SECTION 133613 - PART 1 GENERAL 1.01 SECTION INCLUDES A. (5) Fixed observation tower with stairs. 1. Tower locations are indicated on drawings issued for reference. a. (1) Primary Tower is located near the middle of the practice area between the fields. b. (4) Secondary Towers are located on the east and west ends of the practice fields. 1.02 RELATED REQUIREMENTS A. Section 033000 - Cast-In-Place Concrete. B. Divisions 31, 32 and 33 for related site work and improvements. 1.03 REFERENCE STANDARDS A. AISC Manual, 8th Edition. B. AISC Code of Standard Practice for Steel and Bridges. C. STD Standard for Steel Building Structures. 1.04 SUBMITTALS A. Submit the following samples: 1. 12" x 12" sample of foot board 2. 12" sample of handrail. 3. 12” x 12” sample of expanded metal mesh 4. Color sample on metal surface B. Elevation indicating tread and landing lengths and heights, deck configuration, railings and size of framing members, as well as plan drawings of stair tower, and roof. Calculations are to be submitted with drawings. C. Listing of five (5) similar sized and complexity project experience , include names of projects, height, Owner and Owner phone numbers. D. Project schedule, including phasing with other trades and designation for all tasks, milestone dates for drawing submittal, fabrication time, key material delivery dates and designated dates of installation. E. Kentucky Department of Housing, Building and Construction, Division of Building Codes Enforcement (HBC) Submittal: The manufacturer, supplier and/or installer is responsible to provide and submit all required shop drawings necessary to obtain all approvals, permits and pay any fees required by HBC for the project.

1. All drawings to be marked "FOR CONSTRUCTION" and bear the required seal and signature of the professional engineer in responsible charge of the shop drawing preparation for the manufacturer licensed in Kentucky. 2. Shop drawing submittal to the Kentucky Department of Housing, Buildings and Construction is for review and approval prior to fabrication. 1.05 QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Manufacturer: Company specializing in band towers with a minimum of 10 years experience in manufacturing band towers. B. Engineer Qualifications: The observation tower shall be designed under the supervision of a registered professional engineer licensed in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. C. Provide documentation that the fabricator to be a member of the AISC Certification Program and certified STD at the time of bid. D. Source Limitations for Observation Towers: Obtain all components for the band tower, through one source from a single manufacturer for each product required. E. Special Inspections: Acquire third party inspections as required by the Commonwealth of Kentucky. 1.06 SYSTEM PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS A. Design Loads: 1. Dead Load: Weight of Building Materials 2. Live Load: 100 psf to structural member. a. 100 plf foot boards (individually) 3. Ultimate Design Wind Speed: 120 mph on projected vertical surface (based on local conditions) 1.07 WARRANTY A. Warranty: Product shall be guaranteed for one (1) year for defect in material and labor. Damage resulting from abnormal use, vandalism, or incorrect installation is not applicable. PART 2 PRODUCTS 2.01 MANUFACTURERS A. Subject to compliance with requirements, manufacturers offering the following products that may be incorporated into the work include: 1. Basis of Design: Design concept and the drawings indicate the size, profiles, dimensional requirements and aesthetics of the following: a. Porta-King Building Systems: 52' High Sports Tower and 40' High Sports Tower with features as described herein. 2. Products by other manufacturers (listed below) may be considered, provided deviations in dimensions and profiles are minor and do not change the design concept as judged by the Architect. 3. Approved Manufacturers: a. Porta-King Building Systems b. Educational Steel Products, LLC c. Or Equal 2.02 MATERIAL A. Structure: 1. Foundation: a. To be designed by manufacturer's engineer. b. Manufacturer to provide reinforcing steel and anchor embeds.

c. Foundations to be formed and poured, including reinforcing steel and anchor embeds, by Design Release 3 Contractor per Manufacturer's engineered design and instructions. d. Foundation is expected to have a large base and a smaller upper slab. e. Top of foundation to receive tower is to be held as tight to footprint of tower as possible and no closer to field than shown on Site Design drawings. f. Bottom of foundation may vary in size as needed for design. g. Top of foundation is to be flush with grade. 18" minimum difference in height is required between top of upper slab and top of foundation base. h. Block outs for conduits are to be provided. Manufacturer is to coordinate with previously released bid documents as needed. i. Coordinate base design with irrigation and other underground utility items. 2. Primary tower height: Highest viewing level to be 52' above concrete pad. 3. Secondary towers height: Highest viewing level to be 40' above concrete pad. 4. Steel tube and angle iron frame capable of supporting structural and other loads without failure. 5. Frame to be fully welded construction. 6. Frame to have welded anchor bolt assembly for connection to the concrete foundation. 7. Frame to be galvanized per ASTM-123 and primed with zinc rich primer per SSPC-Paint 15 and have minimum two coats direct-to-metal (DTM) urethane paint system. a. Custom color to be selected by Architect. 8. (8) column design is basis of design. 9. Towers are to have a foot-print of approximately 6'-6" x 10'-6" or less by no more than 16" in either direction. B. Handrail Systems: 1. Guardrails shall be of hot dipped galvanized steel and code compliant. 2. Handrails to be 1 1/2" square or round and hot dipped galvanized and code compliant. C. Stairs, Viewing Levels and Landings: 1. Primary tower (52'): Provide two cantilevered viewing platforms facing north and south at highest landing. 2. Secondary tower (40'): Provide (1) cantilevered viewing platform on the field side of the tower at highest landing. 3. Viewing levels shall be accessed by built-in stairs. Ladder or spiral stair access is not permitted. 4. Steps, landings and viewing levels to be constructed of hot-dipped galvanized diamond pattern grip-strut tread design. 5. Side railings to have hot-dipped galvanized metal in-fill panels. D. Side Panels: 1. Side panels to fit inside structural frame and have vandal-proof connections. 2. Side panels to be hot-dipped galvanized steel safety grid. Install side panels where a stair landing abuts the exterior face of the tower. 3. Side panels to form a complete security enclosure on all sides of the tower to a height 12'-0" above the concrete base. 4. Access door to be 8'-0" tall and constructed of hot-dipped galvanized expanded metal similar to side panel pattern.. Door frame to have padlock hasp. Padlock provided by Owner. E. Roof Panels: 1. Each tower is to receive gable roof over entire upper landing and cantilevered platforms. 2. Roof is to be standing seam type metal panel 3. Color to be selected by architect from Manufacturer's standard color chart.

PART 3 EXECUTION 3.01 INSTALLATION A. Installation: Shall be handled directly by the manufacturer or by a manufacturer certified installation subcontractor. B. Manufacturer or tower installer is to observe placement of rebar and anchor points in tower base formwork before concrete is poured to verify accuracy and design intent has been executed. C. Erect per plans, shop drawings and specifications. Tower locations are indicated on drawings issued for reference. D. Coordinate installation by others to include, but not limited to, electrical, data and AV conduit as well as light fixtures, speakers and security cameras prior to tower installation. E. Towers are to be prefabricated and delivered to site in as few loads as economically feasible. F. Off-loading of materials is the responsibility of the Manufacturer of Installer. G. Coordinate on-site storage of materials on-site prior to installation with the Construction Manager. Storage area is to be in proximity of installation. H. Manufacturer or installer is to coordinate delivery and installation with Construction Manager. 1. Critical dates: a. Reinforcing and embeds for conrete bases must be received on site no later than September 1, 2015. b. Installation of towers shall be coordinated with the Construction Manager, but shall occur between March and May of 2016. I. Installation is to occur before installation of field turf. 3.02 CLEANING A. Clean all surfaces according to manufacturer's recommendations. B. Placement of all tower related packaging and construction debris in on-site dumpsters is the responsibility of the installer. C. Trash and construction debris is to be disposed of on site in designated containers per LEED requirements. END OF SECTION
