Our 2016 Annual Fundraiser is over and it was a great success …

Another outstanding Fundraiser has taken place … let it be known a GREAT time was had by all! This event continues to grow in size and success and that is due to the volunteers who work so hard in getting everything readied and those of you who solicit donations for the event, all of which benefits our charities more and more! We will publish the proceeds from the Fundraiser in our May newsletter after all sales have been tallied, so stay tuned! We ask you to please continue to patronize the businesses of our donors as they are so vital to the success of our fundraiser (a complete list of donors starts on page 8). Since we only have the April and May luncheons remaining for this season before our summer sabbatical, please make plans to join us for one or both of these luncheons. Details about the April luncheon is directly below. The May luncheon date is listed under SAVE THE DATE on page 3.

FOUNDER AND PRESIDENT of LDF Carole Lovelace, [email protected] ~ (504) 598.5673 www.ladiesdayfund.com

Last month I wrote of my sincere appreciation for Lori Weber-Nesz who opened her home for a luncheon to benefit Ladies Day Fund as well as my appreciation for Marion Beckett and Gloria Walker who helped with the event. That day after the luncheon LDF received over $2,000 in donations and membership dues. Since the luncheon, more money has been sent to us because of what people learned of LDF that day ... proceeds are now over $4,000. We are overjoyed and so fortunate for what Lori, Marion and Gloria accomplished in spreading our word ... many, many thanks!! Ladies Day is truly all about caring “sky sisters and brothers” and why we continue to exist. In February I told you of a single lady dealing with stage 4 cancer who, with our help, was able to make her holidays a little brighter. April 2016 ~ THE BRIEFING SHEET Page 5 of 11 Although the name Ladies Day Fund may be misleading, we help both women and men. This past month we helped a single male flight attendant dealing with serious cancer. He has custody of a young son and with being off work for a long time has been struggling with a heavy financial burden which created a lot of stress in his and his son’s life. The following is an excerpt from a note he sent to me: “You are Angels sent from above. I am so thankful and appreciative for Ladies Day and your kindness. Bless you a thousand more times! You have just made my life a lot easier and nicer and have reduced a lot of stress for me. Full speed ahead with healing! Take care my friends and thanks again so very much.” Again, I thank all who have given their generous support to LDF so these caring gifts can continue ... we really do care!! Sincerely, Carole

The Delta Flight Museum wants you! Volunteers are needed for surplus sales, events, tour docents and guest relations. If interested, please contact Judy Bean, Manager Surplus Sales and Volunteers | Delta Flight Museum, at [email protected] for more information (email only, please).

MY THOUGHTS FOR APRIL Oh please, as I age, don’t let me be one of those whiney older folks who seem to complain about everything. We’ve spent some time in a state further south than where I ran into many older people. Okay, some were pretty much my age, but they complained about almost everything … the weather, politics (well, I do admit that’s a “complainable” subject), food prices, traffic, their neighbors, their aches and pains. Okay, so everybody I ran into wasn’t a complainer, but why is it complainers seem to draw so much attention? Is it because we, as current/former flight attendants, are ready ears and trained to listen to any and all complaints? Or is it because we’re attuned to the whiners because we share and identify with many of their complaints? To me, it doesn’t particularly matter; I just don’t want to get old(er) and be one of the complainers. Okay, so I’m happy here in my little Pollyanna world, where the sun always shines and it only rains at night (at least metaphorically) and everyone in my life has a positive attitude. So I may be dreaming, but it’s my little world bubble. Do you recall how it was to have a complainer as a crew member? That person who worked to dampen the enthusiasm and good spirits of virtually everyone … it was amazing how quickly it occurred. You may also recall how it was to have a positive crew member who brightened the day for everyone and how much more uplifted you felt being around them. I want to be a positive person as I age. I want to be remembered as someone who brought cheer to family and friends. I will endeavor to do that by staying as positive as possible, by surrounding myself with like-minded, positive thinkers and try to read only positive things … with the occasional scandalous novel thrown in . I trust you will do April 2016 ~ THE BRIEFING SHEET Page 6 of 11 likewise. And if, per chance, you find me in a negative mood, please return me to my Pollyanna world … the people there know and understand me. Oh Lord, please don’t let me be “old-minded.” It’s okay, Lord, to age me, just don’t let me sink into whininess and complaining as I just don’t think the world needs another whiney person. ‘Til next time … Stay positive! Ann

It decreased her check processing by almost 300!  It is a MONUMENTAL BALANCING ACT for Alva to process online reservations and collect checks from the PO Box to accommodate everyone fairly.  KUDOs to Alva for monitoring the count so she could notify us when we were reaching our luncheon capacity.  We had to close the online reservation form a day early so Alva could accommodate any check payments that had yet to be collected from the PO Box.  WE APOLOGIZE to anyone who was inconvenienced toward the online deadline date of March 10 for making reservations!  Alva worked very diligently to accommodate our last minute reservations … THANK YOU, ALVA!!!! DON’T FORGET … WE HAVE AN ONLINE DIRECTORY
