Mission statement of St John’s Cathedral ‘St John’s Cathedral is a place of God’s grace, welcoming all, following Christ and changing lives in the heart of .’

• Built in 1849, The Cathedral of St John the Evangelist is one of the oldest churches in Hong Kong and the mother church of the of Hong Kong Island, Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui. It is centrally located in the financial and administrative hub of Asia’s financial centre and the gateway to China.

• Guided by the above mission statement, St John’s Cathedral is an international church community offering a wide variety of worship, outreach and nurture programmes to the community.

• The Cathedral is governed by the Trust Ordinance.

• Besides the daily Eucharist, over 2200 worshippers gather every weekend with nine services conducted in English, Mandarin, and Tagalog. In addition, services are held at the three daughter churches at Discovery Bay, Stanley (St. Stephen’s Chapel) and Pokfulam (Emmanuel).

• It has an active Sunday School with 150 children in registration.

• A variety of nurture programmes are held on a regular basis throughout the year for Christians and non-Christians of all ages, led by lay people and clergy.

• The Cathedral is the centre of the liturgical life in the Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui and has a long-standing and rich sacred music tradition.

• The Cathedral serves more than 30,000 people annually through the following outreach programmes: St. John’s Counselling Service; Castaways; HELP for Domestic Workers; Life Enrichment Centre; CLARES women’s group; The Mission for Migrant Workers; The Cathedral Bookstore; the Poverty Alleviation Programme and the Prison Ministry. It also supports more than 40 local charities.

• The Cathedral has close links with and offers ministry to various schools.
