1st Reading Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 (Read by Suyen Doan) Reader: A reading from Ecclesiastes.

For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted; a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; a time to throw away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; a time to seek, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to throw away; a time to tear, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; a time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war, and a time for peace.

Reader: Hear what the Spirit is saying to the Church. People: Thanks be to God.

2nd Reading Philippians 4:4-9 (Read by Allison Gray) Reader: A reading from Philippians.

Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. Let your gentleness be known to everyone. The Lord is near. Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Finally, beloved, whatever is true, whatever is honourable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. Keep on doing the things that you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, and the God of peace will be with you.

Reader: Hear what the Spirit is saying to the Church. People: Thanks be to God.

Farewell Words The Rev. Canon Jennifer Reid

Liturgy for the Conclusion of an Incumbency Jennifer Reid: On the 1st of June, 1989, I began my ministry at St. Peter’s, Erindale and on June 2, 2002 I began my ministry as incumbent. I have, with God’s help and to the best of my abilities, exercised this trust, accepting its privileges and responsibilities.

After prayerful and careful consideration, I made the decision to relinquish my ministry and I publicly state that my tenure as rector of St. Peter’s, Erindale has ended.

Ken Baxter: Do you, the people of St. Peter’s, Erindale, recognize and accept the conclusion of this pastoral relationship? People: We do.

All: O God, you have bound us together for a time as priest and people, to work for the advancement of Your vision in this place. We give You humble and hearty thanks for the ministry which we have shared in these years now past.

Silence

All: Especially we thank you for your never-failing presence with us through these years, and for the deeper knowledge of you and of each other which we have attained.

Silence

All: Now, we pray, be with those who leave and with us who stay; and grant that all of us, by drawing ever nearer to you, may always be close to each other in the communion of your saints. All this we ask for the sake of Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Dismissal (The Rev. Clement Carelse) Deacon: Love wholeheartedly. Live as you were created. Be God’s people in our fragmented world. All: Amen. ~ written by Tim Graves and posted on LiturgyBits. https://liturgybits.wordpress.com

Hymn ‘Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee’

1. Joyful, joyful we adore thee, God of glory, Lord of love; hearts unfold like flowers before thee, opening to the sun above. Melt the clouds of sin and sadness, drive the dark of doubt away; giver of immortal gladness, fill us with the light of day.

2. All thy works with joy surround thee, earth and heaven reflect thy rays; stars and angels sing around thee, centre of unbroken praise. Field and forest, vale and mountain, flowery meadow, flashing sea, chanting bird and flowing fountain call us to rejoice in thee.

3. Thou art giving and forgiving, ever blessing, ever blest, wellspring of the joy of living, ocean depth of happy rest! Thou our Father and our Mother, all who live in love are thine; teach us how to love each other, lift us to the joy divine.
