These are very big statements. We have crossed the boundary and that is a very major step, bigger than ' ' getting funds from the Government. *#07+ ;& How would you define the design revolution, this resurgence of ethnic consciousness and wearing our own identities as it were? I can explain this by citing the example of the Incredible India campaign. We were very happy to travel abroad and boast about it, but as soon as the campaign had a global impact, we started looking within. I remember there was a sudden rush and curiosity among North Indians to visit Kerala as the tagline ‘God’s own country’ became popular. That global recognition boosted our own sense of self- appreciation. Then there was this phase of experiencing the newness of modernity when many people dismantled their old houses, threw away their antique furniture, got rid of the wooden arches and replaced them with modern-day architec- tural products. Those ethnic markers, however, found ready acceptance in the West as an Indian accent. The reverse psychology worked again to reinforce the value of ethnicity. Through a mix of nostalgia and Ithe angst that comes from the madness of urban life, he imagines what Lahore must have been like in its golden days and what it might have been today had history run a different course. His keen historian’s eye helps him dig up cultur- ally loaded anecdotes that got “parti- tioned” in 1947 and makes the Indian readers wonder how many more of such anecdotes must still lie buried, waiting to be dug up again.

Later, he relinquished the Vadodara seat. Now, as another Lok Sabha poll inches closer, there is speculation over the num- ber of seats Modi will contest from. Recently, the BJP’s Odisha unit offered him Puri seat to fight from. The party has passed a formal proposal and sent it to Modi. This must be noted that Odisha will face the Assembly Elections along with Lok Sabha. The BJP believes that if the PM fights from Puri, then the party will benefit in both elections. At the same time, many leaders of Bihar BJP want the PM to contest from their State. The Patna Sahib seat was proposed for Modi, from where Shatrughan Sinha is the party MP. Modi might also be requested to fight from either East or West Champaran amidst the year-long 150th birth celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi. On the other hand, leaders of Gujarat have also urged him to contest from the State, and there is a proposal from the South as well. But one thing is certain: He will fight from Varanasi. hink about this scenario: The Left Tleaders standing with Mamata Banerjee and jointly fighting the BJP. Sounds impossible?
