  • Offensive Against the Syrian City of Manbij May Be the Beginning of a Campaign to Liberate the Area Near the Syrian-Turkish Border from ISIS
June 23, 2016 Offensive against the Syrian City of Manbij May Be the Beginning of a Campaign to Liberate the Area near the Syrian-Turkish Border from ISIS Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) fighters at the western entrance to the city of Manbij (Fars, June 18, 2016). Overview 1. On May 31, 2016, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), a Kurdish-dominated military alliance supported by the United States, initiated a campaign to liberate the northern Syrian city of Manbij from ISIS. Manbij lies west of the Euphrates, about 35 kilometers (about 22 miles) south of the Syrian-Turkish border. In the three weeks since the offensive began, the SDF forces, which number several thousand, captured the rural regions around Manbij, encircled the city and invaded it. According to reports, on June 19, 2016, an SDF force entered Manbij and occupied one of the key squares at the western entrance to the city. 2. The declared objective of the ground offensive is to occupy Manbij. However, the objective of the entire campaign may be to liberate the cities of Manbij, Jarabulus, Al-Bab and Al-Rai, which lie to the west of the Euphrates and are ISIS strongholds near the Turkish border. For ISIS, the loss of the area is liable to be a severe blow to its logistic links between the outside world and the centers of its control in eastern Syria (Al-Raqqah), Iraq (Mosul). Moreover, the loss of the region will further 112-16 112-16 2 2 weaken ISIS's standing in northern Syria and strengthen the military-political position and image of the Kurdish forces leading the anti-ISIS ground offensive.

  • Springboks and All Blacks Seek Psychological Blow
Sports FRIDAY, OCTOBER 4, 2013 Genia’s yo-yo Photo of the day season takes an upward turn ROSARIO: Australia scrum-half Will Genia’s yo-yo season took an upward turn when he was recalled for tomorrow’s Rugby Championship Test in Argentina. Genia comes in for Nic White in the only change to the starting line-up from that beaten 28- 8 by South Africa in Cape Town last weekend. White drops to the bench for the wooden-spoon showdown at Estadio Gigante de Arroyito in Rosario, 300 kilometers north west of Buenos Aires. There is also one change among the replacements with utility back Bernard Foley coming in for Chris Feauai-Sautia, scorer of the Wallaby try against the Springboks. Papua New Guinea-born Genia, 25, has skippered Australia this year in the absence of injured lock James Horwill. But he was axed by coach Ewen McKenzie after leading the Wallabies in a humili- ating 26-point drubbing by South Africa in Brisbane. White impressed sufficiently to stay on the pitch for the full 80 minutes as Australia squeezed a 14-13 home win over the Pumas in a dour duel. But his field-kicking came unstuck in Cape Town and the Wallabies fared far better when Genia came on for the second half. McKenzie, a Super Rugby title- winning coach with the Queensland Reds, replaced New Zealander Robbie Deans after a 2-1 series loss to the British and Irish Lions. But the former Wallaby prop has experienced a baptism of fire with home and away reverses against the New Zealand All Blacks and the Springboks.

PRESS STATEMENT OASIS STICKS WITH VODACOM BULLS AND BLUE BULLS WINNING FORMULA Cape Town 25th February 2010 –Oasis Group Holdings has signed a multi-million rand landmark deal with the Vodacom Super 14 champions the Bulls for another five years. The asset management company announced that the Vodacom Bulls were once again their number one choice after what they described as a fruitful partnership. As the only black owned and managed company to sponsor a Super 14 rugby team, Oasis Group represents the front line of rugby transformation. “We decided to continue the relationship with the Bulls because as a winning brand we want to be associated with another winning brand and there is no better product in South African rugby than the Bulls. Five years ago we had the vision and foresight to bet on the Bulls. Now looking back on the wonderful rewards that relationship has afforded us and the success of the Bulls franchise, we know that we made the right decision,” says Nazeem Ebrahim, Oasis Marketing Director. The Blue Bulls have one of the better transformation records of any rugby union and as well the winning record. Springbok Kitchen: Celebrating the love of food, family and rugby Duane Heath Click here if your download doesn"t start automatically Springbok Kitchen: Celebrating the love of food, family and rugby Duane Heath Springbok Kitchen: Celebrating the love of food, family and rugby Duane Heath Springbok Kitchen is a visual celebration of South Africans’ love of food and all things rugby, presented here in the favourite recipes of 40 past and present Springbok rugby legends. Swapping their jerseys for aprons, some of the most famous men to have worn the green and gold – including John Smit, Kobus Wiese, Victor Matfield, Wynand Claassen, Fourie du Preez, Jan ‘Boland’ Coetzee, Bryan Habana, Chester Williams, Morné du Plessis and Bakkies Botha – lift the lid on their love of food. Away from the field, and the glare of the television cameras, Springbok Kitchen takes you into the players’ homes and hearts, to paint an intimate portrait of the role that food plays in their private lives. But Springbok Kitchen isn’t only about the recipes of our rugby heroes – it’s a uniquely South African story of how food brings old rugby friends and complete strangers together around braais, skottels and kitchen tables all across this beautiful land.
