29 MAY Modena THE ESTENSE GALLERY IN MODENA REOPENS TO THE PUBLIC

After the earthquake in 2012, the Estense Gallery now reopens to the public. One of the most important dynastic art collections in Italy, it has a new layout and a greater number of works on display. Great masterpieces by Bernini, Velázquez, Correggio, El Greco and Cosmè Tura. FROM MAY TO OCTOBER Sassuolo EXHIBITION AT PALAZZO DUCALE IN SASSUOLO

Palazzo Ducale in Sassuolo, a masterpiece of the Baroque age, in addition to its splendid rooms with frescoes and stucco works, will house an extraordinary exhibition especially for Expo. More than three hundred paintings and sculptures from the collections at the Estense Gallery in Modena will be on show for the first time, in the recently restored rooms on the first floor. On special occasions, there will also be guided visits to the Centre for receipt and initial work on works damaged by the 2012 earthquake, this too housed in the Palazzo, and an extraordinary walk through the passage that leads to the Ducal park, offering a direct view of the monumental Ducal fish pool, called "Fontanazzo". Forms of artistic installation that draw inspiration from the district of fashion, textiles and clothing, the main production sector in Carpi. MAY AND JUNE Modena ARTEINCONTEMPORANEA

Organised by the Giovani Artisti, ArteinContemporanea is conceived as a full-immersion event of contemporary art, a pacific invasion of streets, squares and areas in the historical centre of the city by artists and works of art. The call for proposals invites young artists and young critics to enter projects that use the visual arts to interpret the themes of Expo 2015. Candidates who stand out for their quality, innovation and value of their entries will be picked. The works by the selected artists will be displayed in collective exhibitions (in May and June 2015, dates to be confirmed) in public spaces in the city and in public and private contemporary art galleries.

FROM MAY TO OCTOBER Modena ADOPT A BIANCA MODENESE COW

Four young artists will put together a photographic reportage, their different styles and sensibilities illustrating the farms and the companies, the men and women who are the “guardians” of the endangered autochthonous Bianca Modenese breed of cattle, which for more than a century has been closely linked with production of Parmigiano-Reggiano. The realistic imagination produced by these young artists will provide an immediately recognisable map of the rural and natural world, linking art with the territory and its products. The project will be supported by a website and the "Cowfunding" app for smartphones.

27 JUNE Spilamberto INSTALLATION ON BALSAMIC

An installation made from wood, by the artist Carlo Maria Morsiani, in the five main species of wood used to make the typical battery of barrels for Traditional Balsamic Vinegar from Modena. It narrates the purely aesthetic aspect of the richness of this product in food and wine terms. The Fiera di San Giovanni (St. John’s Fair) in Spilamberto attracts thousands of visitors with its displays of agricultural products, crafts and local industry. The programme also includes shows, sports competitions, exhibitions, children’s workshops, restaurants offering typical cuisine, markets and the poultry, rabbit and pigeon show, one of the biggest and most important in Italy. An event to promote the Rinascimento legacy and the square in Carpi. At the Palazzo Pio Museums “Costruire il tempo” (Building Time) is an exhibition on the design, creation and construction of the cathedral in Carpi. Research, design and distribution of the vinegar will be the responsibility of young designers, students and companies, via local workshops and an innovative ICT platform.
