Jasper County REMC encourages you to tell your rural broadband story. Many legislators in , and across the country, have urban and metropolitan experiences. These folks have no idea of the internet challenges that rural homes, students, schools, medical facilities and businesses face on a daily basis. YOUR story will help rural electric cooperatives send a clear message to legislators that rural areas should have the same internet options as urban and metropolitan communities. Rural internet options will not happen without rural voices. https://www.indianaec.org/yourbroadbandstory/

Town & Country Construction, Inc. is recognized at 2018 APAI Annual Conference & Awards Luncheon

INDIANA- Town & Country Construction, Inc. has been recognized by the Asphalt Pavement Association of Indiana (APAI) for superior asphalt pavement construction at the APAI’s Annual Conference & Trade Show, held recently at the Marriott East Hotel in Indianapolis, Indiana. Town & Country won its award for work done at the North Judson High School Tennis Courts.

Members of Town & Country Construction, Inc. accepted the award in the Sports & Recreational Surfaces category. This was one of eight categories in which APAI recognized superior asphalt pavement construction. Each project submitted by paving contractors was visited and rated by a licensed professional engineer using several criteria, including: workmanship, i.e.:

• Uniformity of texture • Smoothness • Matching existing asphalt around the new surface • Drainage • Construction of joints • Degree of difficulty • Use of green technologies

After the engineer’s review of each site, an APAI Quality Review Panel analyzed recommendations for final award selections. “APAI is pleased to recognize Town & Country Construction, Inc. for outstanding work in the asphalt paving industry performed this year at North Judson High School,” said Kirsten Pauley, APAI Executive Director.

The Asphalt Pavement Association of Indiana (APAI) is a member driven, not for profit trade association formed in 1959 to serve the interests of taxpayers, public agencies and commercial interests throughout Indiana. Jasper County Airport is extremely excited to offer a high school aviation operations course that will be taught at the airport starting with this coming 2019-20 school year. The operations course will cover aviation history, regulations, industry stakeholders, and will serve as a prerequisite to flight, maintenance, and drone courses currently in planning/development (targeted for 2020-21). The operations course will be open to high school juniors and seniors in good standing with good attendance and a “C” grade point average or better. Students will earn high school credit and may be able to potentially earn college credit (dual credit currently being negotiated) all with no out of pocket expense for students or their parents. Rensselaer Central High School has agreed to offer the course to interested students. KV High is interested but will likely target 2020 school year for program consideration. Other school corporations have also expressed interest including North Newton, South Newton, West Central, North White, and Tri-County schools. Additional information will be sent out shortly. The airport is planning on having several Q&A sessions at local schools as well as at the airport. Students and parents potentially interested in learning more about the program are encouraged to contact the airport in addition to their high school counselor. Those interested in aviation should also attend the airport’s annual Aviation Career Day and Open House scheduled for May 10, 2019. More information to come about this great event.
