* Senior Emmy Andujar is just 178 points shy of 1,000 for his career QUICK HITS * Following Saturday’s game, Manhattan will travel to play at Massachusetts on Tuesday, Nov. 18 at 11 am in ESPN’s 24 Hours of Basketball Tip-Off Marathon. The Jaspers will then conclude the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament next weekend with games against Binghamton and either Northeastern or Navy in Uncasville, Conn.

* The first four Manhattan games and five of the Jaspers’ nine non-conference games will appear on theESPN family of networks. All told, Manhattan currently has five games slated for ESPN3 and one each for ESPN2 and ESPNU.

* Manhattan is 17-31, all-time, against current members of the ACC and will play Pittsburgh in December at the Peterson Events Center.

* Florida State is 10-1, all-time, against members of the MAAC and since dropping an 81-75 decision to Canisius on Jan. 25, 1975 has won seven-straight against MAAC opposition by an average of 20.3 points per game.

* In the annual MAAC Preseason Men’s Basketball Poll, Manhattan was tabbed to finish third with seniorEmmy Andujar named to the Second Team and junior Ashton Pankey the Third Team.

* The Jaspers defeated LIU Post in an exhibition game on Saturday, Nov. 15 by a 78-67 score with Pankey pacing five players in double-figures with 17 points and nine rebounds.

* This marks the second-straight season that Manhattan will play eight of its nine non-conference games either on the road or in neutral venues. Last season, the Jaspers won seven of those games, highlighted by a victory at SEC member South Carolina.

* Contesting arguably one of the toughest non-conference schedules in the Division I ranks, Manhattan will play six of its nine non-league games against teams from the Atlantic 10 (3), ACC (2) and Big Ten (1) while also potentially facing the CAA Preseason favorite (Northeastern).

* Additionally, Pittsburgh and Massachusetts played in the NCAA Tournament while Florida State advanced to the NIT Final Four a year ago.

* Manhattan will be playing in the state of the Florida for the second-straight game after not playing in the Sunshine State since dropping four games during the 2010-2011 season.

* The Jaspers were last victorious in Florida on December 20, 1994 when the Riverdale-based institution defeated FIU by a 70-57 count. That Jasper team featured current Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach Heshimu Evans and would go on to earn an At-Large berth to the 1995 NCAA Tourney before upsetting Oklahoma.

* Since Masiello assumed the reigns of the program prior to the 2011-2012 season, the Jaspers have posted an impressive 18-15 record against non-MAAC opposition, inlcuding going 12-11 away from the friendly confines of Draddy Gymnasium.

* Masiello’s 60 wins trail only current ESPN analyst for the most by a third-year coach. Since returning to Riverdale, Masiello has led Manhattan to the program’s fourth MAAC Championship as well as a pair of 20-plus win campaigns. In his first tenure, he was a part of two MAAC Championships and three 20-plus win seasons.

* All told, Masiello has been a part of three of the Jaspers’ four MAAC championships and five of their 12 20-win seasons while accruing a combined 143-75 record.

* Now beginning his 19th season as either a player or a coach, Masiello has a career collegiate record of 421-185, including 300-157 on the sidelines, with one National Title, one National Championship appearance, two Final Four appearances, six Elite Eight berths, seven conference championships, 12 NCAA Tournament appearances and 15 20-win seasons.

* Manhattan, which boasts a roster of eight New York City natives, returns two starters and five key reserves that averaged at least 10 minutes a game a year ago.

* The Jaspers, however, lost three 1,000-point scorers inMichael Alvarado, George Beamon and Rhamel Brown, who combined to account for 50.4 percent of the team’s offense and 38.7 percent of the rebounding.

* Leading the returners is Andujar, who averaged 8.6 points and 5.3 rebounds a year ago off the bench and picked up his play down the stretch. The Bronx native averaged 13.3 points and 6.0 rebounds each time out in Manhattan’s run to the league title before notching 13 against Louisville in the NCAA Tournament. He is also just 178 points away from becoming the 36th member of the school’s 1,000-point club.

* Also closing out the season in style was Pankey, who scored a team-best 16 points in just 20 minutes against Louisville. He notched 7.1 points and 4.3 rebounds each time out in his first season in Riverdale after transferring from Maryland.

* Junior Shane Richards, the 2012-2013 MAAC Co-Rookie of the Year, averaged 8.3 points each time out en route to matching the single-season school-record with 77 three pointers.

* Rounding out the upperclassmen are seniors RaShawn Stores (4.9 ppg) and Donovan Kates (2.3 ppg) with the duo along with Andujar most directly responsible for resurrecting a program that had won just six games in the year prior to their arrival.

* Manhattan went 20-1 when leading at halftime a year ago, 16-1 when limiting the opposition to less than 70 points and 5-2 on Saturdays.

* The Jaspers ranked among the National Leaders a year ago inblocks per game (6.1-9th), steals per game (8.3-14th), winning percentage (.758-26th), scoring margin (+6.9-50th), field-goal percentage defense (.409-50th), offensive rebounds (12.6-52nd), three-point field-goal percentage (.369-68th), turnover margin (+1.42-82nd), three-point field-goal percentage defense (.327-88th) and defensive rebounds (24.8-93rd) while also ranking fourth nationally with 1,019 free throw attempts and 10th with 676 free throw makes. After just three years at the helm, Manhattan College head coach Steve Masiello has quickly restored the winning tradition to the storied men’s basketball program in Riverdale, laying the foundation for the Jaspers’ return to prominence.

In March 2014, Manhattan won the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship, defeating Iona 71-68 for their 25th win of the season. It was the Jaspers’ first MAAC title and the first 25-win campaign since the 2003-2004 season. For his efforts, Masiello earned the prestigious 2014 Metropolitan Coach of the Year, awarded by the Met Writers Association.

Masiello has rejuvenated Manhattan with strong national recruiting while transforming the program into a top MAAC contender for years to come.

Despite a number of key early-season injuries in 2012-2013, the Jaspers rallied to win eight of their last 11 games down the stretch. Manhattan reached the MAAC Title game for the first time in nine years, coming up just three points short of reaching the NCAA Tournament in a miraculous run.

After the season,Rhamel Brown was named second team All-MAAC, second team All-Metropolitan and the MAAC Defensive Player of the Year. The accolades continued for the Jaspers as Shane Richards earned MAAC Co-Rookie of the Year honors and RaShawn Stores joined Richards on the All-Rookie Team.

In his first season at Manhattan, the Jaspers enjoyed the biggest turnaround in the nation, posting 21 victories in 2011-2012, a NCAA-best 15-win improvement from the previous season. It went down as the largest turnaround in program history while the 21 wins were the second most wins by a Manhattan first-year head coach, trailing only Jasper Hall of Famer Fran Fraschilla’s 23 in 1992-93.

As a result of the Jaspers’ marked improvement, Masiello shared Metropolitan Co-Coach of the Year honors with Dan Hurley while leading the Jaspers to their first postseason appearance since 2006. Manhattan advanced to the Second Round of the CollegeInsider.com Tournament (CIT) while registering three All- MAAC selections, including First Team honoree and league scoring champion George Beamon.

The Jaspers have also excelled in the classroom under Masiello. Three players earned both MAAC All-Academic distinction and the prestigious Honors Court recognition by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) in 2012.

Masiello was named Manhattan’s 23rd head coach in program history on April 11, 2011. He returned to his native New York after spending six years in the Big East as an assistant at Louisville under head coach Rick Pitino.

Over his six-year tenure with the Cardinals, Masiello helped lead Louisville to a 148-61 (.708) overall record, six straight 20-win seasons and four NCAA Tournament appearances. The Cardinals advanced to the Elite Eight twice (2008 & 2009) during that time while Masiello played a vital role in building Louisville’s 2009 Big East Championship team, which won 31 games, including a program record 16 in conference, and entered the NCAA Tournament as the No. 1 overall seed.

One of the nation’s most renowned recruiters, Masiello effectively directed the Cardinals’ recruiting efforts by signing four Top-20 recruiting classes, which included four McDonald’s All-Americans over his time in Louisville. The program’s 2008 recruiting class garnered a No. 4 national ranking, featuring 2008 USA Today High School National Player of the Year and future NBA player Samardo Samuels.

Masiello was named one of the nation’s Top 25 collegiate assistant coaches according to FoxSports.com (2010) & Rivals.com (2007). He managed Louisville’s game preparation and scouting responsibilities for his last three years with the program as the Cardinals amassed a 76-29 (.724) overall record, including a 39-15 (.722) mark in the Big East during this stretch.

Masiello is back in Riverdale for his second coaching tenure at Manhattan. He previously helped lead the Jaspers to three postseason appearances in four years (2001-2005) as an assistant, which included two trips to the NCAA Tournament (2003 & 2004) and one to the NIT (2002). Under his tutelage, Manhattan posted an 83-36 (.697) overall record and won the 2003 & 2004 MAAC Championships with Masiello.

During that time Masiello also helped the Jaspers to arguably one of the finest wins in program history when Manhattan defeated Florida in the First Round of the 2004 NCAA Tournament. In terms of player development, Masiello helped Luis Flores blossom into a NBA Player.

A four-year member of the Wildcats’ basketball team, Masiello, played under head coaches Rick Pitino (1996-1997) and (1997-2000). During his playing career, Kentucky went to the Final Four twice (1997 & 1998), advancing to the National Championship game both times and winning the title in 1998. Masiello was named the Wildcats’ co-captain his senior year.

Masiello hails from White Plains, N.Y., and attended Archbishop Stepinac High School. He completed his final two years at the Harvey School in Katonah, N.Y., where he helped the basketball program win the New England Prep School Athletic Association Championship. Masiello also served as a ball boy for the New York Knicks during his youth. Steve Masiello Information Masiello’s Winning Ways Quick Hits
