Clusters of barren islets and rocky peaks are found all around the island. Kasos has an ancient history. It has been a part of the historical fortunes of its neighbors, Crete and Karpathos, and has often been subject to pirate invasions. During the years of the Greek revolution the inhabitants of Kasos numbered 12.000. It is an island boasting a fine nauti- cal tradition. The sea, the boats and seaman are all part of the life and especially the history of this place. Kasos began its life in this way as long ago as Minoan Period and continued in this way through the Archaic Period, which Homer describes, and through the period of revolution in 1821 up until the years of boat making and later the professional sailors. However you approach Kasos, be it by airplane or by ship, the island gives the impression of being wild and inhospita- ble. It is a steep, rocky, grey island, which emerges from the sea. However, this first impression of the mountains of Kasos as wild, subsides when the first houses come into sight. Then Kasos slowly becomes a friendly, warm, hospitable place. In this friendly place the five villages of the island can be found. These being: Fri, the harbour; Agia Marina, the biggest vil- lage spread out at the top of the hill with a great view of the sunset; Arvanitohori, at the base of the mountains; Poli, the oldest village built around the hill with the castle ruins and Panagia, above the hold harbour of Emborio. It offers a va- riety of services (all types of accommodation, restaurants, taverns, bars, beach bars). The island has its own airport for domestic flights and it is very close to the international airports of Mykonos and Santorini, and at the same time, it has almost daily connections by ferry and speedboat with the ports of Athens. It is an excellent destination, suit- able for families, activity fans, couples, groups, youth etc. REGION OF SOUTH AEGEAN PAROS See Simplicity and beauty shine brightly on this beautiful is- land. Looking around at the hills and villages, we feel as if a great modern artist outlined them, with slopes and in- clines illustrating the poetic design. Paros radiates the light of the sun and reflects the beauty of the deep blue sea.

Listen The wind, the creative conductor and postman of sound, on land and at sea, carries the music from the hills to the valleys, from the reeds in the wetlands to the narrow cob- blestone streets of the villages. Every beach has its own unique sound and music.

Smell A festival of fragrances is put on by the bushes, sage, oregano, rosemary, laurel, thyme, chamo- mile, reeds and the lilies of the sea... the seaweed on the beaches, with a strong aroma of sea iodine. Delicious aromas abound: freshly baked bread, chickpeas in the oven, octopus on the grill, freshly pressed wine...

Taste Grab a table and savor the food of Paros at one of the many family taverns and restaurants. Sip an ouzo or sou- ma (local spirit) with seafood served by the sea. Enjoy both mild and intense flavours every day and night on Paros. Tickle your palate.

Appreciate Relax and appreciate the caresses of the sun, wind, sea and sand. Touch and feel the energy of the island.

REGION OF SOUTH AEGEAN SYMI THE JEWEL OF THE AEGEAN Symi is an island with great history. According to mythology the island was named Metapontida or Aigli from the homonym Nymph, which gave birth there, to 3 Graces. An- other version is that Symis’ name is given from the princess of Rhodes that Glaukus eloped there, because the King and father didn’t want to approve their wedding. Glaukus, who is considered as the first in- habitant of Symi, was a keen swimmer and naval architect, abilities and skills that taught to the inhabitants of the is- land. Another myth, according to Diodorus Siculus says that the first that settled at Symi was Chthonius, the son of Pose- idon and Symi, when exiled from Dotio of settled on the island, and gave the name of his mother. On the island there are 5 villages, Chora, Emporios, Mara- thounda, Pedi and Panormitis. The capital is Chora, which includes two settlements, Gia- los and Chorio or Ano Symi. The oldest residential nucleus is the Village. It was settled around the castle, mostly for defensive reasons. It is built on hills. Joins Gialos with the “Kali Strata”, a road consisting of 500 stone steps. He was once the shopping street of Symi and will impress you with its mansions built along it. When eliminated the fear of the pirates, the village expanded towards the sea cre- ating a new settlement, Yialos, which is the safe harbor. In Gialos were the residences of the captains and traders of Symi. Today it is an administrative and tourist center and attracts almost all the services and banks on the island. -The town has been declared a preserved traditional set- tlement with main features the colors on the walls, the win- dows, the elaborate pediments and pebbled courtyards. -The second port of Symi is Emporios. Located on the west side of the island and has become a developing tourist resort. The settlement has characterized traditional and has a nice beach. Hermoupolis still resembles an open-air museum, a live monument of neoclassical architecture with relics and cultural treasures worth discovering. From the medieval city of Ano Syros, the ancient monuments of the Early Cycladic period in Kastri, the municipality of Syros-Hermoupolis, the Apollon Theater resembling Scala di Milano, the Orthodox and Catholic coexistence as well as the various influences from Asia Minor and all the way to the machine center in Neorion operating since 1861, Syros is a unique place of everlasting historical tradition and culture. The exclusive koroneiki variety trees, well known for the production of†outstanding quality†and taste ol- ive oil, are planted gracefully, avoid- ing closeness to each other. The olive grove is cultivated and used by the family, em- ploying only natural processes. The outcome is the limited production of†top quality†extra virgin olive oil. Our Product Single variety of extra virgin olive oil from100% Koroneiki variety olives We are constantly monitoring the product from the first day of its birth! By providing it with the necessary care, we help the tree in binding strong and healthy fruit while at the same time following all the appropriate ìgoodî practices. Olives are collected, exclusively by hand, while still unripe and green. During the same day, in order to ensure than nothing but their ìflowerî makes it to the bottle, they are sorted and then†crushed in an environment of no more than 26∞C. Indicative of this, is the fact that out of 12 kilo- grams of olives, only one kilogram of alpha pi extra virgin oil is produced. Following the harvest and the pressing, alpha pi is stored in special vats for a short period of time until bottling.†Imme- diate processing and delicate handling, ensure that the final product never loses its freshness or any of its olive oil aromas. From tree to bottle, we strive to meet only the highest crite- ria, as to preserve the quality and the unique characteristics of the alpha pi extra virgin olive oil. Growing in Koza- ni, North Greece, and giving its name to the land where it comes from, the Krokos village. A unique flower with a beautiful story to tell. Krokos blossoms only once a year, every October, for barely two weeks, creating a purple magic carpet as far as the eye can see. The flowers are harvested daily, right after the morning dew has evaporated, and saffron anti- oxidants are at their peak. After all the flowers have been collected, the fields look empty, but by dawn, the Krokos blooms once again, blanketing the fields in beautiful pur- ple flowers. Petals are separated by hand from the saffron stigmas and stamens, immediately after being picked, followed by stigmas’ drying process, ensuring that the saffron is at its highest potency. A hundred and fifty thousand blooms hand-picked by the villagers during the harvest, yield only one kilo of Krokos stigmas. A painstaking process, making saffron more valu- able than gold itself. THE CO-OPERATIVE In 1971 the greek saffron(Krokos Kozanis) growers formed the Cooperative de Safran; since then, the cooperative has had the exclusive responsibility of harvesting, sorting, processing, packaging and trading the whole Krokos (saf- fron) production. As of 1998, Greek Red Saffron (Krokos Kozanis) has en- tered the “Register of protected designations of origin” (PDO). We would like to welcome you to the world of ManaGi.
