Somerset County Council (Various Roads, Mendip) (Parishes of Litton, Priddy and Chewton Mendip) (Temporary Prohibition of Driving) (Special Events) Order 2019

Notice is hereby given that Somerset County Council in pursuance of the provisions of Section 16A to 16C of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, intend to make the above order the effect of which will be:

That no person shall cause or permit any vehicle to proceed in the lengths of roads specified in the Schedule to this notice during the times specified. The prohibition will operate as a rolling road closure and there will be no alternative route for vehicles for the duration of each part of the Order as the restrictions will be effective for so long as necessary for the participants to pass.

The Order will be made in respect of the Circuit of the Mendips National Series Cycle Race.

The Order shall come into operation at 1100 hours on 16th June 2019 and will continue in operation until 1400 hours on 16th June 2019.

Exemptions are provided in the Order for emergency vehicles and for any vehicle being used for the purposes of facilitating the Circuit of the Mendips National Series Cycle Race.

The Order will not have the effect of preventing at any time reasonable access for pedestrians to premises situated on or adjacent to any road which the Order relates or to any premises only accessible to pedestrians from such road.

All signage in respect of these road closures will be erected prior to, maintained throughout and removed immediately after the completion of the Circuit of the Mendips National Series Cycle Race.

Statement of reasons for proposing to make the Order

a) Because works are being or are proposed to be executed on or near the road; or b) because of the likelihood of danger to the public, or of serious damage to the road, which is not attributable to such works.

Somerset County Council in exercise of their powers under Section 16 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, and of all other enabling powers hereby makes the following Order:

1. The Order shall come into operation at 1100 hours on 16th June 2019 and will continue in operation until 1400 hours on 16th June 2019.

2. Save as provided in Article 3 of this Order no person shall cause or permit any vehicle to proceed in the lengths of road specified in the Schedule to this Order between the hours of 1100 and 14:00 on the 16th June

3. Nothing in Article 2 of this Order shall apply:

a. to anything done with the permission or at the direction of a police officer in uniform;

b. to any vehicle being used for police, fire brigade or ambulance purposes.

c. Vehicles falling within regulation 3(1), 3(2), 3(3) and 3(4) of the Road Traffic Exemptions (Special Forces) (Variation and Amendment) Regulations 2011(a) when used in accordance with regulation 3(5) of those Regulations.

d. to any vehicle being used for the purposes of facilitating the Circuit of the Mendips National Series Cycle Race.

This Order may be cited as Somerset County (Various Roads, Mendip) (Parishes of Litton, Priddy and Chewton Mendip) (Temporary Prohibition of Driving) (Special Events) Order 2019
