The 9th International Conference on Internet Multimedia Computing and Service (ICIMCS 2017) was held during August 23–25, 2017, at Tsingtao, China. ICIMCS focuses on pushing the frontier of multimedia computing technology in a variety of application domains. During the past 8 years, ICIMCS has successfully facilitated the communications of state-of-the-art progress made by multimedia researchers and participants worldwide. With the venue mainly based in China, ICIMCS presents highly-quality research papers and technical presentations organized by influential scholars in the multimedia community. Therefore, ICIMCS offers a great opportunity for the international community to know and get involved in the fast development of Chinese research in multimedia such as computer vision, natural language processing, and data knowledge understanding. ICIMCS 2017 was organized at Shandong University of Science and Technology, Qingdao, Shandong. We gratefully thank Shandong University of Science and Tech- nology for its generous support of ICIMCS 2017. Perched on the southern tip of the Shandong Peninsula, Qingdao is well-known to the West by its postal map spelling of Tsingtao. It is known as “Pearl on the Yellow River” and “China’s .” The most famous beer of China—Tsingtao Beer—is produced here. We hope that our venue made ICIMCS 2017 a memorable experience for all participants. We received 103 paper submissions, covering topics of multimedia information fusion, image processing and object recognition, machine learning and representation learning, as well as multimedia retrieval. The submitted papers were reviewed by the Technical Program Committee, consisting of 68 reviewers. Each paper was reviewed by at least two reviewers. The program chairs carefully considered the input and feedback from the reviewers and accepted 48 papers (46.6%) to the main conference. Among the accepted papers, 20 were oral papers and 28 were poster papers. This volume of the conference proceedings contains all the oral and poster papers. The technical program is an important aspect but only achieves its full impact if complemented by challenging keynotes. We are extremely pleased and grateful to have had three exceptional keynote speakers, Bin Hu, Jingdong Wang, and Xiansheng Hua, accept our invitation and present interesting ideas and insights at ICIMCS 2017. We are heavily indebted to many individuals for their significant contributions. First, we are very grateful to all the authors who contributed their high-quality research and shared their knowledge with our scientific community. Second, we wish to thank all Organizing and Program Committee members, reviewers, session chairs, student volunteers, and supporters. Their contributions are much appreciated. We hope you all enjoy the proceedings of ICIMCS 2017.
