It is remarkable for the fact that it featured the final cavalry charge of the last English king to die in battle. This event led to the end of over three hundred years of Plantagenet rule, and the beginning of the Tudor era. Despite being a Society with a research focus firmly on events of the past, we are in no way opposed to technological progress. It was indeed more recent advances in genetics and DNA fingerprinting which allowed King Richard himself to be identified once his remains were located beneath the Social Services car park in Leicester in 2012. However, we are concerned that something as historically and culturally important as the battlefield, which has a direct relevance to the king now buried in Leicester Cathedral, will be adversely impacted by this development. We appreciate the need to test this new technology but by its nature, and bearing in mind the speed of future technological advances, it is likely to become quickly obsolete, whereas the damage done to the battlefield will be irreparable. We are therefore concerned that the battlefield will be lost for a project which may be important in the short term, but is unlikely to have a significant lasting value across centuries to come. -

This was supposedly in preparation for Edward's forthcoming coronation as king. However, before the young king could be crowned, he and his brother were declared illegitimate. Boy in the Tower uncle, Richard, ascended to the throne. It is unclear what happened to the boys after the last recorded sighting of them in Boy in the Tower tower. It is generally assumed that they were murdered; a common hypothesis is that they were killed by Richard in an attempt to secure his hold on the throne. Their deaths may have occurred sometime inbut apart from their disappearance, the only evidence is circumstantial. As a result, several other hypotheses about their fates have been proposed, including the suggestion that they were murdered by Henry Stafford, 2nd Duke of Buckingham or Henry VIIamong others. Boy in the Tower has also been suggested that one or both princes may have escaped assassination. From until his capture inPerkin Warbeck claimed to be Richard, Duke of York, having supposedly escaped to Flanders. -

Court bishops played an important role as royal councillors in matters concerning both church and commonwealth. 1 Royal chaplaincies were sought after, both as important steps on the road of prefer- ment and as positions from which to influence religious policy.2 Printed court sermons were a prominent literary genre, providing not least an important forum for debate about the nature and character of the English Reformation. -

The Latitudinarian Influence on Early English Liberalism Amanda Oh Professor Wellman HIST 4300: Junior Seminar 30 April 2018 Part I: Introduction The end of the seventeenth century in England saw the flowering of liberal ideals that turned on new beliefs about the individual, government, and religion. At that time the relationship between these cornerstones of society fundamentally shifted. The result was the preeminence of the individual over government and religion, whereas most of Western history since antiquity had seen the manipulation of the individual by the latter two institutions. Liberalism built on the idea that both religion and government were tied to the individual. Respect for the individual entailed respect for religious diversity and governing authority came from the assent of the individual. -

Kicking off with a double bill on Saturday 18th November at 9pm on the UKTV Drama Channel, The White Princess is the follow-up to the STARZ/BBC’s 2013 Golden Globe and Emmy award- nominated The White Queen. Made by Company Pictures and Playground, the drama filmed in purpose- built sets at The Bottle Yard Studios and across Bristol in 2016. Bristol Film Office provided unit bases for filming at locations across the city, facilitating location liaison and organising holding areas at City Hall for around 100 cast extras during a large-scale shoot at Bristol Cathedral. Burnet was vital to the development of the settlement of church and state following the ascension of William and Mary to the throne of England, helping form the modern liberal nationalism that we association with modernity. He is often seen as writing one of the first modern histories, one that had perspective, but which attempted to be evidence and source-based. -

The history in it is not very good. Shakespeare compresses events at will. The idea of who the protagonist and antago- Ian Gallanar. Instead, what makes this play great are Shakespeare’s craftsmanship and innovation. Richard, Duke of Gloucester is one of the greatest anti-heroes in the theater. Shakespeare prac- tically invents for the stage the notion that our main fi gure can be villainous and yet, somehow, likable. Why? Because he’s entertaining, he’s funny, he’s wicked, and he speaks to us directly. The anti-hero is a creation that has stood the test of time. My favorite period of Shake- speare in performance is the era in which troupes of actors toured the California gold rush towns. Their productions were deeply important to these guys in the middle of nowhere trying to strike it rich. -

NEWS: for immediate release THE SPANISH PRINCESS PREMIERES 5 MAY FOLLOWING BRISTOL SHOOT Starring Charlotte Hope, Stephanie Levi-John, Ruairi O’Connor, Laura Carmichael BRISTOL, 1st May 2019: Starz Limited Series The Spanish Princess is set to premiere this Sunday 5 May, after filming at The Bottle Yard Studios and in Bristol last year. The lavish drama, produced by Playground and All3 Media’s New Pictures, marks the follow up to STARZ Golden Globe and Emmy-nominated The White Queen and acclaimed series The White Princess (also made at The Bottle Yard). It filmed at The Bottle Yard for four months from June - October 2018. A full-scale, interconnected replica of Tudor-era Westminster Palace was built in 30,000 sq.ft. of space in The Bottle Yard’s Export Warehouse and Tank House 1. Production offices were also used on site as well as build space, stores and costume areas. Filming also took place in Spain and a number of historic West of England locations, including and Bristol's Ashton Court Estate, assisted by Bristol Film Nadia Parkes, Charlotte Hope, Stephanie Levi-John, Harriet Office, and Wells and Gloucester Walter, Laura Carmichael, The Spanish Princess (credit: STARZ) Cathedrals.
