That Columbus Trophy 2016 7 spirit is still the same today.

The IC has grown and there are Potter Cup 2014, 2015, 2016 8 – 9 now 40 countries around the wor- ld which have an International Club. 5 La Carreta 2014 / Wallenberg Trophy

La Carreta 2014

The German IC staged La Carreta trophy from 5th-8th September in Heidelberg. The venue and hospitality, organized by Alex Kurucz, president of IC Germany, were superb. Four IC teams participated: France, Germany, Belgium and Great Britain. The event was played on a round-robin basis and despite GB losing to France on the first day, they won the event, which was only decided after the last ball of the wee- kend was hit. GB and France ended with the same number of wins but GB lost one fewer set and therefore were declared the winners of the 2014 La Carreta Trophy.

The results of the ties:

IC France win the Columbus Trophy again

The 13th edition of the Columbus Tro- phy took place at the 103-years-old Delhi Gymkhana Club grass courts on 2nd – 5th November, and was inaugurated by the President of the Delhi Gymkhana Club, Lt. Gen IJ Singh (retd). Unfortunately, Pakis- tan had to withdraw beforehand, leaving 7 strong participating teams. This was led by the world number one in the over 55’s ca- tegory, Frenchman Jacques Hervet, whilst the Indian team was led by Indian players Ramesh Krishnan, Nandan Bal and Jasjit Singh.

French winners from left: Xavier Lemoine, Daniel Montel, Thierry Froget, Jacques Hervet, Gilles Dugardin The 7 IC-teams were divided in 2 groups playing a “round robin” format. Group 1 consisted of Japan, France and India “Spins”, group 2 of GB, Belgium, Argentina and India “Slices”. Group 1 saw Japan and France qualify for the semifinals, whilst GB and Belgium went through in Group 2. In the first semifinals, led by the experienced Jacques Hervet, France were in top form and easily defeated the British team, 4-1. The second semifinal was a closer affair, which ended up in a 3-3 draw between the Belgians and Japanese. However, as per the Columbus Trophy rules, Belgium qualified for the finals by virtue of having won more games.

In the finals, unfortunately the Belgi- um number 1 player, Philippe Vercruysse Belgium finalists from left: Philippe Vercruysse, Frederich Dewaegneire, Robert van Malder, picked up an injury mid match. Overall, Michel de Marneffe, Alex Lamquet France displayed their tenaciousness and experience, and comfortably won all four singles to clinch their second consecutive Columbus Trophy.

Playoff matches were played to decide the finishing positions, leaving the final stan- dings as follows: 1. France, 2. Belgium, 3. GB 4. Japan, 5. India Spins 6. Argentina, 7. India Slices

The prize giving ceremony was held at the beautiful Terrace Gardens of The Taj Mahal, New Delhi’s premier hotel, by Vikas Singh, president of IC India, who gained great re- cognition for the perfect organization and Columbus Trophy participating teams warm hospitality.
