Political intern Hannah has one goal: to make the right connections in order to further a cause she deeply believes in. A cause that would ensure abused women are able to find justice and safety from their abusers. But when an unknown group begins threatening the safety of her sister, she finds herself in a desperate situation. Not sure of the group’s end goal, she is forced to marry the current vice-presidential candidate's son, and commit an act that would tear apart the new love she has found. But if she doesn’t follow their plan, she might have to forfeit her sister’s life. Can she protect the innocent while fighting the powerful forces that pull the strings of government or will she be crushed by the gears of a machine that has secretly controlled us all? Sweet Magnolias Season 2 Theory: Isaac's Parents Are Peggy & Ryan. Isaac spends much of Sweet Magnolias looking for his birth parents, but they're likely in front of him. Could Isaac be Peggy and Ryan's love child? Season 1 of Sweet Magnolias on Netflix leaves a burning question unanswered: who are Isaac Downey's (Christ Medlin) birth parents? Isaac and many fans of the show think the obvious answer is Dana Sue (Brook Elliott), since her time outside Serenity is a mystery, but his mother could actually be local reporter Peggy Martin, and his father could be the man who broke her heart - Ryan Wingate (Michael Shenefelt). Sweet Magnolias primarily focuses on restaurateur Dana Sue and her two best friends, Maddie Townsend (JoAnna Garcia Swisher), a newly single mother of three, and Helen Decatur (Heather Headley), a powerful attorney who dreams of becoming a mother. They live in the small town of Serenity, South Carolina, where gossip and a lot of drama are always in play. As the season progresses, the worlds of the supporting characters such as the children in town and the Sweet Magnolias' various past and present love interests come to the forefront. The audience's attention in part is brought to Isaac, a young newcomer to Serenity who works at Dana Sue's restaurant. Isaac is quite a mystery in the first several episodes, but in episode 6 it's revealed that Isaac moved to town in search of his birth parents. He doesn't have much information about them besides knowing that he's of mixed race and that his birth mother is from Serenity. Like many of the young characters in Sweet Magnolias , Isaac is hoping to find love and belonging. However, what if Isaac's mother is the town reporter, Peggy Martin (Brittany Smith)? While Isaac has now asked two people if they're his parents, he's completely missing Peggy, which is understandable. Peggy only makes an appearance in five episodes, but her short appearances remain revealing. Peggy has had a rivalry with Helen since high school, and in the season finale she alludes to a potential familiar heartbreak at the hands of Helen's ex, Ryan Wingate. She's often portrayed as a villain out to get the Sweet Magnolias, but the show suggests that she's much more than a jealous woman. Peggy mentions to Helen that she missed their high school prom because her family moved away for senior year. It could be that Peggy left Serenity to go through her pregnancy and give birth to Isaac. It would make sense that Peggy would want to keep a secret love child to herself, with fear of the consequences, even all these years later. Peggy is a good reporter, so she likely knows Isaac is searching for her but is fearful of opening old wounds caused by Ryan. Ryan first returns to Serenity from San Francisco because of a phone call from Peggy that the Sweet Magnolias were renovating his childhood home. It's the first and only direct indication the writers provide that Ryan and Peggy have a connection. Like Peggy, not much about Ryan's past is uncertain, outside of his affairs with Helen and that his father didn't approve of interracial relationships. As Helen and Ryan break up for good, it becomes abundantly clear that he doesn't want children. Ryan claims he doesn't want to bring a child into the world because of climate change and witnessing suffering in Africa, but there's a more profound pain in his eyes. The real reason Ryan is against having children could be from extreme guilt and sadness over giving up his son. Given his family's issues with race, it seems clear that he would've kept an adolescent relationship with Peggy a secret. Ryan departed Serenity at the end of the season, but he will likely make a dramatic return. Just like Peggy, Isaac has a curious mind with smart instincts, so his investigations may lead him to Peggy and Ryan in season 2 of Sweet Magnolias . The Secret Son by J.M. Downey. And the Iron Man actor, 54, says their love has lasted for far longer than normal Hollywood unions because they 'genuinely' get along, according to an interview with Parade magazine. The couple first met in 2003 on the set of Gothika - which starred Robert, and on which Susan was working as a producer - before going on to tie the knot in 2005. Coupled: Robert Downey Jr. and his wife Susan Downey continue to enjoy each other's company after 16 years. Explaining what's behind their connection, he admitted: 'We just genuinely love hanging out.' RELATED ARTICLES. Share this article. The Iron Man star has two children - Exton, seven, and Avri, five - with Susan. Although the pair balance each other out well, he usually lets her take the reins when it comes to their brood. Honest: Robert, 54, has now said their love has lasted for well over a decade because they 'genuinely' get along, as he told Parade magazine. Robert - who also has 26-year-old Indio with his ex-wife Deborah Falconer - explained: 'I defer to her. I just wasn't raised right, so chances are, I'm gonna have some caca take on things.' And the couple's differences are noticeable in their home life too, as Robert says he 'loves domestic maintenance,' whereas his spouse is often too busy with the 'machinations of her mind' to clean. The star said: 'I'm a little more the domestic type; I could just talk to you about the drapes and recovering those chairs. Partners in crime: The couple first met in 2003 on the set of Gothika - which starred Robert, and on which Susan was working as a producer - before going on to tie the knot in 2005. 'I love domestic maintenance; it just gets me off. 'The machinations of [Susan's] mind, it is astonishing - and horrifying - the sheer amount of data she is trying to process.' Robert's life with Susan, as well as his children and his career, make him happier and healthier in his 50s than he's ever been, and there's little he would change. Asked if there's anything he would alter about his life, the Dolittle star told Parade: 'I mean, I might need to floss more?' ABOUT. The stories Gord’s poems tell were fleshed into the ten songs of Secret Path with producers Kevin Drew and Dave Hamelin. Recording took place over two sessions at the Bathouse in Bath, Ontario, November and December 2013. The music features Downie on vocals and guitars, with Drew and Hamelin playing all other instruments, except guest contributions by Charles Spearin (bass), Ohad Benchetrit (lap steel/guitar), Kevin Hearn (piano), and Dave “Billy Ray” Koster (drums). In winter 2014, Gord and Mike brought the recently finished music to comic artist Jeff Lemire for his help illustrating Chanie’s story, bringing him and the many children like him to life. Secret Path acknowledges a dark part of Canada’s history – the long-supressed mistreatment of Indigenous children and families by the residential school system – with the hope of starting our country on a road to reconciliation. The ten song album will be released by Arts & Crafts accompanied by Lemire's eighty-eight page graphic novel published by Simon & Schuster Canada. Secret Path will arrive on October 18, 2016, in a deluxe vinyl and book edition, and as a book with album download. Gord Downie highlights Chanie Wenjack story with Secret Path show. Performance marks 50th anniversary of 12-year-old boy's death following escape from residential school. On the eve of the 50th anniversary of Chanie Wenjack's passing, Gord Downie offered an impassioned retelling of his story through a collection of songs honouring the late Indigenous boy. The Tragically Hip frontman, who is living with terminal cancer, performed his latest solo effort Secret Path at Roy Thomson Hall in Toronto Friday night. Day 6: Secret Path illustrator Jeff Lemire helped Gord Downie bring Chanie Wenjak's story to life. The album tells the tragic tale of 12-year-old Chanie, who died in 1966 after running away from the Cecilia Jeffrey Indian Residential School in Kenora, Ont. Downie's older brother, Mike, introduced the musician to Chanie's story, which was documented in a 1967 Maclean's story by Ian Adams called The Lonely Death of Chanie Wenjack .

  • Kevin Drew Darlings (Arts & Crafts; March 18Th, 2014)
Kevin Drew Darlings (Arts & Crafts; March 18th, 2014) Broken Social Scene’s co-founder, songwriter, and front man Kevin Drew will be releasing his newest solo album, Darlings, on March 18th, 2014, on Arts & Crafts. Darlings shows Drew growing from his role in indie vanguard Broken Social Scene to create a breakthrough statement of personal artistry. Darlings is also his first solo album that is truly, to put it bluntly, solo. If Drew’s 2007 effort Spirit If… was his inaugural step beyond the decade-long shadow of his former band, Darlings spotlights Drew with seven years more experience and maturity. Darlings reveals a more focused and refined sound; more honest, revelatory songwriting, with Drew’s craft concentrated on lyrical and emotional connections, less so than guitar pedals and studio jams. This isn’t to say these aren’t classic Kevin Drew songs. His unorthodox lyrical explorations of family, hope and disappointment, skin and spit, intercourse, cultural infection and the death of communication, figure clearer than ever into the hallmark of his infectious melodic phrasing. Darlings is a fist-pumping fight for the euphoria of the after-party and the crush of pre-dawn passions. It’s a best friend’s zealous pep talk to not give up, and bring youth back into the fresh focus of life. On Darlings, Kevin Drew casts reflective inspiration forward into the brightness of the future with a soundtrack to kick everything into high gear. Darlings features longtime collaborators Charles Spearin and Ohad Benchetrit (Do Make Say Think, Broken Social Scene) along with Dean Stone (Apostle of Hustle) and Dave Hamelin (The Stills).
