Last Observed: ~995-07-28 First Observed: 1900-06-10 Occurrence Rank: A Rank Comments: Largest and most extensive known occurrence, threats relatively low at present, although some areas are being trampled by off-road vehicles.

Data: 1995-07-28: Only one (a small, first year individual) and numerous seedlings observed. No evidence of fruit production in 1995 (following the poor seedling establishment year in 1994). Ca 4 seedlings per square meter observed in sample demographic plots. Occurs with PHACELIA DEMISSA. More widespread on adjacent rolling shale plains than previously recognized. 1994-05-29: Locally abundant but scattered on slopes. Total population estimated at about 50,000 flowering and fruiting plants. Plants occur in a non-random clumped distribution pattern. Density averages 0.4-6.5 plants per square meter. Very few seedlings observed. Occurs with ARTEMISIA PEDATIFIDA, MUSINEON DIVARICATUM, ATRIPLEX SUCKLEYI, THELYPODIOPSIS ELEGANS, CYMOPTERUS ACAULIS, and IPOMOPSIS CONGESTA. 1988-06-20: Data from 3 demographic monitoring plots show the average density to be 0.23-0.8 flowering and fruiting plants per square meter. Total population size is estimated to be 6500-11000 plants. 1981-06-16: 46119 second-year and 29544 first-year plants estimated (actual count = 7012 second-year and 3102 first-year plants) . 1980-06-06: In flower. 1978-06-29: In flower and fruit. Data: 1994-05-30: 633 flowering and fruiting plants observed, population estimated at 1500-1800. Locally abundant on clay fans at sides of low hills where vegetative cover is low. Occurs with ARTEMISIA PEDATIFIDA, ELYMUS sp., ALLIUM, and THELYPODIOPSIS ELEGANS. 1981-05-11: 630 second-year and 210 first-year plants estimated (Actual count = 252 second-year and 63 first-year plants) . Population density of 11 plants per acre estimated. In flower and early fruit. Occurs with ATRIPLEX and CYMOPTERUS. 1901-06-21: In flower and fruit.

Habitat: ATRIPLEX GARDNER! community with scattered bunchgrasses on slopes of small hills of semi-barren fine clay with surface of black oily-shale and pumice-like rocks. Soil very dry on surface, but moist below and deep.

Elevation: 7560-7600 feet Size: 60 acres

Comments: Merrill and Wilcox collection from 1901 may be from the vicinity of this EO ( 11 45 mi north of·Point of Rocks"). Data: 1981-06-15: In flower and fruit. Occurs with ATRIPLEX, CYMOPTERUS. 1995-07-29: Only first-year rosettes observed, population estimated at 10,000. Plants often densely clustered. Most numerous in areas of low cover at toe of clay mounds (absent from slopes and summits of bare mounds). Occurs with LOMATIUM FOENICULACEUM, ATRIPLEX SUCKLEYI, MONOLEPIS NUTTALLIANA, STANLEYA VIRIDIFLORA, ALLIUM CERNUUM, CAMISSONIA SCAPOIDEA, and MUSINEON DIVARICATUM.

Habitat: ATRIPLEX GARDNERI-ELYMUS ELYMOIDES community with cover of 20-70% on fine-textured clay-shale flats and rolling terrain. Absent from the ecotone between A. GARDNERI-ELYMUS and ARTEMISIA TRIDENTATA-ORYZOPSIS HYMENOIDES communities and where ARTEMISIA PEDATIFIDA cover is high.

Elevation: 7400- feet Size: 15 acres Comments: Lichvar specimen label has TRS as T23N R101W S28, putting it SE of Steamboat Mountain and in the middle of sand dunes. Probably, the Township is T24N, wjich matches the description of the site better. This ambiguous location site could not be relocated in surveys in 1994. Elevation: 7300-7540 feet Size: acres Comments: Aven Nelson collected this species (which he described as a new taxon, P. KNIGHT!!) at "Bush Ranch" in 1900, in the vicinity of Bush Rim. Nelson found the plants "secured upon the absolutely naked to all appearances slopes of the Wasatch Clays. The tiny plants occurred only in the cracks in the loose soil and were detected by Prof. W. c. KNIGHT, to whom the species is dedicatedrr.
