FRIDAY, 14 APRIL, 2017 CHAMPAGNE TOAST FOR INVADER ASCOT ASSIGNMENT The third and final leg of the 2-year-old Triple Crown, the FOR JACK HOBBS G1 Champagne S. (1600m) on Saturday at Randwick, sees a field of 10 line up which, outside of a few runners, lacks the depth of a Group 1 contest. Last-start G1 Sires= Produce S. winner Invader (Aus) (Snitzel {Aus}) is the class runner of the field and has an undeniable chance of being the only juvenile this season to record dual Group 1 victories. Invader is already assured a lucrative position at stud upon his retirement from racing with an ownership group including Newgate Farm, Aquis Farm, China Horse Club and WinStar Farm, and another Group 1 on his resume will further increase his appeal as a multiple Group 1-winning son of one of the hottest stallions in the country. Aiming to complete the Listed Fernhill S./G1 Champagne S. double for consecutive years, James Cummings will saddle up lightly raced filly Whispered Secret (Aus) (High Chaparral {Ire}), a close relation to Cummings=s Prized Icon (Aus) (More Than Ready), a winner of the double 12 months prior. My father was always very interested in the industry as he bred five or six flat mares every year, so I was fortunate enough to be around Thoroughbreds for as long as I can remember. When I was young my father, brother, a few friends and I would take a road trip every year to go look at the stallions in Kildare, Cork and Tipperary. I always had an affinity for and loved the industry. I enjoyed working hands on, on our stud and I was lucky to learn horsemanship from a very young age as we did everything from foaling through to sales consignment of our own foals. We are still working hard to build their vision, and many of my days now include construction planning, budgeting, scheduling and working closely with our contractors. Luckily, we have a great team at Margaux and my main role is overseeing our key staff. I try to put the right people in the right roles so as a team we can do our absolute best by our clients. Thankfully with the strong team around me my main role comes down to looking after them and communicating with our clients and the owners.
