Quick Sticks Hockey Competition The SSFT year 5 and 6 Quick Sticks Hockey Competition was held at The Barclay school in April and 3 Partner Schools were in attendance, with 20 Boys and Girls competing. The teams had the opportunity to play longer games on the Multi use Games Area (MUGA) at Barclay school which was a great venue for these pupils to experience. The teams taking part were from Longmeadow, Bedwell and Knebworth schools. Matches were officiated by SSFT’s Tom and Kieran, and the event was organised by Donna, supported by Julia, Steve and Sally. The overall winners were from Bedwell School who narrowly won on Winners: Bedwell School, congratulated by goal difference and went on to represent Stevenage at the Longmeadow and Knebworth teams. Key Steps Gymnastics Competition The SSFT KS1 and KS2 Key Steps Gymnastics Competitions were held at The in May. The SSFT team of Judges were very impressed with the standard and those new to the event took part with great enthusiasm. It was great to see some of Winners: our Infant Schools also taking part. The event was organised by Donna, supported by Julia, Karen, Sam and SSFT Apprentices. The overall winning School was Moss Bury and went on to represent Stevenage at the Herts School games in June.

Nine Teams from eight schools competed in the SSFT Mini Red Tennis Competition hosted at Barnwell School. Players showed great skill and effort in their matches and the standard was fantastic this year. Stevenage Sporting Futures Primary Netball Leagues for small and large schools, run from October to April. Staff are offered training sessions on umpiring and skills at the beginning of the term. Fixture dates are sent out and teams then organise their matches with each school. Scores are emailed and sent into the SSFT office and points are awarded accordingly. The Results of each league were announced and medals and certificates presented at the Primary Netball Festival at the end of April. Congratulations to all participating schools and medal winners. SSFT Primary Netball Festival The SSFT Netball Festival is a celebration of Primary Netball and for teams to show off all the skills learnt throughout the year. This annual competition is hosted at The John Henry Newman School and 2014 saw 21 teams competing in the Large Schools and Small Schools competitions. This year, 185 Year 5 and 6 Girls played full England Netball 7-a-side rules. Matches and teams were officiated and coached by Primary staff, SSFT staff and Apprentices, and were fantastically supported by The John Henry Newman Netball Leaders. These girls and their PE teacher Miss Drackford had been working hard to learn their netball coaching skills throughout the year, which culminated with them ably assisting in the running of the festival. They were on hand for warm ups, drills, umpiring and boosting team spirit throughout. They were praised by the Primary schools and are a credit to The John Henry Newman School.

Inclusion The VI (Visually Impaired) County day was hosted at Barnwell Community Leisure Centre in May. This was organised and led by the VI Advisory Team, supported by Project Ability and co-ordinated by Stevenage Sporting Futures. The activities were led by National Governing Bodies in Goal Ball, Tennis, Football and Cricket. Barnwell Sports Leaders were in attendance to support the children in all of these sports, with help and guidance from staff and parents.

Stevenage Rules the Waves On the 26th June 2014, pupils from The Valley, Lonsdale, Lodge Farm and Peartree Juniors schools went to the University of Hertfordshire to take part in the Hertfordshire Sainsbury’s School Games Disability Swimming Gala. Stevenage ruled the waves throughout the competition, picking up at least 10 gold’s, 8 silvers and 6 bronze medals. All the pupils had a great day out and all came home delighted with their achievements. This term the Stevenage School Games (SSG) Secondary School sports were: Super Sixes Golf, hosted at Chesfield Downs Golf Club, Under 13 Girls Tag Rugby, hosted at The Nobel School and Volleyball hosted at JHN. Under 13 Girls Tag Rugby The Thomas Alleyne Academy and The Nobel School took part in the Stevenage School Games Tag Rugby Tournament hosted at Nobel. Nobel were able to enter 2 teams, introducing new Year 7 and 8 Students who have never played competitive matches before. Nobel girls B team got off to a great start beating

TAS 6 - 3, followed by a very competitive Nobel A vs Nobel B match, before the TAS vs Nobel A final. A fantastically competitive game where the Nobel girls clawed back from a 3-1 deficit to a Louise Sollis match winning try to win 6-5. Everyone represented their schools fantastically well and well done to the Nobel School’s team who won the tournament. There were a great number of girls involved and there was a real selection headache for Nobel staff to choose a team from so many great players for the Herts School Games.

Super Sixes Golf Competition On Monday 9th June The Nobel and Barclay schools took part in the Super Sixes Golf competition hosted at Chesfield Downs Golf Club. Teams of six students in KS3 played the nine hole par three course and all six scores were added together with the lowest total score winning. Nobel narrowly lost out to The Barclay school with scores of 221 - 209. There was an individual gold medal for Daniel Jordan from Nobel who shot a round of 26 to win the lowest score award of the day. Holly, a year 8 student from The Nobel School, was the England Mascot for the 5th Investec Test Match against India, which took place at the Kia Oval. Dominic Chatfield, Cricket Development Officer for North Hertfordshire said “This has been a fantastic opportunity to provide Holly with the chance of a lifetime which will hopefully inspire her to stay involved in cricket for many years. It is a great success story of how sport and cricket

Primary Athletics

The sun was beating down on the 22 schools that attended this year's Athletics Festival at Ridlins Track this summer. Schools were entered in either the Small or Large Schools competitions and in 2 age group categories, Year 4 and Mixed Year 5 and 6. There were 74 medal places in the end, which 19 schools took a share of, but all children enjoyed competing across a range of events, including Javelin, Cricket Ball Throw, Long Jump, High Jump, 100m, 600m and Relays. Even the teachers and apprentices took to the track in a 4x100m relay! Almond Hill School were presented with the Grand Prix Award which was to signify the school that achieved the most success and highest points tally throughout the day. CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE THAT TOOK PART!

SSFT On Tour

The SSFT have delivered Multi-sports ‘On Tour Activities’ to 24 of our Partner schools, involving over 4900 pupils this year. All Year groups have been offered this delivery during the year, and many schools have used the results as part of their Intra-school Level 1 Competition. KS1 and KS2 results have also been collated by SSFT and each year group participating have been entered into a Level 2 Inter-school Competition. All the children were challenged in 5 different ball skills which are linked to some of the sports in the Herts School Games. They have had ‘Tasters’ for Tri- Golf, Quick Sticks Hockey, Netball and Tennis. The Go Launchers have also been used for developing hand/eye co-ordination, useful for many sports, and the winning schools have been presented with their own Go Launcher, bean bags and framed certificate.

There was Kwik Cricket, Primary and Secondary Tag Rugby, Quick Sticks Hockey, Tri Golf, Super Sixes Golf, Key Steps Gymnastics, Mini Red Tennis, Speed Stacking, High 5 Netball, and a Disability Swimming Gala. Stevenage also had the great honour of our Camps Hill Apprentice, Sam Edgar, compering the Opening Ceremony and two pupils from Ashtree School bravely went on stage to deliver the Athletes Oath.
