Double-Double (pts/ast) While Munford will provide a majority of its offense the Rams did lose key 15 pts/12 ast, Xavier Pollard vs Siena (11/25/12) contributors in Andre Malone and Nikola Malesevic who were tied for second on the team in points per contest with 10.3. LAST TIME OUT Maine has had the opportunity to play in two exhibition contests with two squads from North of the border. On Oct. 26 the Black Bears opened up their preseason with a 2 p.m. contest against the McGill Redmen, meanwhile last week Maine finished off its exhibition season with a game against Laval on Nov. 1. Both contests took place at Memorial Gym.

In its last contest it was Dimitry Akanda-Coronel that impressed Black Bear fans. The sophomore tallied 22 points and shot an impressive 10-of-11 from the field. He also went 2-of-2 from beyond the arc. To go along with his point production Akanda-Coronel was tied for third on the team in rebounds in the game as he came down with one offensive board and three defensive rebounds. He also had two assists and three steals to complete his score line.

INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE While the Black Bears enter the season with seven freshman competing for playing time several of those young players will lean on wealth of experience at the international stage.

Akanda-Coronel played for the Cape Verdean team at the FIBA Africa Champi- onship and averaged 9.3 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. Valjarevic was the leading point scorer for Maine against McGill scoring 18 points, grabbing four rebounds and tallying one against the Redxmen. Meanwhile Coronoel went off for 22 points grabbed four boards and two assists against Laval.

MAINE LIKES TO SHARE The Black Bears offense has been centered around sharing the basketball and Career 20+ Point Games dishing it out and that’s been apparent when looking at the stats. The Black 3...... Zarko Valjarevic Bears have led America East in assists three of the last four years. Last season 1...... Xavier Pollard they were second behind Boston University with 12.8 per game however the previous three years, 2011-12 (14.1), 2010-11 (13.2) and 2009-10 (13.2), Maine led the conference in assists.

INTERNATIONAL PIPELINE Black Bears men’s basketball has served as a pipeline to the professional inter- national leagues for quite some time. Maine has had 14 former players play overseas competing in a myriad of countries including: Canada, Germany, Latvia, Turkey, Finland, Israel, Belgium Sweden and England. Some notable names to have played are Kevin Reed, Ali Fraser, Troy Barnies, current assistant coach Jon Sheets and most recently Mike Allison and Raheem Singleton, among others.

Xavier Pollard The Black Bears sport one of the youngest rosters in the NCAA as they have a freshman class of six, five sophomores, three juniors and zero seniors on this years squad. Last season’s squad was the third-youngest team in division I basketball.
