NATIONAL Union Govt introduces ‘green tariff’ policy  The union government is working on a green tariff policy that will help electricity distribution companies (discoms) supply electricity generated from clean energy projects at a cheaper rate as compared to‘ power from’ conventional fuel sources such as coal.  This was announced by power and new and renewable energy minister Raj Kumar Singh who said the government was in the process of formulating a set of rules and guidelines to enable such a mechanism.  Once the mechanism is in place, discoms can exclusively buy green electricity and supply it at green tariff , which will be the weighted average tariff of green energy that the consumer will pay.  This comes ‘in the backdrop’ of India s solar and wind power tariffs hitting an all-time low of 1.99 per unit and Rs.2.43 per unit respectively.  India is running the world s largest’ clean energy programme to achieve 175 gigawatt(GW) of renewable capacity, including 100GW of solar power by 2022. Union Cabinet approved merger ’ of Central Railside Warehouse Company Ltd with Central Warehousing Corporation  Taking another step towards implementing the direction of Minimum Government Maximum Governance given by Prime Minister, promoting ease of doing business and bringing private sector efficiencies in Public Sector Undertakings,“ the Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister” Shri Narendra Modi has approved to merge and transfer all assets, liabilities, rights and obligations of Central Rail side Warehouse Company Limited (CRWC), a Mini-Ratna Category-II Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSE) incorporated under the Companies Act, 1956‘ in 2007 with its holding enterprise Central’ Warehousing Corporation (CWC).  The merger will unify similar functions of both the companies (i.e., warehousing, handling,‘ transportation) through’ a single administration to promote efficiency, optimum capacity utilization, transparency, accountability, ensure financial savings and leverage railway siding for new warehousing capacities.

STATE GOVT NEWS World’s 1st GM rubber sapling planted in Assam  World s First GM Rupper Developed at the Kerala-based Rubber Research Institute of India (RRII), the sapling was planted by Rubber Board chairman and executive director’ KN Raghavan at the board s farm in Sarutari near Guwahati.  The GM rubber plant, the first of its kind developed exclusively for the northeast, is expected to thrive in the climatic conditions’ of the region.  The plant, which has additional copies of gene MnSOD (manganese containing superoxide dismutase) in it, is expected to revolutionize natural rubber production in India.  The plant was developed at the Kerala-based Rubber Research Institute of India (RRII) after years of research at its biotechnology laboratory and is expected to grow under the climatic condition of the northeast.  KN Raghavan, Chairman and Executive Director of the Rubber Board stated that the genetically modified rubber plant, the first of its kind developed exclusively for this region, is expected to grow well under the climatic conditions of the mountainous northeastern region. Maharashtra cabinet gave nod to Amendments for Protection of “Heritage Trees”  An amendment to the Maharashtra (Urban Areas) Protection and Preservation of Trees Act, 1975 to bring in the concept of heritage trees was approved in a meeting of the Maharashtra Cabinet.  It is expected to come into force by way of ordinance.“ ”  The Cabinet also green-lighted the formation of the Maharashtra Tree Authority, which will take all decisions regarding protection of trees.  It will have responsibility related to protection and conservation of trees, including heritage trees .  The Act will focus on increasing tree cover in urban areas. “ ” “ INTERNATIONAL NSG signed MOU with RRU  With focus on a dual mission, the National Security Guard (NSG) and the Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for cooperation and collaboration aimed at strengthening the core competencies of the NSG, which are counter-terrorism, counter-IEDs, and anti-hijacking.  DG NSG M A Ganapathy and Prof (Dr) Bimal N Patel, Vice-Chancellor RRU signed the MoU at the Manesar campus of NSG.  The MoU also aims to contribute to capacity-building and providing assistance to Indian start-ups focused on security by helping them to understand the specific requirements and the problem statements formulated by NSG for design and research projects. NATIONAL Central Govt employees can claim HBA benefit  With an aim to help central government employees who want to construct their own house, the center is offering House Building Advance (HBA) benefits to all central government servants (CGS).  The basic interest rate charged on this HBA is 7.9 percent and the benefit will remain available till 31st March 2022.  Keeping 7th pay commission pay matrix and 7th CPC approval provisions in focus, the center has already updated the HBA guidelines for the central government servants.  About House Building Advance  The Central Government employees, who wish to construct their own home, can avail the House Building Advance (HBA).  The HBA amount for expansion of the house is capped at Rs.10 lakh or 34 months of basic pay or cost of the expansion of the house or amount according to repaying capacity, whichever is the least. PM Modi to launch Bengaluru Suburban railway project: Karnataka CM  Karnataka CM announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would lay the foundation stone for the Bengaluru Suburban Rail project within the next three months.  Special train from Bengaluru Cantonment station to Heelalige station to inspect two doubling projects and the Suburban Rail Project, the CM stated that the Centre had given the green signal to go in for external borrowings to the tune of Rs 7,400 crore for the Rs 15767 crore project.  The project is being implemented by K-RIDE (Karnataka Rail Infrastructure Development Enterprises), a special purpose vehicle jointly set up by the state and Centre.  Both will share 20 percent each of the project cost and the rest would be through borrowings.  On June 22, 2021, the International Energy Forum (IEF) informed India that it has agreed to host the 9th Asian Ministerial Energy Roundtable (AMER9) in 2022.  It will take forward the understandings reached in the previous meeting in Abu Dhabi during 2018.  The Summit was co-hosted by India.  The Summit Focusing on global energy security in the age of change.  About International Energy Forum :  The International Energy Forum (IEF) is the world s largest energy organisation with 71 member countries, accounting for 90% of the global energy market.  The Forum holds energy dialogue promotes energy’ security, market stability and transparency in the transition to a sustainable and inclusive future.

APPOINTMENT NEWS Mastercard appoints Nikhil Sahni as Country Corporate Officer in India  Global payments technology major Mastercard announced the appointment of Nikhil Sahni as the new Division President, South Asia and Country Corporate Officer, India.  Sahni replaces Porush Singh, who will be relocating to Singapore and will assume a new role within the company.  He will oversee Mastercard s operations, and position the company s extensive suite of products, solutions and services across the sub-continent, including Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Maldives’ and Bhutan, in addition to India. ’  Nikhil has nearly 25 years of experience in strategy, investment banking, corporate, commercial, SME, retail, branch, and government banking. Odisha state govt appointed 41 Honorary Wildlife Wardens  The State government appointed 41 Honorary Wildlife Wardens (HWWs) across all the districts as per the provision of Wildlife (Protection) Act 1972.  They have been appointed for a period of two years till June 2023.  Wildlife conservationist Aditya Chandra Panda along with Pradeep Kumar Sahoo has been appointed as the HWWs for Angul district.  Snake Helpline general secretary Subhendu Mallik is the new HWW for Khurda district.  Apart from Mallik, Speak for Animal founder Kusal Biswas and Jyotirmaya Barik will also serve as HWWs of Khurda.  Pradipta Kabi, Akshay Kumar Mohanty and Bibekananda Pattnaik have been appointed as the HWWs for Mayurbhanj district, while Sibaram Sahoo and Hrudananda Naik will look into Sambalpur district.  Suresh Chandra Tripathy will be the HWW for Cuttack, while Bijay Kumar Dash and Surya Narayan Lenka would look into Dhenkanal and Kendrapara respectively.  The appointments were delayed for around a year as terms of the HWWs appointment in the State had expired in July 2020.
