Also upon the reception, and delivery of Liber Phoenix by Frater Aion 131, Silver Star Journal of New Magick has exploded with the certain Star Fire of Nu Life; Something like a small Death all of its own, for those intimately aquainted especially with its inception. Firstly, the journal has taken on a newer digital format, as a tail end on the meteorite landing of a new website for the Horus Ma'at Lodge (horusmaatlodge.com), accounced this summer, 2013. This is in part of a push for the Journal to come virtually up to date with the times as with the web site which prompted a shift in editors in the journal's ninth year, with an intermittent two year hiatus. The changing of hands means that Silver Star will look different as it evolves, but the Spirit of the journal surely remains the same. Just as the Heart of the Phoenix never dies, some torches of a certain Promethean Fire may be passed on though the source of their force can never be smothered, their flames are Eternal, or at least, Eternal-Seeming. Frater Aion respectively began this periodical in 2004, and it is largely to both him, the inspiration, and he grit of other core members, that we may all toast our chalices of ink, blood, or meta-(possibly fizzical)-liquid of our pick for the opportunity to participate in Silver Star Journal. This publication has been sustained, and manfiested by the participating, practing artists, ritualists, magickians, writers, essayists, and magickal folk who's Great Work has made the journal possible these many years long. Silver Star has helped to solidify the Foundations of the Horus Ma'at Lodge through Time. It has fortified, and stregnthened our virtual esoteric community for Past, and Future generations of Magi/Maga. Through the constant flow of Arte-istic themes, synchronicities are woven from the intentional Web of the Work of the Lodge, and can easily be witnessed. Beyond this having an effect to tighten the bonds of those interested in the Lodge, its members, and the Work thereof, Silver Star has become manifest even as its own seemingly intelligent Egregoric enterprise. Silver Star represents the abundance in personal freedom, ripe for the taking, available to any adept who but reaches out their hand in an effort to make a drop in the pool. For our unsuspecting contributors from Times Yet to Be, do not be surprised when the pool jumps up, and envelops you. We are releasing this Volume III, issues #1 on October 12th, affectionately referred to by Thelemites, and (oc)cultists alike as Crowleymass, the day when Aleister Crowley was born unto this Earth via the loins of a perposterous matron. If there is one thing that I have garnered from Aleister Crowley recently, it is toward the ends of learning to take some enjoyment from being vilified. We are in an age when ignorance is truly an excuse, as we exist heavily steeped in nothing short of the evidence of knowledge. It's like the scent of flowers on the Aire; we only need to pick it up. In fact, quite literally, all that we need do to answer most questions is refer to the internet; The Great Library of Alexandria, re-erected, without walls! Even in the case of metaphorical questioning, where the answers can truly only be found by the Self, the internet can still give us some fantastic indications aiding greatly in the process of our unfolding. Those of us who seek answers ultimately must go beyond the limitations that our soceity has set for us. In the United Kingdom it's being said that come 2014, the internet will be subject to a mass censorship campaign against things like child pornography, buggery, suicide web sites, and other extremely heinous, often illegal activities. In this pile of things to be censored, and cut out of common internet exposure, is broad term "esoteric content." To even have these words put into the same category as kiddie porn, is a sort of vilification of homo veritas, or evolved man, Itself/Himself/Herself/Hir Self. It is a stone hurled from the past, directly into the faces of our Future, and many have heard tell that other countries will be asked to follow suit. The Horus Ma'at Lodge's web site exists on an independent server that we feel can be relied upon come any attempted seige of online consciousness, thankfully though there are no concrete rumors of the United States jumping on board with this just yet. This could hardly be more frightening to those amongst us who realize that here poses an extreme threat to our freedom as people, and as Ssspiritual beings, and practitioners. Regardless, the censorship does not limit us from experiencing our own experiences, or treading our own unique paths, and no government will ever win any war on our very thoughts, expressed without killing the most important parts of themselves in the process. Now, more than ever, we must see how despite our differences we are better when we ban together, as Silver Star Journal has actively encouraged nothing short of acceptance, and inclusion of all creeds. This alleged forthcoming law is not the Law, and may well limit others in the future wishing to follow their own paths, who will not have the priviledge of such easy information plucking from the storehouse of Yesod. It is in this time that we may consider renewed support in our occult book, and magazine publishers.

  • Aleister Crowley and the Hidden God to Assume
Introduction THIS BOOK contains a critical study of Aleister Crowley's system of sexual magick and its affmities with the ancient Tantric rites of Kali, the dark goddess of blood and dissolution represented in Crowley's Cult as the Scarlet Woman. It is an attempt to supply a key to the work of an Adept whose vast knowledge of occultism was unsurpassed by any previous Western authority. I have emphasized the similarity between Crowley's Cult of Thelema and Tantra because the present wave of interest in the Tantric System makes it probable that readers will be able to assess more fully the importance of Crowley's contribution to occultism in general and to the Magical Path in particular. As a result of many years' research into obscure phases of occultism I have evolved a method of dream control for contacting extra-terrestrial and non-human entities; this forms the substance of Chapters Six and Seven. This method is described in relation to the mysteries of Kundalini, the supreme magical power symbolized by the sleeping Fire Snake at the base of the spine which, after its awakening, activates the subtle power-zones in the human body. Aleister Crowley, Austin Spare, Dion Fortune and the German occultist Eugen Grosche were among the first Adepts in the West to teach the use of the psycho-sexual energies, the Ophidian Current that informed the most ancient arcana of Africa and the Far East. Although it was Crowley who first integrated this current with the Westem Esoteric Tradition, this was not achieved without some doubtful interpretations of oriental symbolism.

What are their motivations, their ideals, and the everyday realities of their experiences? And how do these accommodate to, coalesce with, or conflict with major national health goals? Sheikh and George are to be congratulated for their initiative in stimulating contributors to such a well- constructed volume — one that will undoubtedly set the agenda for health-related policy-relevant research in India over the next decade.

  • Scintillations in Mauve
starfire2420nov.qxd 20/11/11 11:05 pm Page 9 Scintillations in Mauve An Introduction to the Work of Kenneth Grant enneth Grant was one of the most influential occultists of the 20th century. He leaves behind a substantial and formidable K body of work which will be explored and developed over the years to come. What follows here is an introductory survey of his work — a basis for deeper, more substantial consideration of his work in the future. Born in Essex in 1924, Kenneth Grant developed an intense interest in the occult from an early age, as well as a life-long devotion to Buddhism and other oriental religions. He remarked somewhere in his writings that Eastern mysticism was his first love — an indication not only of how well read he was, but more importantly perhaps his heightened sense of the immanent. Grant relates in Outside the Circles of Time how he had come across a copy of Magick in Theory and Practice — at Zwemmers, in the Charing Cross Road — in the late 1930s or early 1940s. At this period he had also discovered Austin Osman Spare’s The Book of Pleasure at Michael Houghton’s Atlantis Bookshop in Museum Street. After immersing himself in the works of Crowley, he finally managed to make contact with him in 1944, writing to the address provided in The Book of Thoth which had just been published. Visiting him several times, Grant subsequently stayed with him at ‘Netherwood’ in Hastings in 1945, immersed in Magick. Many years later, Grant wrote a memoir of this period of his life, Remembering Aleister Crowley.

The Gift of Life: Death As Teacher in the Aghori Sect Rochelle Suri Daniel B. Pitchford California Institute of Integral Studies Saybrook University San Francisco, CA, USA San Francisco, CA, USA This article utilizes the example of the Aghori, with their radical and unique perspective on death, as a challenge to the Western world to live an authentic, present life by maintaining awareness of mortality. Specifically, three main themes are explored: first, a theoretical engagement of the concept of death based on the (Western) philosophy of existentialism, second, a review of the historical origins and philosophy of the Aghori sect, and third, a depiction of the Aghoris as a living example of vigorously accepting death as an inevitability of life.

SVILOVA | WILLIAM BASINSKI DISINTEGRATION LOOP 1.1 WILLIAM BASINSKI JUNE 18–JULY 31, 2014 www.svilova.org 1 SVILOVA | WILLIAM BASINSKI SCALE BE THY KING: THE BLACK Mirror OF William Basinski By David Keenan 1. Scalle Bee Thie Kynge. There is a magical idea, rarely articulated, that imagination is the world-creating matrix of desire, in other words that imagination is what translates a sensation into a thought. Disintegration Loops, still the central, emblematic work of the artist and composer William Basinski, conflates the biological with the constructed, the historical with the personal, by a creative act of imagination that would attempt to mimic the function of memory via accidental processes of auto-forgetting while connecting it with historical trauma –the 9/11 attacks on the Twin Towers as a head wound – and romantic portraiture, through the back cover recreation of Henry Wallis’s 1856 painting, The Death Of Chatterton, with Basinski posed as the dead 18th Century English poet, who poisoned himself in 1770, aged 17. Thomas Chatterton’s reputation as a forger of mystical poetry is of note here. From the age of 12 onwards he produced a run of strange, visionary verse that he claimed was the work of a 15th century monk of his own invention, Thomas Rowley. Indeed, a particular adjective, “Rowliean”, has been coined to describe the works of this historical figment, this shade birthed of an intoxicated imagination. Rowley’s verse is difficult, its language being largely derived from Chatterton’s study of the English philologist John Kersey’s Dictionarium Anglo-Britannicum, “comprehending a brief explication of all sorts of difficult words”.

Simon Finn Music 1969 - 2014 Excerpt from The Hour Un-Finn-ished business by Steve Guimon Simon Finn has been given another crack at the troubled profession of sing- er/songwriter, his story the stuff of legend: A lone wolf troubadour from the mid-’60s U.K. scene, he rubbed shoulders with the likes of Bert Jansch. The powerful Pass the Distance, released to critical acclaim, seemingly lost for- ever... Since, a new record has surfaced – capturing the past and the present, a seamless transition despite the quarter century Simon Finn has won over fans worldwide – including Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore and ex-Blur gui- tarist Graham Coxon – with his passion, his wit and his soul-shaking music. Aside from his solo shows Simon also plays guitar in a band called Current 93, which were the cover story of the July Wire. In 2006 his original album, Pass the Distance, was made in 1969, with David Toop (author of The Rap Attack and Oceans of Sound) and Paul Burwell. It was produced by Vic Keary who ran Mushroom records at the time. His 2007 release, Accidental Life, has also been recorded and mastered by Vic Keary. Playing on it are: Joolie Woods, David Toop, Karl Blake (Lemon Kittens) Keith Godman, with backing vocals from Danielle Dax and Rose McDowall (Strawberry Switchblade). Alex Shoumatoff, contributing editor Vanity Fair “Simon Finn is one of the last old time Sixties singer-songwriters. His songs have words that are actually worth listening to, and his voice is great. He’s a quirky original and the real deal.

  • Shiva, the Destroyer and the Restorer
Shiva, The Destroyer and the Restorer DR.RUPNATHJI( DR.RUPAK NATH ) 7 SHIV TATTVA In Me the universe had its origin, In Me alone the whole subsists; In Me it is lost-Siva, The Timeless, it is I Myself, Sivoham! Sivoham! Sivoham! Salutations to Lord Shiva, the vanquisher of Cupid, the bestower of eternal bliss and Immortality, the protector of all beings, destroyer of sins, the Lord of the gods, who wears a tiger-skin, the best among objects of worship, through whose matted hair the Ganga flows. Lord Shiva is the pure, changeless, attributeless, all-pervading transcendental consciousness. He is the inactive (Nishkriya) Purusha (Man). Prakriti is dancing on His breast and performing the creative, preservative and destructive processes. When there is neither light nor darkness, neither form nor energy, neither sound nor matter, when there is no manifestation of phenomenal existence, Shiva alone exists in Himself. He is timeless, spaceless, birthless, deathless, decayless. He is beyond the pairs of opposites. He is the Impersonal Absolute Brahman. He is untouched by pleasure and pain, good and evil. He cannot be seen by the eyes but He can be realised within the heart through devotion and meditation. Shiva is also the Supreme personal God when He is identified with His power. He is then omnipotent, omniscient active God. He dances in supreme joy and creates, sustains and destroys with the rhythm of His dancing movements. DR.RUPNATHJI( DR.RUPAK NATH ) He destroys all bondage, limitation and sorrow of His devotees. He is the giver of Mukti or the final emancipation.

Traditionally, the purposefulness and relevance of a singer-songwriter were defined by something unique in their lyrical acumen, vocal skills and/or guitar or piano accompaniment. In the 1990s this paradigm was tested by the trend towards larger orchestrastion and towards electronic orchestration. In the 2000s it became harder and harder to give purpose and meaning to a body of work mostly relying on the message. Many singer-songwriters of the 2000s belonged to "Generation X" but sang and wrote for members of "Generation Y". Since "Generation Y" was inherently different from all the generations that had preceeded it, it was no surprise that the audience for these singer-songwriters declined. Since the members of "Generation X" were generally desperate to talk about themselves, it was not surprising that the number of such singer- songwriters increased. The net result was an odd disconnect between the musician and her or his target audience. The singer-songwriters of the 2000s generally sounded more "adult" because... they were.
