Finished my Trendsetter Transitions Shawl

We have a new yarn and pattern book from our friends at CEY it’s called Arietta a Merino/ blend in DK weight. It has a lovely hand and the colors are all slightly heathery because the Yak fiber is darker than the Merino and takes the dyes differently. Classes for September 2016 at Babetta’s 916-965-6043 In our project classes you can learn to knit anything from scarves to socks to felted purses to lace shawls to hats to sweaters. Pick your project and join in the fun. Our knitters inspire each other to try new things by sharing ideas and showing off their latest creation. Sign up for one of our classes and you will receive a coupon for 10% off. Pre-registration is required as class sizes are limited. Please choose your dates carefully. Because of scheduling conflicts and complications, make-up classes will only be allowed under special circumstances and individual consideration.

Charity Knitting Group How would you like to do some charity knitting/crocheting with a lovely group of people? “The Purls of Fair Oaks” meets the second Thursday every month from 10am to noon here at Babetta’s. This wonderful group of knitters makes newborn hats for local hospitals as well as other local charity groups. If you’d like to come join the group there’s always room for more. This month’s date is Sept. 8. If you’d like to drop off any knitted or crocheted donation items you can do that at any time and I will pass them on.

Rylie Raspberry Shawl

Materials: 1 skein Hikoo Rylie, 1 ball Athena (or other ladder yarn), size 8 32” circular, stitch markers

This shawl begins with a garter stitch tab. Cast on 3 sts, k 6 rows. You should have 3 ridges at this point. At the end of the last row turn your work clockwise so you can pick up 3 sts, 1 in each ridge. Turn your work clockwise again and pick up 3 sts, 1 in each of your cast on sts. You should now have 9 sts on your needle. Row 1:(rs) k4, yo, pm, k1, pm, yo, k4 pm=place marker Row 2 and all even rows: (ws)knit sm=slip marker Row 3: k4, yo, k1, yo, sm, k1, sm, yo, k1, yo, k4 yo=yarn over The next 2 rows establish the pattern for the rest of the shawl k=knit Row 5: k4, yo, k to m, yo, sm, k1, sm, yo, k to last 4 sts, yo, k4 p=purl Row 6: knit rs=right side Repeat rows 5 & 6- 16 more times ws=wrong side Athena rows: using Athena work 2 pattern rows I carried the Athena up the side of the shawl wrapping the yarn I was going to use around the other before starting the next right side row. Marerials: 1 skein Noro Transitions, size 9 16” circulars & dpns, a stitch marker Cast on 72 sts, pm, join in the round being careful not to twist Round 1: (K2, P1) repeat around, work this round for 8” Begin decrease: Round 1: (work in pattern for 7 sts, k2tog), repeat around Round 2: k the knits and p the purls Round 3: (k knits & p purls for 6 sts, k2tog), repeat around Round 4: k the knits and p the purls Round 5: (k knit & p purls for 5 sts, k2tog), repeat around Round 6: knit the knit and p the purls Round 7: (k knit & p purls for 4 sts, k2tog), repeat around Round 8: k the knit and p the purls Round 9: (k knit & p purls for 3 sts, k2tog), repeat around Round 10: (k3, k2tog), repeat around Round 11: (k2, k2tog), repeat around Round 12: k1, k2tog), repeat around Round 13: k2tog, repeat around Cut yarn leaving enough tail to weave through remaining stitches.
