Ascot Assignment for Jack Hobbs FRIDAY, 14 APRIL, 2017 CHAMPAGNE TOAST FOR INVADER ASCOT ASSIGNMENT The third and final leg of the 2-year-old Triple Crown, the FOR JACK HOBBS G1 Champagne S. (1600m) on Saturday at Randwick, sees a field of 10 line up which, outside of a few runners, lacks the depth of a Group 1 contest. Last-start G1 Sires= Produce S. winner Invader (Aus) (Snitzel {Aus}) is the class runner of the field and has an undeniable chance of being the only juvenile this season to record dual Group 1 victories. Invader is already assured a lucrative position at stud upon his retirement from racing with an ownership group including Newgate Farm, Aquis Farm, China Horse Club and WinStar Farm, and another Group 1 on his resume will further increase his appeal as a multiple Group 1-winning son of one of the hottest stallions in the country. Aiming to complete the Listed Fernhill S./G1 Champagne S. double for consecutive years, James Cummings will saddle up lightly raced filly Whispered Secret (Aus) (High Chaparral {Ire}), a close relation to Cummings=s Prized Icon (Aus) (More Than Ready), a winner of the double 12 months prior. SUNDAY, 24 JULY, 2016 SNITZEL EQUALS 40-YEAR-OLD RECORD HIGHLAND REEL WIRES By Kelsey Riley THE KING GEORGE Leading Australian sire Snitzel (Aus) (Redoute=s Choice {Aus}) reached a significant milestone on Saturday when Bukzel (Aus) became his 30th 2-year-old winner of the season when taking a Newcastle maiden on debut for trainers Peter and Paul Snowden. That win saw Snitzel tie the record for number of juvenile winners in a single season for an Australian sire, held by Without Fear (Fr), which has stood for 40 years. Twenty-nine of those winners have come in Australia and one in South Africa: the exciting Mike de Kock-trained colt Heavenly Blue (Aus). Snitzel stands at Arrowfield Stud, where he will command a fee of A$110,000 this year, and that operation=s Chairman John Messara said, "Snitzel's progeny are precocious, but his 2-year- olds of this year have been something else; we're thrilled with Snitzel's achievements." • Enable Electric in King George Cont
SUNDAY, 30 JULY, 2017 The King George took on an entirely different shape as the ENABLE ELECTRIC heavy rain fell on already-deadened ground. Despite the Epsom Oaks being staged in a thunderstorm, the latest Juddmonte IN KING GEORGE sensation had it slick there as she readily turned back Rhododendron (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) on June 2 and it was even quicker as she completed the double in the Irish equivalent two weeks prior to this. Tactics were certain to play a significant part here, with her potentially tricky draw in seven leaving her vulnerable to early scrimmaging, but Frankie was happy to let her bounce out and put her head in front until Maverick Wave crossed over to provide the lead. With Highland Reel (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) for company as they ignored the pacemaker, Enable settled perfectly and had stablemate Jack Hobbs (GB) (Halling) behind along with Idaho as Ulysses travelled with his customary ease and Jim Crowley tracked their every move. • Welcome to the June 2015 Edition of the Donn Mcclean Racing Newsletter
Welcome to the June 2015 edition of the Donn McClean Racing Newsletter. Royal Ascot review Where to start with a review of Royal Ascot? There were some outstanding equine performances, like Solow’s in the Queen Anne Stakes, Time Test’s in the Tercentenary Stakes and Muhaarar’s in the Commonwealth Cup. And there was extraordinary human endeavour. Just about every single horse that Aidan O’Brien ran put up a performance that either surpassed or equalled its best previous performance. The champion trainer had five winners, and if the ball had hopped a little differently, he could have had six or seven. Ryan Moore had nine, more than any other rider in the post-war era. Moore has set the bar high, and he continues to raise it higher and higher. If there is such a thing as the best flat rider in the world, then Ryan Moore is it. There were other equine performances that might have been better than the bare form suggests, and which therefore may provide betting angles for the future. Bronze Angel did well to finish as close as he did in the Royal Hunt Cup given that he raced prominently from early in a race that was run to suit the hold-up horses, as the Royal Hunt Cup usually is. The Corsican made eye-catching ground from the rear in the Prince of Wales’s Stakes in a race in which the early pace held up well. Udododontu went for home very early in the Britannia, his turn of foot deployed just a little early in a race run over a stiff straight mile for a horse whose optimum trip is probably seven and a half furlongs.

Ascot Racecourse Media Release for immediate release, Tuesday, July 25, 2017 Ulysses late dash for glory in Saturday's King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Sponsored by QIPCO) Ulysses, who re-opposes his G1 Prince of Wales's Stakes conqueror Highland Reel in the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Sponsored by QIPCO), will be held up as long as possible in a bid to reverse the placings at Ascot on Saturday, July 29. Alan Cooper, racing manager to the Niarchos Family which owns Ulysses, said today: "In the Prince Of Wales's Stakes, maybe Ulysses thought job done when he hit the front, and we had to hold him up a bit more. "Jim Crowley did that when Ulysses won the Eclipse but even then he said to me 'I would have liked to have been more patient'. "As a horse matures, you learn more about him and what tactics he is comfortable with. A daring ride is the way it looks like." This was revealed today when QIPCO and Ascot Racecourse hosted a media event this afternoon ahead of the 2017 King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes (Sponsored by QIPCO), which is Britain's premier all-aged middle-distance contest and boasts a prize fund of £1.15-million. Ulysses is out to give trainer Sir Michael Stoute an unprecedented sixth win in the Ascot race, with his previous success coming with runaway winner Harbinger in 2010. It was Ulysses who provided Stoute with his sixth G1 Eclipse Stakes earlier this month when beating Barney Roy by a nose.

  • Epsom Derby & Oaks
Marten Julian’s Epsom Derby & Oaks ONLINE PREVIEW Friday 5 June The Investec Oaks (1m 4f) (4.30) Writing this on Thursday I am assuming the ground will be riding good for the start of the meeting. The going was on the soft side earlier in the week, but temperatures are set to rise and conditions could be quick by Friday unless the forecast thunderstorms hit the course. If they do, then they could bring up to 5mm of rain, which would ease the ground to good to soft, if not softer. There is nothing more frustrating in an analysis of form than a late change in ground conditions, so this uncertainty has to be factored into my preview. Visually the most impressive performance I have seen has come from Crystal Zvezda when she won a Listed trial stakes at Newbury in May. Rated just 78 at the time, on the strength of her maiden win at Lingfield in October, she beat the 98-rated Montalcino going away by three and a half lengths, with 90-rated Pamona half a length back in third. On figures she ran to a mark of around 103, 4lb lower than her new mark of 107. Crystal Zvezda won the race in the manner of a very talented filly. Last in the early stages and still with a wall of horses in front of her a quarter of a mile from home, she was switched approaching the final furlong and in just a couple of strides went clear of her rivals to win with loads in hand.

The son of Sea The Stars could bid to become the 13th colt to complete the Derby/King George double in the same season and the first since Galileo in 2001. Aidan O'Brien, Ireland's champion Flat trainer, accounts for 12 entries in total, the most of any handler. His possibles, besides Found, include Minding, who took her Group One tally to four in the British Classic, the Investec Oaks, at Epsom Downs on Saturday, June 4, Gold Cup favourite Order Of St George, globe-trotting dual Group One winner Highland Reel and impressive French 2,000 Guineas victor The Gurkha.
