On Tuesday, Mobile Area Chamber President and Chief Executive Officer Bill Sisson spoke to members of the Mobile City Council during a public hearing on a petition to overturn the Mobile Planning Commission's approval of Walter Energy's Blue Creek Coal Terminal project. In his comments, Sisson noted several things, including Mobile's successes in economic development and Team Mobile's outstanding reputation around the world as a great place to locate a business.

"This community has been extraordinarily successful at recruiting business to this community in various business sectors - some large, some small; some industrial, some non-industrial. I am here to tell you that the key to that success has been 's, and specifically the Mobile region's track record of doing what we say we will do. I have had site selectors tell me directly, over and over, that Mobile's ability to follow-through has been the deciding factor in choosing Mobile."

Specifically related to the coal terminal project he said, "Consistency is key in economic development. That's why the Chamber supports the established and approved process. If Blue Creek has fulfilled the requirements of the process, it should be granted approval. That's doing what you say you're going to do - and that has been this community's hallmark."

The Mobile City Council decided to layover their decision on the project for two weeks until their May 6 Council meeting. At that time they plan to vote on whether or not to uphold the Planning Commission's ruling.
