EXPLORE – CAMP - PADDLE – LEAD

DAY ONE (HOMEPLACE – GALIANO ISLAND, BC)

9:00 am - 3:00 pm - Pick-up @ YVR Airport (please connect with us regarding your son/daughter’s arrival time) 3:00pm – Local youth to meet in front of River Rock Casino (Richmond) 4:00 pm – Depart for Galiano Island (dinner provided during transportation to HomePlace) 7:00 pm – Arrive at HomePlace, move into tent accommodation & welcoming of youth to World Bound Canada Course. Indigenous acknowledgement 8:00pm – Brief tour of HomePlace and ice breaker activities 9:30 pm – Welcome ceremony (it’s a surprise) 10:30 pm – Lights out

DAY TWO (HOMEPLACE – GALIANO ISLAND, BC)

7:00 am - Wake up, morning exercise & showers 8:30 am – Breakfast and introduction to Galiano Conservancy staff 9:15 am – Tour of HomePlace con’t, swim test, personal gear check, youth receive and review World Bound Canada course booklet and swag bag and send message home 12:00 pm – Lunch 12:45 pm – Paddle board floating classroom and module – participate in team building activities on the ocean, paddleboard lessons, individual goal setting and introduction of 5 pillars of Fireside leadership training. 4:30 pm – Wild Gourmet Cooking Module – meal preparation, planning and safety when exploring the wilderness 5:30 pm – Youth make and serve gourmet wilderness meal 7:00 pm – Risk Management Module (how to be safe and healthy while on course) 8:00 pm – Forest Medicine Walk and Fire Starting Module 10:00/30 pm – Lights out

Issue 27 | 234 DAY THREE (HOMEPLACE – GALIANO ISLAND, BC)

Wake up and breakfast Introduction to “sit spot” and journal writing • Climate Change Education Module One Pack up lunch Bike Touring Module and ride to Mount Galiano Late dinner at HomePlace Sunset activity (i.e. paddle boarding/swim) Lights out

DAY FOUR (HOMEPLACE – GALIANO ISLAND, BC)

Wake up and breakfast Morning session – Climate Change Education and Outdoor Leadership Module Two & Three Lunch Afternoon session - Renewable Energy in Action Module (led by Galiano Conservancy Association) Forest medicine walk Dinner by the ocean and forest 21st Century Leadership Through Different Lens of Perspectives/ Governance 101 Module Surprise night activity

DAY FIVE (UVIC – VICTORIA, VANCOUVER ISLAND, BC)

Wake up early, eat breakfast & pack up lunch and overnight bag Take ferry to Swartz Bay and public transit to University of Victoria Tour UVIC campus and interview post secondary students Team building challenge and group planning activity Afternoon session – Climate Change Education and Outdoor Leadership Module Four & Five Meet professionals working to and addressing climate change Prepare for next day (full day in Victoria)

DAY SIX (UVIC TO HOMEPLACE – GALIANO ISLAND, BC)

Wake up and breakfast Tour Victoria (tour Royal BC Museum and walking tour of old Victoria) Visit BC Legislative and meet with politician Lunch (youth take themselves out for lunch) Catch last Ferry to HomePlace Issue 27 | 234 DAY SEVEN (HOMEPLACE – GALIANO ISLAND, BC)

Sleep in and brunch expedition planning (expedition and personal gear inspection, menu planning completed, river route review, art project supplies packed up, risk management assessment) Journal and personal reflection Continued expedition preparedness Free time in the evening

DAY EIGHT (WHITEHORSE, YUKON HOMEPLACE)

Wake up and breakfast Depart for ferry and travel to YVR (Vancouver International Airport) Afternoon departure for Whitehorse (2.5 hour flight) Arrival in Whitehorse Set up camp at Yukon HomePlace (outside of Whitehorse and staying alongside the Yukon River) Tour Yukon Homeplace Unpack and repack gear and personal equipment Introduction of Yukon Territory and River Paddling Module One

DAY NINE (WHITEHORSE, YUKON HOMEPLACE )

Wake up, morning exercise & clean up • Morning departure for Whitehorse Lunch (youth grab their own lunch in Whitehorse) HomePlace campfire dinner • Outdoor Skills Module One Yukon River Paddling Module Two & Three

DAY TEN (WHITEHORSE, YUKON

HOMEPLACE)

Full day of river paddling practicing, reviewing expedition, journal writing, outdoor skills training and reviewing risk management. Climate Change Education and Outdoor Leadership Module Six and Seven

Issue 27 | 234 DAY ELEVEN (FORT SELKIRK, YUKON)

Early departure to Minto, Yukon Begin paddling Yukon River Arrive at Fort Selkirk & set up camp Meet with Fort Selkirk with welcoming and tour Campfire & Robert Service poems

DAY TWELVE – FOURTEEN (FORT SELKIRK, YUKON)

Participate in four Climate Change Education and Outdoor Leadership Modules Work closely with Fort Selkirk First Nations and conduct a full day cultural and community based project Work closely with local elders in learning traditional ways of knowing Prepare for individual climate expressive art installation

DAY FIFTEEN - NINETEEN (FORT

SELKIRK TO DAWSON CITY, YUKON

Paddle expedition from Fort Selkirk to Dawson City Each student will leave a low impact expressive art installation along the river as part of their arts project regarding climate change Group will work on their course evaluation, leadership reflection notes and complete their course work booklet Enjoy some of the best parts of the Yukon River expedition

DAY TWENTY (DAWSON CITY, YUKON)

End of course of celebration Tour Dawson City Graduation meal Course evaluation completed and booklets submitted

DAY TWENTY- ONE (HOME)

Depart from Dawson City to Vancouver Evening arrival and pick up at YVR

Option – 2 additional days added at the end of the course for international participants to visit Vancouver and sightseeing at additional fee. Youth will stay at residence at local University and will be supervised by an instructor.
