4 CLYDEBANK FC OFFICIAL MATCH PROGRAMME SEASON 2013-14 CLYDEBANK FC OFFICIAL MATCH PROGRAMME SEASON 2013-14 33 Budgie’s Bit I was very pleased with our overall performance against Auchinleck Talbot at Beechwood Park last Saturday. Obviously it wasn’t perfect as we didn’t take the points, and we should always strive for perfection, but taking everything into account, I thought our lads were very good. It is undoubtedly the best footballing performance we’ve produced against Talbot it was also great experience for our younger players. This time last season Ciaran McElroy and Marc Russell were playing under 21 football, and Reece Pearson and Ross Harvie are still young enough to play at that level, so for them to face a strong Junior outfit like Talbot and come out of it with credit bodes well for the future. You quite often hear people saying that sometimes in football you don’t always get what you deserve and that was certain- ly the case for our players against Talbot on Saturday. You have to credit the Talbot players though for producing two good quality finishes and taking the three points from a game in which they weren’t allowed to dominate like they’re used to. They created hardly any opportunities against us and on another day I’m sure we could’ve taken some of the chances we created. It didn’t take our lads too long to bounce back from Saturdays defeat as we defeated Rutherglen Glencairn 3-1 in a friendly on Monday night at Glasgow Green with Ciaran, Chris and Archie getting our goals. The only players not to feature over both games were the injured Ross Campbell and Craig McCready who missed the games due to family issues. Today we welcome one of my ex clubs when Arthurlie come to visit us on league business although we beat them quite convincingly at Dunterlie earlier this season, we cannot afford to underestimate them as they have shown signs of improve- ment with a couple of results recently after a difficult start to the season with injuries playing a big part in their results. Gavin Duncan’s men have taken points off both Kilbirnie & Auchinleck Talbot in the past few weeks so that would suggest they have improved since our game earlier in the season. Due to the fixtures that have been scheduled this week, a victory today could see us move a couple of places up the league table therefore we have to look to make up for last week’s disappointment by bouncing back with a victory no matter how difficult Arthurlie might make it for us.

Hope you enjoy today’s game.

Billy McGhie.

32 CLYDEBANK FC OFFICIAL MATCH PROGRAMME SEASON 2013-14 CLYDEBANK FC OFFICIAL MATCH PROGRAMME SEASON 2013-14 5 West of Scotland Cup

The Second round draw has been made for the New Coin Holdings West of Scotland Cup and as you can see Bankies have been given yet another tough cup draw by being paired at home with Auchinleck Talbot. Our luck in cup draws in recent seasons hasn’t been too kind to us having faced Talbot, Linlithgow, Bonnyrigg, Glenafton and Irvine Meadow all in the Scottish so we look to the other competitions to get the favourable draw from which we can go on a good run. Since we entered the Junior Leagues in 2003 our record in the West hasn’t been too good. We have made it as far as the Fourth round once and we haven’t been beyond the second round for the last four seasons. If we want to do better this year we will have to do it by beating the best in the cup at the first time of asking and maybe then the players could get a lift that would take them all www.weddellsgarage.co.uk the way to the final where we could add the cup to the Sectional League Cup already won this season. SECOND ROUND DRAW email [email protected] Blantyre Vics V Hurlford Utd Utd V Kilwinning Rangers Kilbirnie Ladeside V Maybole Lesmahagow V Shettleston Carluke Rovers V Rob Roy Irvine Vics V Troon Muirkirk V Cambuslang Rangers Dunipace V Greenock Vale of Leven V Ashfield Clydebank V Auchinleck Talbot Cumnock V Largs Thistle Larkhall Thistle V Shotts Bon Accord Arthurlie V Kilsyth Rangers Renfrew V Johnstone Burgh Pollok V Petershill Neilston V Yoker Athletic

Interesting to note is that out of the 32 teams left in this years competition at this stage, is that only ten of them come from Ayrshire. With three all Ayrshire ties in the round that means a maximum of seven could be in the last sixteen so the odds are looking good for a Central side to lift the cup . Could it be our year?

6 CLYDEBANK FC OFFICIAL MATCH PROGRAMME SEASON 2013-14 CLYDEBANK FC OFFICIAL MATCH PROGRAMME SEASON 2013-14 31 Bankies at Talbot 30/11/13 From The Boardroom

Second-Half goals from strikers Bryan Young and Allan McKenzie gave It was very disappointing to lose last week's away match at Auchinleck Talbot after playing so well for Auchinleck a hard-fought win as they bounced back from the previous week’s long periods. Two great goals from a fine Junior team made the difference but over the balance of Scottish Cup defeat at Bo’ness. Bankies gave it their best shot but paid for play it was really satisfying that our players did so well. I think we deserved to take something from missed chances as Talbot ended realistic hopes they had of mounting a title the match and judging by the backing the fans gave the team, so did most Bankies. challenge. Only once in these ten seasons have the Lie been close to the relegation places when Stewart Kean Hurlford Utd 11 10 21 finishing tenth in 05-06 following an incredible twelve point penalty after an incident at Beechwood Park. Willie Sawyers Rob Roy 6 13 19 Other than that they have always been in the top seven so it comes as a culture shock to the Dunterlie Chris Mackie Petershill 11 8 19 faithful to see their favourites skirting the relegation zone with more than half their league programme Ian Diack Pollok 3 13 16 already completed. The pressure is clearly on gaffer Gavin Duncan to lift his players out of the position David Gormley Auchinleck Talbot 10 5 15 they find themselves in at present. Richie Barr Pollok 9 4 13 Gary Smith Arthurlie 8 4 12 There have been four meetings between these two sides here at Holm Park in three different competitions Robert Love Cumnock 7 5 12 and all four have been won by Arthurlie. Former Petershill defender Ryan Jordan Ryan Deas Rob Roy 2 6 8 is now at the heart of the Arthurlie defence and his experience will make them a very tough proposition for Keir Milliken Auchinleck Talbot 3 5 8 the Bankies forward line. Ross Robertson Hurlford Utd 1 6 7 Chris Hall Irvine Meadow 4 3 7 Clydebank fans have recently been bemoaning the lack of an out and out striker at the club. This has been Ross McPherson Clydebank 4 3 7 an ongoing complaint by a growing number amongst the support. Some would argue that having one Liam McGuiness Kilbirnie Ladeside 2 5 7 player scoring the lion’s share of a club’s goals is commonplace and desirable. For example Clydebank have nine players scoring league goals this term, including both full backs, whereas Arthurlie have been heavily reliant on Gary Smith and Petershill on Chris Mackie. N.B.
