NCAA TOURNAMENT DISTRICT TOURNAMENT Florida hopes to stop skid, calling now ‘crunch time’ By MARK LONG Associated Press

GAINESVILLE — Florida coach Mike White knew his team had flaws long before they started getting consistently exposed. He talked about them in October and November. He saw glimpses of them in December and January. Now, in early February, they have become the team’s identity. And there doesn’t appear to be a fix in sight. The Gators (15-8, 6-4 Southeastern Conference) have lost three consecutive games in Southeastern Conference play, falling out of The Associated Press’ college basketball poll for the second time this season and raising spec- ulation about whether they can make the NCAA Tournament. “It’s crunch time,” senior point guard Chris Chiozza said Monday. “The urgency is higher COURTESY than it’s been all Mike White (above) and the year.” Gators have lost three con- Florida hosts BRENT KUYKENDALL/Special to the Reporter secutive games in SEC play. But White doesn’t “want to make the stage bigger than it already is.” “I don’t want to make it worse,” White added. It could be worse, too. The Gators essentially stole wins at Missouri and Kentucky last month. Those two-point victo- ries helped mask Florida’s deficiencies. Three- point shooting and occasional defense also hid those blemishes. But everyone knows how to play Florida these days. PUTTING “The book is out on us,” White said.
