NOTES FOR TONIGHT Best Postseason Start in League History Vegas owns an 8-2 record through its first 10 playoff games – the best record through a franchise’s first 10 postseason contests in NHL history. Only two other clubs have required fewer than 14 games to record their eighth all-time playoff win: Florida needed 11 games to win each of their first two series en route to an appearance in the 1996 Stanley Cup Final and Buffalo won eight of their first 13 playoff games from 1973 to 1975.

Vegas Makes More History After Second Round Victory Over San Jose The Golden Knights became just the third franchise in NHL history to win multiple series in its inaugural season. The first postseason in League history saw the Toronto Arenas win the 1918 NHL Final, a two-game total-goals series, by a 10-7 margin against the before defeating the Pacific Coast Hockey Association’s Vancouver Millionaires to win the Stanley Cup. In 1968, the St. Louis Blues defeated the Philadelphia Flyers and Minnesota North Stars to emerge from the all-expansion West Division and advance to the Stanley Cup Final.

Golden Knights Complete NHL History With First Round Sweep The Vegas Golden Knights became just the third team from the NHL, NBA and MLB to complete a four-game sweep to win their first- ever playoff series – and the first to do so in their inaugural season. The Pittsburgh Penguins achieved the feat in 1970 (vs. Oakland Seals), their third season in the NHL, and the MLB’s Boston Braves did so in 1914 (vs. Philadelphia Athletics), their 39th season as a franchise and the 11th in which the MLB crowned a World Series champion. Only one other team has swept a best-of-seven series at any point in their first-ever postseason: the NBA’s Portland Trail Blazers in 1977 (vs. Los Angeles Lakers), their seventh NBA campaign. The Golden Knights’ sweep is not only the first of its kind for a professional team in its inaugural season, but also a rare feat for any club in the Stanley Cup Playoffs over the past 10 years. Only 12.5% of series have ended after four games since 2009.

Fleury Lights Out In Series-Clinching Situations Marc-Andre Fleury made 28 saves for the Vegas Golden Knights en route to a 3-0 series-clinching win over the San Jose Sharks in the Second Round, registering his third straight shutout in a potential series-clinching game, following a 4-0 victory over the Los Angeles Kings in Round 1 and a 2-0 victory with the Penguins in Game 7 of the 2017 Second Round at Washington. It was also his fourth career series-clinching shutout overall, trailing only Chris Osgood (5) for the most by a goaltender in NHL history.

Fleury (Still) In Fine Form During Stanley Cup Playoffs The win over the Sharks in Game 6 was Marc-Andre Fleury’s 70th career playoff win, making him the 10th goaltender in league history to have 70 career postseason wins. Overall he has made a playoff best 327 saves on 344 shots in 10 postseason games this year for a save percentage of .951. He has recorded 14 career postseason shutouts and moved into a tie for sixth place on the NHL’s all-time postseason shutouts list. The Sorel, Quebec native is the first goaltender to record four shutouts in a single postseason since 2011, when Vancouver’s Roberto Luongo and Boston’s Tim Thomas each registered four. Fleury has a 8-2 record with a 1.53 goals- against average and started the and started the 2018 Stanley Cup Playoffs with a five-game winning streak. It was his third win streak of at least five games within a playoff year. The others came with the Penguins en route to appearances in the Stanley Cup Final: 7-0 in 2008 and 5-0 in 2009.

Marchessault, Smith and Karlsson In Rare Air The line of Jonathan Marchessault (4-7—11), Reilly Smith (1-10—11) and William Karlsson (4-6—10) combined for the opening goal in Game 6 against the San Jose Sharks and are the top three point producers for the Vegas Golden Knights in the 2018 Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Golden Knights became the third franchise in NHL history to feature three players with at least 10 points apiece through the first 10 games of its inaugural postseason, joining the New York Islanders in 1975 (Jude Drouin, J.P. Parise, Ed Westfall ) and Mighty Ducks of Anaheim in 1997 (Paul Kariya, Dmitri Mironov, Teemu Selanne).

EXPANSION DRAFT SELECTION AND WINNIPEG CONNECTIONS -The Golden Knights selected forward Chris Thorburn from the Winnipeg Jets during the Expansion Draft on June 21. Thorburn signed with the St. Louis Blues on July 1 after becoming a free agent -Golden Knights forwards Cody Eakin and Ryan Reaves hail from Winnipeg -Golden Knights Executive Vice President, Assistant General Manager Kelly McCrimmon is from Brandon, Manitoba and owner of the WHL’s Brandon Wheat Kings
