Dear Friends,

This past Monday was the third Gathering for our new Family of Parishes. Unlike the first two which were Zoom meetings, we gathered in- person that evening. There were PRAYER about 175 participants from our five families: Sacred Heart, St. Anselm, Father in Heaven, St. Linus, St. Sabina, and Divine renew Your wonders in our time, as though by a Child. We met here at Divine Child. New Pentecost.

The night began with prayer and about fifteen minutes of Holy Spirit, beautiful praise and worship music provided by Matt increase Your gifts in us to move boldly into Simpson and representatives from our Family of Parishes. I think it was helpful to have people witness to His love and mercy. get to know a little bit more about our local clergy. This is our mission! And we embrace it anew. That was followed by lay leaders and clergy sharing something about one or a few ministries taking place at Grant that Your Holy Church in Detroit, praying each of our parishes. All that took place in just one hour! perseveringly and insistently with one mind, together with Mary, the mother of Jesus, and We then prayed the prayer for Family of Parishes provided guided by St. Joseph, St. Anne and Bl. The hymn begins with the words: “You may increase the reign of the Divine Savior, are God, we praise You; You are Lord, we thank You.” the reign of truth and justice, We have much to thank God for each and every day! the reign of love and peace.

After a final blessing, we all went into the Gathering Space We ask this through Christ Our Lord. Amen to enjoy an hour of fellowship and refreshments.

I want to thank our parish team that made this wonderful night such a success! It is never easy to move into uncharted waters, but the prayerful, positive spirit that prevailed at our Gathering, I think was a real shot in the arm for everyone who came.

My hope is that as we look back with every passing year, we will be able to recognize many ways in which each Eucharistic Adoration Resumes! parish in our Family has been enriched, thanks to our participation in the life of our Family of Parishes. There is a state of mind that one encounters when they step foot onto the grounds of our campus. A sense of calm, peace, and acceptance, which causes a desire to take ownership in maintaining, developing, and enhancing every aspect of DC. You are enveloped in all this beauty well before entering the church.

Once inside the Church, the simple lines of the design immediately draws your attention to its heart, the Altar. Around God’s Altar is where we gather for the greatest liturgical celebration of all: The Holy Sacrament of the Eucharist. It is the summit and font of our church’s life.

A change that came about with Vatican II, was the relocation of God’s Altar. The Altar doesn’t divide the priest from the congregation. It truly allows everyone present to be fully conscious, and an active participant in The Holy Sacrament of the Eucharist. We’re able to invest our whole being, soul and body, in an informed manner, into the ritual action of the liturgy according to our ministry in the church, which is our right and duty as baptized members of Christ’s body.

As members of the Divine Child family, we gather around God’s Altar to participate and witness when the gifts of bread and wine are consecrated into the real presence of Jesus’ Body and Blood. Allowing us to have a personal encounter with our Lord, Jesus Christ. As the lines in the Eucharist prayer says, “For this is my Body;” “For this is my Blood.”

Peace,

Fr. John Church of the Divine Child, Dearborn, Michigan Page 5 Page 6 Church of the Divine Child, Dearborn, Michigan

St. Mary Magdalene - Feast Day, July 22

When you read or hear in the Scriptures about the resurrection of Jesus Christ, do you imagine what the disciples must have thought or how they felt when they saw the empty Tomb of Christ? Or what about Mary Magdalene who was one of his followers and witnessed the crucifixion?

She is mentioned in all four Gospel accounts in relation to the resurrection of Jesus. How interesting! The four do not mention that the apostles or other disciples were the first to see the empty tomb where the body of Jesus was placed after his crucifixion. They were informed later by Mary of Magdala and the women who were with her. In Matthew, Mark, and Luke, we learn that Mary Magdalene and women with her discover the empty tomb and see angels informing them that the Lord Jesus had been raised. He is not there.

However, in the Gospel of John 20:11-18, after Mary of Magdala saw the empty tomb and ran to tell Peter and the apostles, she returned to the tomb and wept. Jesus appears to her, although she thought it was the gardener; she was deep in sorrow.

It wasn’t until she heard her name Mary called out, when she turned and saw Jesus. She then went and told the disciples: I have seen the Lord! PilgrimCenterOfHope.org

Anointing of the Sick Please call the Rectory Office to request this Sacrament. In emergency situations when the office is closed, the emergency line attendant will take the call.

Baptisms Arrangements must be made in advance and parents must attend a Baptism class prior to the Baptism. The Church requires that at least one of the parents and one of the godparents/sponsors be practicing Catholics; that is, they attend Mass each weekend.

Marriages Arrangements must be made at least six months in advance and couple must be active, registered members at a Catholic Church. Potential wedding date is not confirmed until couple meets with a Divine Child priest. Officiant at the ceremony will be a priest from Divine Child unless the couple has someone close to them who is a Catholic priest. Music for the liturgy must be coordinated with our Director of Music Ministry, Mr. Matthew Simpson.

Funerals Arrangements are made in conjunction with the funeral home. Eulogies must be given at the funeral home or at the funeral luncheon; no eulogies at the funeral Mass, please. Memorial Masses are scheduled Monday-Friday only.

Quinceañeras Arrangements must be made in advance at the Rectory Office. Please call Alicia Reyes at 313-277-3110.
