Mandatory Safety Requirements: Sportswear

Throughout their time at Glenalmond, your child will take part in one or all of the following sports; rugby, hockey and lacrosse. Mouthguards Following the advice of the Scottish Rugby Union, English Lacrosse and the Scottish Hockey Association it is compulsory that all pupils participating in these sports should be fitted with a custom mouthguard. The company that we use for this is OPRO. https://www.opro.com/

OPRO will visit the school to give everyone the opportunity to have a dentally fitted mouth-guard at a reasonable cost. OPRO now visits a substantial number of schools, and provides the following service:

 A qualified dentist to take the impression;  A named mouth-guard usually delivered within a week of fitting school name in mouth-guard  A prompt replacement in case of loss – OPRO keep the model;  A comprehensive aftercare service;  A full dental accident warranty for 12 months; Anti-microbial mouth-guards and cases;  D30 technology which allows the mouth-guard to be up to 50% thinner and lighter without compromising the protection offered.

In order to take advantage of this service all you need do is choose the mouth-guard design you require from the OPRO website www.opro.com

Place the order either over the internet, by phone, or post to OPRO.

Send a cheque or credit card details with your order form to OPRO, or pay online.

Please Note: This item cannot be charged directly to your College bill.

In all cases please deal directly with OPRO and NOT the College. Mouth-guard fittings will take place at Glenalmond College on the first day of the Michaelmas term.

It will not be possible to have a fitting without an order being placed beforehand. We therefore urge you to contact OPRO as soon as possible. If your child already has a mouth-guard, please check if it fits. Your child’s growth can prejudice the fitting and effectiveness of a mouth-guard.

Should pupils forget mouth-guards, temporary OPRO boil and bite versions are available from the PE Department or in first aid bags for away matches, and cost £1.00. However, pupils who do not have access to a mouth-guard on a particular session may exercise their right not to play without this protective equipment. Eyewear Protective eyewear is compulsory for Lacrosse.

They can be purchased from www.hattersleysonline.co.uk and the code Glen_2020 enables a 15% discount off all products when used at checkout. Models recommended are Under Armour Futures goggles or for those girls who wear glasses, the Bangerz goggles

Other Sports Equipment/Safety Measures  Rugby: Studs/blades must confirm to World Rugby regulations  Hockey and Lacrosse: Girls require a hockey and lacrosse stick for the Michaelmas Term, a lacrosse stick in the Lent Term and a tennis racket for the Trinity Term. For safety reasons, goggles are also to be worn when playing lacrosse.  Boys require a hockey stick for the Michaelmas Term (introduction to hockey in PE) and the Lent Term.  Squash: can be played in all three terms by boys and girls out with games. Safety glasses are available and strongly recommended for use by all players. Glenalmond supplies cricket for pupils in the kit bag, although keen cricketers are encouraged to purchase their own.
