Scope of Course

The 4-day trip will focus on the geologic processes that shape the Death Valley region. Emphasis will be on the tectonic forces that have shaped the rocks and landscape of Death Valley. Other topics will include the volcanic history, mineral and mining resources, climate history, and development of desert landforms.

Logistics:

Maximum 25 students

Camping in Furnace Creek Campground, Death Valley National Park. Student carpool and caravan in private vehicles. Students will arrange & manage their own carpool groups.

The trip begins in Baker, CA at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, March 26; the drive to Baker, CA is approx. 5 hours. The trip ends in , CA at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 29; the return drive is approx. 5 hours. Total driving distance is approx. 1000 miles.

Per Student Cost:

Itinerary

Planned sites/field trip stops include: Saratoga Springs, Split Cinder Cone, Badwater, Devil’s Golf Course, , Dante’s View, Artist’s Palette, , Rhyolite Ghost Town, , Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes, Mosaic Canyon, Eureka Mine, and Darwin Falls.
