THURSDAY, SEPT. 24, 2015 .Sentinel gmnews.com North Brunswick • South Brunswick Grants will fund restoration of Pulda farmhouse By JENNIFER AMATO Staff Writer he North Brunswick Historical Soci ety has received and will match two Tgrants to fund the restoration of one of the oldest structures in the township. The society received a $7,500 New Jer sey Historic Trust grant, which it will match, to enable $15,000 to be dedicated to the renovation of the Pulda Farm farmhouse next year, according to Michael Hritz, chair man of the historical society. The estate along Route 130 and Old Georges Road — one of the oldest roads in the township — includes an 18th-century house, seven bams and other outbuildings from the 19th and early 20th centuries, and a well-preserved setting of field gardens, or chard and distant woodland, Hritz has said. The oldest portion of the farmhouse ap pears to be from the late 18th century and appears to have been constructed in three distinct building episodes, with the 1 1/2- story wing the earliest. “[The funding is] likely to be for porch renovations ... or a modem porch to reveal the pillars that are outside and some exte rior painting,” Hritz said during the Sept. 8 council workshop meeting. “We’re very pleased. It’s the first time we’ve gotten a grant like that from the stale,” he said. Hritz also mentioned that about two hours prior to the workshop meeting, he re ceived information that the historical soci ety earned a grant from the Middlesex County Cultural & Heritage Commission for $2,250. Energizing New Jersey

Meet Greg. He’s a Lineman 1st Class and has been Energizing New Jersey for more than 16 years.

You’ve likely seen Greg outdoors, on the line - regardless of the heat, the

cold or the harsh weather conditions. That’s because he’s dedicated to

ensuring reliable energy for JCP&L customers. Of course, Greg is used

to the outdoors. In fact, he prefers it. Greg grew up in New Jersey surfing

on Monmouth County beaches, boating locally and playing ice hockey on

area rinks - three activities that he, along with his family, still enjoys today.

Greg is proud to be part of your hometown energy team.

The township acquired the 70-acre plot of farmland on Route 130 in 2010 for ap proximately $22 million — half in bonded funds, and the other half through open space funds approved by the Middlesex County Board of Chosen Freeholders. The property had been zoned for an age-restricted, planned adult community to be built by Edgewood Properties, but legislation at the time would have allowed the development to become 325 market-rate, non-age- restricted units if the developer wished to do so, so township officials saved the prop erty from development. Currently, the Pulda Farm is home to the North Brunswick Community Garden as well as the Tri-County R.C. Club of a New Jersey, a model airplane club. Officials hope to house a museum on site and use the land for passive recreation. Hritz said another important goal of the historical society is to have the Pulda Farm designated as a historical landmark.
