PROFILE: The Black Country LEP works to bring funding to the Black Country to support economic growth and create jobs either by bidding to government on behalf of the area or supporting and partnering other organisations’ bids. Engineering Supply Chain Solutions (Derby City Council)

PROFILE: Engineering Supply Chain Solutions (ESCS) is a collaboration between four partners: Derby City Council, the University of Derby, Aston University and Cranfield University. ESCS offers a range of support services that enable SMEs to win and grow business in their supply chains, particularly those in Derby and the wider East Midlands, operating in or wanting to access the aerospace, automotive or rail sectors. Beneficiary companies will benefit from: • Access to detailed intelligence about opportunities in transport engineering supply chains • Workshops and seminars addressing supply chain issues, solutions and new practices • Advisor assistance to identify action plans to address new market opportunities • Expert support and financial assistance (for collaborative projects and capital equipment purchases) to implement plans

ESCS will work closely with OEMs and supply chain leaders to build and maintain a detailed level of intelligence around the key issues impacting on their supply chains and, as a result, where the business opportunities lie. This intelligence will be used to drive awareness-raising activities with supply chain firms, and to identify a course of action that firms can take to improve their business performance in the supply chain.

ESCS will work with its supply chain clients to implement programmes of action, drawing on available grant aid to help pay for the work and utilising the breadth of expertise available from its University delivery partners. A ‘whole company’ approach will be used to diagnose problems and to develop solutions, drawing on a blend of expertise as required from four core perspectives: • Technology and Innovation for example, the challenges faced in the application of new technologies • Strategic Supply Chain Management for example, the opportunities derived from new business models such as servitisation • Enterprise Creation for example, diversifying into new markets • Workforce Development for example, learning how to work with new manufacturing methods.

The Green Bridge Supply Chain Programme
