References by the Chair (i) Reference to three Train Accidents involving the Chhapra- Mathura Express, the Howrah-Kalka Mail and the Guwahati-Puri Express The Chairman made references to:— (a) tragic accident on the 7th July, 2011, when the Chhapra-Mathura Express rammed into a bus at an unmanned railway crossing in Uttar Pradesh leading to loss of lives of 38 persons including children and injuring around 30 persons; (b) tragic derailment of the Howrah-Kalka Mail near Malwan Railway Station in Fatehpur on the 10th July, 2011 leading to the death of more than 70 persons and causing serious injury to more than 200 persons; and (c) blast in four coaches of the Guwahati-Puri Express near Rangia in Kamrup District of Assam on 10th July, 2011 in which around 200 persons were injured. (ii) Reference to the Victims of Serial Bomb Blasts in Mumbai The Chairman made a reference to the three serial bomb blasts at Zaveri Bazar, Opera House and Dadar Bus Stand in Mumbai on the 13th July, 2011, in which 24 persons lost their lives and 126 others were seriously injured.

2 1ST AUGUST, 2011 (iii) Reference to the Victims of Cruise Ship Mishap in Russia The Chairman made a reference to the sinking of a cruise ship in a storm on the Volga River in Russia on the 10th of July, 2011, leading to loss of many innocent lives including children. (iv) Reference to Tragic Bomb Blast and Shooting in Norway The Chairman made a reference to the car bomb explosion that ripped apart a Government Building housing the Prime Minister’s Office in Oslo and the shooting spree that followed at a youth camp in the Island of Utoya, Norway, on the 22nd of July, 2011, in which 76 persons lost their lives and more than 96 were injured.
