GO-SEVA

Our mother cow Subhadra gave birth to a female calf on 1st march 2008 at 11.30 am. The calf is cute looking, with brownish complexion and a white spot on the forehead like a mark. The mother and the calf are both in healthy condition. Now Subhadra is giving around 4 liters of for the pleasure of Sri Sri Gaura Nitai.

Mother cow gowri is giving about 2 liters of milk every day. After consumption of the milk by the resident devotees, the extra milk is converted to yogurt, butter, butter milk, and used for further deity service. We plan to also use extra ghee for making of sticks to offer in Worship. Another cow Radhe is expected to deliver her calf very shortly. HG Giriraja Prabhu is single handedly taking care of all the cows and due to his sincere efforts they are very healthy even in this dry season.

This season we also found that there were a lot of gocharies (cow bugs) that suck blood from the body of the cow. These insects also bite humans causing rashes throughout the body. But after treating with some medicine to drink and apply, they vanished. The best local medicine used for this purpose is heated with coconut oil.

Fodder seeds that were to be supplied by the Hebri Veterinary Center, will be given only during the beginning of the monsoon season. This is not issued now since they do not grow in the summer.

PANCHAGAVYA BASED PRODUCTS

HG Sundaranand prabhu completed his training in panchagavya based products from “Go Vigyan Anusandhan Kendra”, Kamadhenu Goshala Sevadham, a research center in panchagavya based Ayurvedic medicinal products.

The training was mainly on three subjects 1. Panchagavya based Ayurvedic medicines 2. Panchagavya based wormy compost 3. Panchagavya based pest controller.

We are pleased to inform that all the above are now being implemented at SSKBK.

For wormy compost, pits are dug to the size of 4X10X0.75 ft. Dry leaves mixed with cow dung and little water are added to the pit and it is left in the sun for 15 days. Earth-worms are then left on the mixture to multiple. They break down and also aerate the compost. This is later on used on the fields as good natural fertilizer. Amrit Pani that is made from cow-urine, cow-dung and jaggary is also used as manure for trees and plants.

Pest controller is made with cow-urine mixed with leaves, roots and branches of neem tree. When the plants are about 1.5 ft in height, this is sprayed on the plants to prevent the attack of pests.

A sample of the go arc (an Ayurvedic Medicine) and tooth powder made from cow-dung ash, salt, peppermint, ajwan sattva, camphor, lavang oil produced at SSKBK has been sent to Mayapur for sample and display at the varnasrama seminar.

AGRICULTURE: USE OF INDIGENOUS PUMPS

Since the recent use of machines like fuel pumps, electric pumps for irrigation and use of chemical pesticides, urea and tractors for agriculture - the use of cows and bulls are on decline even in a country like India. Automatically the bulls and old cows are ending up in slaughter houses or are left untended. Other than utilizing bulls for ploughing the field, bulls can also be used for a lot of farm chores as - helping in lifting water, churning oil etc. This not only prevents pollution but also reduces the burden of petroleum import and crisis faced by the nation.

We are trying to implement these exercises at SSKBK especially for irrigation. The following methods are being implemented. 1. Ring & Rope Mohte –or- Circular Mohte 2. Persian wheel 3. Yatham

Mohte is very simple to implement. The only mechanical component is a pulley and the only structure is the frame to hold the pulley. This is widely used in India. An improved version of this is the Circular mohte. This involves attaching the animal to a sweep so that they can walk in a circle. This also allows the animals to work with less supervision. To balance the load, two buckets are used so that the empty one descends while the full one comes up.

The Persian wheel is a further improvement on the Mohte. Its chain of buckets imposes an almost constant load on the drive shaft to the wheel. Persian wheels are usually driven by some form of right angle drive. Since the sweep of a Persian wheel carries an almost constant load, it helps the animal establish a steady comfortable pace and needs little supervision.

Yatham is another simple mechanism that uses the leverage principle. It has already been successfully implemented at SSKBK for the riverside land. This yatham is widely used mainly in the state of Andhra Pradesh, India. HG Giriraja prabhu’s father completely designed and constructed this yatham using locally available materials. It can deliver around 100 liters of water per minute. We have installed 2 yathams and the water output is 200 liters of water per minute with 2 people working on the yatham.

In the river side land we are cultivating ladies finger, bitter gourd, cucumber, ridge gourd, snake gourd, bottle gourd, spinach, pumpkin, long bean and moog dahl. To distract the birds a hand made fan which makes sound is installed designed by HG Giriraja prabhu’s father.

Coconuts have been harvested from about 25 trees at SSKBK. Many of them are dried in the sun to be sent to the mill to extract oil. We plan to construct an animal operated oil mill in the near future at SSKBK.

We have harvested soapnut for use in cleaning cloth. This is a very good and echo friendly replacement of the harmful chemical detergents. Soapnuts are soaked overnight in water and in the morning it is ready for cleaning the dirt out of the cloth. It has got a good natural fragrance too. One tree can give enough soapnut which can be used by a family for the entire year.

TOOL ROOM ORGANIZATION

It often happens that somebody may take a tool to the field and forget to bring it back from the farm. These tools, if not looked after properly, get lost and even at times buried under the ground or camouflaged in the field. To tackle this problem which kept repeating, the Tool Room has been specially made to store all the agricultural implements and other tools.

The room has been organized in such a way that just one look at the tool room will indicate what tool is missing. This is done by providing a particular place for each tool and at the end of the day a glance at the tool room will indicate which tool is missing from the spot.

YOGA THERAPY INSTITUTE NEWS

H.G. Prananatha prabhu has left for Sri Dham Mayapur in West Bengal to conduct seminars and courses on Yoga under the auspices of the Mayapur Institute of Higher Education and Training, MIHET. Sri Dham Mayapur is the birth place of Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu as well as the headquarters of ISKCON. During the Sri Gaura Poornima festivals which falls on 21st march this year thousands of Krishna devotees from all over the world come to Mayapur to celebrate the mercy of Lord Caitanya on the fallen souls of this age.

MIHET conducts various courses during this time for the benefit of devotees and has kindly given permission for conducting course on Yoga from our Sahyadri Yoga Institute in SSKBK.

A seminar on Varnasrama Development will also be conducted by GLOVESCO. His Holiness Bhakti Raghava Swami Maharaja, Director of GLOVESCO, arrived in India for conducting the varnasrama seminars. These courses and seminars will be conducted free of cost for the interested devotees. Yoga kits will also be distributed to them on nominal cost for their continuation of Yoga practices.

At SSKBK, common toilets and bathrooms were built near the Yoga Kutir to be used by the patients and guests. These are made by the devotees themselves. Water will be supplied to the bath and toilets by using animal powered water lift devices.

ASHRAM ACTIVITIES

The Barahmacari Ashrama has been shifted to the Kutir with its separate arrangements for washing, cleaning, cooking, study etc. This is done following the varnasrama principle that the temple brahmacharis should live separate from the living place of grhasthas.

Regular Istagoshties (meetings) are being held between devotees which is key for development of any project. Various decisions had been taken to improve on the existing services. Few changes in the timings of the offering to the deities have been taken up. More time has been included in the daily schedule for hearing and chanting the names of Lord Krishna.

DONATION TAX EXEMPTIONS

The 80G tax exemption certificate which was awarded to GLOVESCO has been extended till March 2010 by the commissioner of Income tax Mangalore.

CONGREGATIONAL PREACHING (NAMA HATTA)

A weekly congregational preaching program has been started at Udupi at the house of Sri Vinay Kamath by the SSKBK devotees. About 25 people attend the Sunday program. Varnasrama concepts are being introduced and many have shown interest to procure land for cow protection and to live a simple life by growing their own food.

VARNASRAMA READING

Srimad Bhagavatam 6.7.13 Purport:

A civilization in which the people do not know how the representative of Narada and Krishna should be respected, how society should be formed and how one should advance in Krishna consciousness – a society concerned only with manufacturing new cars and new sky scrapers every year and then breaking them to pieces and making new ones –may be technologically advanced, but it is not a human civilization. A human civilization is advanced when its people follow the catur varna system - the system of four orders of life.

There must be ideal first class men to act as advisors, second class men to act as administrators, third class men to produce food and protect cows, and fourth class men who obey the three higher classes of society. One who does not follow the standard system should be considered a fifth class man. FINANCIAL REPORT FOR FEBRUARY, 2008
