Star Wars Movies on Netflix STAR WARS MOVIES ON NETFLIX 1. Star Wars The Clone Wars (movie) – As more star systems get swept into the Clone Wars, the valiant Jedi knights struggle to maintain order. Anakin Skywalker and his Padawan learner Ahsoka Tano embark on a mission that brings them face-to-face with Jabba the Hutt. 2. Star Wars The Clone Wars (series) – The first weekly TV series from Lucasfilm Animation chronicles the adventures of Anakin Skywalker, Yoda, Obi-Wan Kenobi and other popular characters from the “Star Wars” universe during the violent Clone Wars, as dwindling numbers of Jedi knights struggle to restore peace. 3. Jedi Junior High – In 2009, students of all walks of life at the Arts & Learning Children’s Conservatory in Anaheim, CA set out to produce their own live musical parody version of Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back (1980), as interpreted through their young talents. Follow the young actors, artists, musicians (and a few supervising adults) as they audition, rehearse and perform their take on this classic film. 4. I Am Your Father – David Prowse was a bodybuilder and actor who famously portrayed the role of Darth Vader. However, unlike most Star Wars stars, he was relatively obscure since James Earl Jones dubbed Vader’s voice. The story begins when a young filmmaker travels to London to propose that Prowse reshoot scenes from the trilogy. Their goal was to prove that Prowse could have played Darth Vader in that particular scene. In a symbolic way, the director, assisted by a group of enthusiastic fans, will try to give Prowse the recognition he never had. In this documentary, the directors will find some clues about the difficult relationship between Prowse and Lucasfilm. Apparently, the reason for their differences was an article published by a British newspaper during the shooting of Return of the Jedi. 5. Elstree 1976 – This 2015 documentary film is about the making of the original Star Wars film and the legacy that it left behind. • How Star Wars Illuminates Constitutional Law
HOW STAR WARS ILLUMINATES CONSTITUTIONAL LAW † CASS R. SUNSTEIN ABSTRACT: Human beings often see coherence and planned design when neither exists. This is so in movies, literature, history, economics, and psychoanalysis – and constitutional law. Contrary to the repeated claims of George Lucas, its principal author, the Star Wars series was hardly planned in advance; it involved a great deal of improvisation and surprise, even to Lucas himself. Serendipity and happenstance, sometimes in the forms of eruptions of new thinking, play a pervasive and overlooked role in the creative imagination, certainly in single authored works, and even more in multi-authored ones extending over time. Serendipity imposes serious demands on the search for coherence in art, literature, history, and law. That search leads many people (including Lucas) to misdescribe the nature of their own creativity and authorship. The misdescription appears to respond to a serious human need for sense-making and pattern-finding, but it is a significant obstacle to understanding and critical reflection. Whether Jedi or Sith, many authors of constitutional law are a lot like the author of Star Wars, disguising the essential nature of their own creative processes. KEYWORDS: Serendipity; Judicial Interpretation; Supreme Court; Chain Novel; Originalism. RESUMO: Os seres humanos frequentemente identificam coerência e planejamento quando nenhum desses elementos sequer existe. Tal situação ocorre nos filmes, na Literatura, na História, na Economia e na † Robert Walmsley University Professor, Harvard University. • James Earl Jones
James Earl Jones “This is CNN.” “If you only knew the power of the Dark Side.” “Welcome to Verizon.” ”Simba, Remember.” One of the most memorable voices in the entertainment industry belongs to a young man born in Arkabutla, Mississippi in 1931 during the Great Depression. His parents separated before he was born, so he was raised by his maternal grandparents. At age five the family moved to a farm in rural Dublin, Michigan. Interestingly, he is of Irish, African-American and Native American decent. One day he stood up to recite in Sunday School and was so nervous the other children made fun of him. This episode coupled with the dramatic adaptation to a new environment was so traumatic he became afraid to speak aloud. He developed a severe stutter and refused to speak even at home. Jones later commented, “I was a stutterer. I couldn't talk. So my first year of school was my first mute year, and then those mute years continued until I got to high school.” Jones was functionally mute for 8 years until a high school teacher, Donald Crouch, decided to bring him out of his shell. He made James recite a report he had written before the class under the guise of proving he had actually authored it himself. Crouch pushed James to take drama lessons, participating in the debate team and won an award in public speaking over the next few years. The award’s prize was a scholarship to the University of Michigan. When James entered the University of Michigan he intended to study medicine, but he found himself attracted to drama and the theater.

Kids love it. Adults love it. Girls love it! I have two daughters who are die-hard Star Wars fans and they are not the only ones. So why is it that it has formed such a cult following? Marketing plays a big role and we all know that Disney knows how to do that well. But all the marketing in the world wouldn’t be able to create such a following if the story or characters didn’t appeal to the human heart. When George Lucas developed Star Wars, he was influenced by world religions and mythology. That influence is clearly seen through the Star Wars saga. There is a religious construct to the Jedi, for example, and allusions to religious stories and characters. I believe that Star Wars appeals to so many for the same reason religion appeals to so many — we were made to worship God and deep down, whether we are Christian or not, we know that there is a battle raging between the forces of good and evil.

The Force Awakens vs. The Prequels, or: So this is how personal expression dies, to thunderous applause January 7th, 2016 | by rickworley Posted In: Blogs http://www.rickworley.com/2016/01/07/the-force-awakens-vs-the-prequels-or-so-this-is-how- personal-expression-dies-to-thunderous-applause/ Spoilers for all seven Star Wars films 1- The Auteur Theory “The auteur theory of film actually is very true if you know directors, because they are very much like their movies. And in the case of somebody who writes and directs, you know, it is my life. I mean, everything I write is my life, I’m not writing some sort of hypothetical thesis on something, I’m writing a story that I have to get extremely emotionally involved in because it’s going to take two or three years of my life to do it. So I can’t just sort of say, ‘Oh this will be fun,’ and knock it off in a week. This is like a marriage … you have to be in love with this thing for at least four or five years, and probably for the rest of your life” –George Lucas 1 In the run up to The Force Awakens, I couldn’t even begin to count how many times I’ve seen people saying, Oh thank God that George Lucas won’t be involved. It’s been a popular notion for some time now that Star Wars needed to be saved from George Lucas. It took me a long time to work out how people could seriously think something so nonsensical.

  • 5 Real-Life Star Wars Technologies Invented by Dod Scientists
My Account My Applications Log Out DEC 12, 2017 | BY TROY CARTER 5 real-life Star Wars technologies invented by DoD scientists Created in defense laboratories, these real life Star Wars technologies are also available to businesses for product development Storm Troopers via Pixabay The latest film in the Star Wars saga, “The Last Jedi,” opens this weekend. And to help fans understand how close the scientists and engineers working inside defense laboratories have brought us to that starry future we’ve compiled this list of five real life star wars technologies from our database. BB-8 and R2-D2 (via Pixabay) 1. Rolling Robots R2-D2, an astromech droid, saved the rebellion’s hopes of disabling the Death Star by escaping with its blueprints and eventually carrying them to Luke Skywalker. In “The Force Awakens” Star Wars fans met another astromech welding droid named BB-8, whose head sits atop a rolling ball. Well, if droids could think, there’d be none of us here, would there?” —Obi- Wan Kenobi “But did you know that BB-8’s mobility is similar to an actual, real-life Navy invention called the High-velocity Spherical Microbot. Inside, the microbot uses two servomotors that are oriented orthogonal to each other. They power rubberized traction balls that touch the interior surface of the housing causing the ball to roll. The Navy inventors also included a mechanical plunger that strikes the inside of the housing, which lets the microbot hop over obstacles while carrying a variety of sensors. TechLink’s Joan Wu-Singel has the details for businesses interested in commercializing the Navy’s microbot.

  • STAR WARS Roger Ebert (Chicago Sun Times, January 1, 1977)
STAR WARS Roger Ebert (Chicago Sun Times, January 1, 1977) Cast Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker , Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia , Harrison Ford as Han Solo, Alec Guinness as Obi-Wan Kenobi , David Prowse as Darth Vader , James Earl Jones as Vader's Voice , Kenny Baker as R2D2 , Anthony Daniels as C3PO Directed by George Lucas, Produced by Gary Kurtz, Screenplay by Lucas, Rated PG 121 minutes Every once in a while I have what I think of as an out-of-the-body experience at a movie. When the ESP people use a phrase like that, they're referring to the sensation of the mind actually leaving the body and spiriting itself off to China or Peoria or a galaxy far, far away. When I use the phrase, I simply mean that my imagination has forgotten it is actually present in a movie theater and thinks it's up there on the screen. In a curious sense, the events in the movie seem real, and I seem to be a part of them. "Star Wars" works like that. My list of other out-of-the-body films is a short and odd one, ranging from the artistry of "Bonnie and Clyde" or "Cries and Whispers" to the slick commercialism of "Jaws" and the brutal strength of "Taxi Driver." On whatever level (sometimes I'm not at all sure) they engage me so immediately and powerfully that I lose my detachment, my analytical reserve. The movie's happening, and it's happening to me. What makes the "Star Wars" experience unique, though, is that it happens on such an innocent and often funny level.

Star Wars By Matt Zoller Seitz “The A List: The National Society of Film Critics’ 100 Essential Films,” 2002 Reprinted by permission of the author Of all the films of the 1970s, none was more influen- tial than “Star Wars.” Other landmark works from that era could rightly claim to be more complex, more challenging, more adult, but none could claimed to be more widely seen and enjoyed. (Many saw it more than once.) This mythic adventure about a gee- whiz farm boy rescuing a princess and saving the galaxy proved that a primitive fairy tale with high-tech effects could thrill moviegoers the world over, regard- less of language, cultural difference, even age. It made stars outs of its unknown leads — Mark Hamill, Carrie Fischer, Harrison Ford — and spawned a spinoff industry peddling tie-in merchandise, from toys and T-shirts to comic books and trading cards. It introduced new visual effects and sound technology that would change how films were produced. Its un- precedented financial success — the top grossing film of all time with $250 million in box office and $1 billion in merchandising — convinced the studios to abandon their old financial model, wherein lots of money was earned by lots of films, and embrace a new model, wherein ever-increasing amounts of money and effort were devoted to developing more movies like “Star Wars.
