Last week we featured the following ‘What’s Not Hot’ comment — “The guy on a bike seen dumping personal rubbish in the Bunnings bin”. Thanks to several people in the community letting us know, we found out this man is a volunteer who regularly cleans up rubbish along Te Ara Kihikihi — the 4.5km trail connecting Kihikihi and Te Awamutu. Every week he fills up a large bag of rubbish — usually junk people have tossed from their cars. This man didn’t want to be named or photographed, but he did want to thank Bunnings for letting him use their bins for the community service. O¯ haupo¯clinched winning Te Awamutu Darts preliminary round with a 19-4 victory over Rebels last Tuesday. With second placed Rosetown Rockets a threat to their title aspirations, O¯ haupo¯ was in no mood for any hiccup against winless Rebels. The match was as good as over after O¯ haupo¯’s David Bowers, Tama Reuben, Dayne Daniels, Tahi Bidois, Chris Gurnick and Dee Lepper cleaned up the triples 2-0, pairs 3-0 and first of three legs of singles 5-1 to lead 10-1 with 12 singles to play. Bowers and Daniels threw 180s, Bowers taking his tally of maximums in this competition alone to 10. O¯ haupo¯ finish the round with a nine wins, one loss record; their only loss was to Rosetown Rockets (12-11) in week eight. Rosetown Rockets were clearly the second best team in the competition with eight wins and two losses. Third placed Tungstens, with six wins, fully extended Rosetown Rockets in week 10, pipped 12-11.
