ATHLETIC DIRECTOR

On behalf of the Hinds Community College athletic department, I want to welcome you to our college. Hinds is the largest community college in the state, and we also have the largest sports program of any community college. Our teams compete year in and year out for state and regional titles, and our coaching staff brings a wide variety of success in every single sport. This year marks the beginning of women’s cross country and track in our athletic program. This is an exciting time with the addition to our women’s sports. Hinds continues to dominate in the area of academic achievement among athletes. Since 1987, we have received the David Halbrook Award 11 times. This award is given to the community/junior college with the highest percentage of graduates or completers in its athletic program. Prior to the Homecoming game with Jones County Junior College on Sept. 25 we will honor our class of 2008 inductees in the Hinds Sports Hall of Fame. Please make your plans now to be a part of these activities and celebrations. On Oct. 16 we plan to honor three alumni championship teams: the 1978 softball team, 1988 football team and 1998 women’s soccer team. All three of these teams won state championships in their respective sports. Please continue to help us reconnect with our Hinds athletic alumni through our Athletic Alumni Newsletter. We hope this newsletter keeps former athletes informed on all things related to Hinds sports. It is my hope that you enjoy watching our teams and continue to support Hinds athletics throughout the year.
