14th November Phill Taylor ran at the final race in the York 5k Series last Thursday and fin- ished eleventh in 16:58, but was the overall winner of the series, after a string of impressive results. Josh Taylor was 14th in 17:28 and Mollie Holehouse was 53rd in 21:27.

16th November Junior member Alfie Scruton was one of the stars of the show at the weekly Sewerby Parkrun. He finished in a hugely impressive fifth place, clocking 20:19, which made him the Bridlington club's second finisher. Only Nick Jordan was faster, as he took third spot in 19:47, on a morning, when none of the Bri- dlington runners managed a personal best on their home course. Mollie Holehouse was 3rd Female finisher in a time of 23:01

It was a different story at Dalby Forest, where BRR members Martin Hutchinson and April-Marie Exley managed to get into the top 10 and set new PBs. Hutchinson was seventh in 20:34 and Exley was ninth, and first female, in 20:52. Liz Ste- venson completed the 5km in 26:06, taking 57th place. Club Discounts 17th November Start Fitness The Constable Handicap has been a fixture in Bridlington Road Runners calendar for Sportsshoes.com more than 30 years, and gives members of all abilities the chance to cross the finish line Run Driffield first. As a staggered handicap race, all runners are Cheers – Andy Godfrey given a target time based on previous form, and the slowest runner sets off first. The ath- letes set off at intervals, with the fastest wait- ing until last, and in theory, everybody should reach the finish line at the same time, but in practice, those who perform better than their average lead the field home. Wood took full advantage of the race format, overtaking Tom Fynn in the final mile to win by a minute and four seconds, com- pleting the course - which went from the north promenade to Sewerby, on to Danes Dyke, back through a very muddy off- road section through the Bridlington Links golf course, and along the clifftops to the start - in 49:04. Fynn, who is usually the club's photographer, proved he is a very accomplished runner to take second spot and Dave Pring was in the bronze medal position, by beating the one hour barrier for the 10km route. Scott Hargreaves was the fastest runner in a time of 37.55, but his handicap meant that was only good enough for 19th place.

The club's junior runners held their version of the Constable Handicap, a race where the slowest runner sets off first and the fastest starts last, with whoever runs best compared to their recent form getting to the finish line ahead of the rest. Finish times: 1 Ethan Jones 14:44, 2 Erin Gummerson 15:06, 3 Louie Dixon 15:18, 4 Toby Tibbett 15:25, 5 Kyle Tibbett 16:09, 6 Rebecca Addison 16:16, 7 Clayton Hellewell 16:35, 8 Dolly Scruton 16:46, 9 Alexis Zu- lueta 16:52, 10 Kyra Lean 17:10, 11 Alfie Scruton DNF

Sunday also saw four BRR members at the Tadcaster 10 Mile event. Heidi Baker led the quartet home in 1:28:51 (358th place). Stuart Gent dipped under an hour-and-a-half in 1:29:34, and Adele Birbeck was not far behind in 1:30:18 for 393th place, and Lyn Gent took six minutes off her previous best time at the course, 502nd in 1:38:57.

23rd November The miserable weather on Saturday affected the runners at Sewerby Parkrun, where the turnout was down to 131 people braving the ele- ments. Conditions prevented any of the BRR contingent setting PBs, but Justine Sutcliffe was second female and 25th overall in 24:42. Josh Taylor was second, a minute behind winner James Wilson of Driffield Striders, with Nick Jordan, Tom Mullen and Bill Pike all in the top 10. At Cusworth Hall Parkrun Paul Brown completed the course in 41st place with a time of 27:07 and at Bushey Parkrun Phil- lip Bearman was 148th in 21:32

Some of Bridlington Road Runners' most hardcore runners took on the challenge of the Hardwolds 80 race on Saturday, a gruelling test made even more difficult because of the weekend's dismal weather. Four of them attempted the 80-mile route as individuals, and three more teamed up for the relay event. The course follows the Wolds Way from to Filey passing through , Londesbor- ough, Thixendale and the deserted medieval village of Wharram Percy, before arriving at the seaside. Brid- lington's team of the Three Musketeers, featuring Lisa Cockcroft, Andy Baker and Danny Brunton completed the long-distance route in 15 hours, 52 minutes and 49 seconds to finish in a brilliant second place - an ago- nising five minutes behind the winners from Harriers. Tackling the whole 80 miles, Karyn Hoggard and Cathy Wood, finished together in 19 hours, 45 minutes and 48 seconds - to share 20th place and the third fe- male honours. Mike Hall arrived at the finish 20 minutes later to seal 24th position and second over 50. Injury forced Anthony Hughes to pull at about the half-way point.

The Brigantia Hogshead Challenge on Sunday was an event at York Sports Village, where runners had six hours to complete as many laps of the 1km cycle circuit as they could in six hours. Simon Porter led the Bridlington quintet, racking up 51 laps, which put him ninth in the final standings. Amanda Tindall and Kirsten Porter managed an impressive 42 laps, which meant Kirsten repeated her first marathon distance at the event. They were 21st and 22nd, with Linda Hall completing 18 laps and Dee Rewston 17 in around two-and-a-half hours.

Also on Sunday, Tina and Rob Calthorpe donned fancy dress for the Santa Run in Skipton, while Heidi Baker swapped the cold and rain of East Yorkshire for the sunshine of Benidorm and took part in the Costa Blanca resort's 10km. She finished a little faster than her last time at the race and took 357th position in a time of around 54:33.

There was little to separate the two Bridlington Road Run- ners in action at the Doncaster 10k. Di Raper was 1,600th in 58:58,closely followed by Sam Adams, whose time of 59:17 was a personal best for the distance by more than two minutes.

30th November It was a reasonably quiet weekend for Bridlington Road Runners, with the Sewerby Parkrun and Bridlington Li- ons Santa Dash the two main events. Scott Hargreaves' winning streak at Sewerby continued, and he made it 12 wins out of 12 in 2019, with a time of 17:39. Nick Jordan, Josh Taylor and Tom Woodhouse also se- cured top 10 finishes, and the club's ladies were not to be outdone, with the efforts of Janet Potter, Patricia Bielby, Ellis Hodges, Gillian Taylor and Becky Lawry ensuring Bri- dlington had five of the first 10 females home.

Bill Pike was 30th at Hull Parkrun in a time of 21:16 and Andy Baker was 10th at New Ears- wick, clocking 22:45.

Across the Atlantic, Chloe Whitehouse and Danielle Whitehouse flew the flag for Bridlington at the Turkey Rock 5k in Las Vegas. They finished 162nd and 163rd with times just under 33-and-a-half minutes.
