About Graduate Liberal Graduate Liberal Studies Studies at Georgetown at Georgetown At numerous intervals, over the past several years, media pundits and others have claimed that the value of a liberal arts education was on the decline. Many, including myself and other Liberal Studies graduates, have strenuously objected to this assertion, though it still seems to Editor find an audience. On August 27th, I was perusing the Financial Times and saw an article entitled Sandra Vieira “A Manifesto for the New Rules on Human Capital” authored by long-time management expert, Tom Peters. In sum, the article proposed that due to the changing nature of work, technology and Writers global processes, human capital and employment must be invested in by redirecting the current Frank Ambrosio educational infrastructure to support creative work. One of the keys to this shift from generic “brain- Anne Ridder work” to “creative work” according to Tom Peters is,”…leaders will need to be masters of the liberal Anthony Tambasco arts – a clear-cut determinant of responding to the universal need to pursue creative work.” Sandra Vieira On October 12th, Graduate Liberal Studies will host “Circuitous Roots,” an event that show- cases only a modest fraction of the large pool of artistic talent and abilities exhibited by Graduate Photographers Liberal Studies. Many of the artists/alumni credit their liberal arts education in the Liberal Studies Rodney Fisher Program for prompting their interest in the arts and awakening their creative talent. Dr. Percy North Anne Ridder will give a presentation entitled “Art, Values and the Liberal Arts” followed by “meet the artists” and Gallery walk.
