic region and around duodenum. His upper GI endoscopy showed a large varix with ulceration in the duodenal bulb, indicating it as the source of bleeding. The varix was injected with 1cc of cyanoacrylate. The patient’s final diagnosis was non-cirrhotic portal hypertension secondary to portal vein thrombosis. At immediate and long term follow-up the patient had no complications. We conclude that cyanoacrylate injection effectively manages ectopic duodenal varices and can be used with a simple application technique.     Ancient Universities in India Ancient alanda University Nalanda is an ancient center of higher learning in Bihar, India from 427 to 1197. Nalanda was established in the 5th century AD in Bihar, India. Founded in 427 in northeastern India, not far from what is today the southern border of Nepal, it survived until 1197. It was devoted to Buddhist studies, but it also trained students in fine arts, medicine, mathematics, astronomy, politics and the art of war. The center had eight separate compounds, 10 temples, meditation halls, classrooms, lakes and parks. It had a nine-story library where monks meticulously copied books and documents so that individual scholars could have their own collections. It had dormitories for students, perhaps a first for an educational institution, housing 10,000 students in the university’s heyday and providing accommodations for 2,000 professors. Nalanda University attracted pupils and scholars from Korea, Japan, China, Tibet, Indonesia, Persia and Turkey. A half hour bus ride from Rajgir is Nalanda, the site of the world's first University. Although the site was a pilgrimage destination from the 1st Century A.D., it has a link with the Buddha as he often came here and two of his chief disciples, Sariputra and Moggallana, came from this area. The large stupa is known as Sariputra's Stupa, marking the spot not only where his relics are entombed, but where he was supposedly born. The site has a number of small monasteries where the monks lived and studied and many of them were rebuilt over the centuries. We were told that one of the cells belonged to Naropa, who was instrumental in bringing Buddism to Tibet, along with such Nalanda luminaries as Shantirakshita and Padmasambhava.

    1 GOVERNMENT OF 1[Khyber Pakhtunkhwa] ESTABLISHMENT & ADMINISTRATION DEPARTMENT (Establishment Wing) NOTIFICATION ST Dated 1 MARCH, 2008 NO.SOE-III(E&AD)2-1/2007, Dated 01-03--2008.---In pursuance of the powers granted under Section 26 of the 2[Khyber Pakhtunkhwa] Civil Servants Act, 1973 (3[Khyber Pakhtunkhwa] Act XVIII of 1973), the competent authority is pleased to make the following rules, namely: THE 4[Khyber Pakhtunkhwa] INITIAL APPOINTMENT TO CIVIL POSTS (RELAXATION OF UPPER AGE LIMIT RULES, 2008) PART — I GENERAL 1. (1) These rules may be called the Initial Appointment to Civil Posts (Relaxation of Upper Age Limit) Rules, 2008. (2) These shall come into force with immediate effect. 5[2. (1) Nothing in these rules shall apply to the appointment in BS-17 and the posts of Civil Judge-Cum-Judicial Magistrate / Illaqa Qazi, BS-18 to be filled through the competitive examination of the Public Service Commission, in which case two years optimum relaxation shall be allowed to: (a) Government servants with a minimum of 2 years continuous service; (b) Disabled persons; and (c) Candidates from backward areas.
