Ultimate Anti-Doping Policy Canada acts to foster goodwill and sportsmanship in accordance with the spirit of the game of Ultimate. To ensure that the integrity and values of the sport are intact, provides a policy that addresses the protection of the Ultimate community from the unethical practice of doping.

Ultimate Canada endorses and adopts the Canadian Anti-Doping Program (CADP) as developed and issued by the Canadian Centre For Ethics In Sport. This program is in accordance with the World Anti-Doping Code as developed by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). Therefore Ultimate Canada has developed an anti-doping policy that complies with Sport Canada and is on par with National Sport Organizations in Canada. It further adheres to the policy of the World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF), of which Ultimate Canada is a member organization. WFDF rules are compliant with the WADA Code.

A copy of the Canadian Anti-Doping Program is available for viewing or downloading at: http://www.cces.ca/en/antidoping/cadp

This Program sets out procedures for determining violations, dealing with individuals and organizations found to have committed violations, hearings and appeals, and sanctions. Its purpose is to provide a consistent and effective response to the use of banned substances and practices in Canadian sport.

Whom do the rules apply to? The rules only apply to member athletes and organizations participating at Ultimate Canada sanctioned events and athletes on Ultimate Canada's national representative teams. Ultimate Canada events include National and Provincial Championships, other Ultimate Canada sanctioned events, and international events.

All Ultimate Canada members must complete an Ultimate Canada waiver form (hard copy or digital). This waiver includes the understanding and acknowledgement of the Ultimate Canada Anti-Doping Policy.

What is a doping offence? A doping offence is defined in the WADA anti-doping rules as a non- therapeutic use of a prohibited substance or method. Most of the prohibited list is prescribed by WADA, and Ultimate Canada has taken the minimalist approach of only including mandatory substances and methods, consistent with the WFDF approach.

The WADA Prohibited List is reviewed on at least a yearly basis, and here is the link: http://www.wada-ama.org/en/World-Anti-Doping- Program/Sports-and-Anti-Doping-Organizations/International- Standards/Prohibited-List/

Therapeutic Use Exemptions (TUEs) In some cases players may be taking certain substances for medicinal or therapeutic reasons that are included in the Prohibited List. It is important that those players obtain a Therapeutic Use Exemption (“TUE”) prior to participating in any Ultimate Canada or international event or they will run the risk being disqualified and possibly banned from future competition.

In order to obtain a TUE, an athlete must apply to the Canadian Centre For Ethics In Sport and the application will be reviewed by a Therapeutic Exemption Use Committee (TUEC). It is also necessary that a physician verify that the prohibited substance or method is a necessary treatment. The athlete is notified by the TUEC regarding the status of their application and all applicable parameters.

To apply for a TUE please contact the Canadian Centre For Ethics In Sport: Fax: (613) 521-3134;

Email: [email protected]

Mail: 350, 955 Green Valley Crescent ON Canada K2C 3V4

The Centre defines its Therapeutic Use Exemptions and TUEs should generally be applied for at least 21 days prior to competition. For more information on the TUE Rules and procedures visit this link: http://www.cces.ca/en/medical

Obligations for Member Athletes & Organizations Compliance Ultimate Canada requires each member to comply with the Anti-Doping Policy. It is the responsibility of each member athlete and organization to review the Canadian Anti-Doping Program and WADA Prohibited List and comply with the rules.

Disciplinary Action The Canadian Anti-Doping Program sets forth the Rules, procedures for testing, and penalties for violation of the Rules. Ultimate Canada is entitled to participate in hearings involving its members. Penalties for athletes range up to lifetime exemption from all competitive sports, as determined by the program. Ultimate Canada reserves the right to enforce additional sanctions to its member athletes and organizations on a case-by-case basis.

Informing athletes Members and team organizers should ensure that all of their athletes competing in national events; 1. are familiar with the Canadian Anti-Doping Program 2. apply for TUEs in a suitable timeframe 3. sign the approval form
