Hard to believe but we’ve only got three programmes lef, barring of course an FAI Cup quarter and/or semi-fnal home draw which will extend the run to a relatvely more respectable look. Of course we all know the reason for the that, the year which we shall write of come beter days. As it stands we don’t even know what next year’s calendar will be like. I dread to think how that will be afected if things don’t improve with that virus. Premier Division I was thinking back to when we rebooted the league and I was preparing 1923/24, 1927/28, 1929/30, for the frst programme back, against . As it stood then in a mild 1933/34, 1935/36, 1974/75, July, we would only play one match behind closed doors before a small 1977/78, 2000/01, 2002/03, trickle of support would be allowed come back once more. Our plan was 2008, 2009 to produce an online editon for that game while resuming printng for the subsequent editons, something which the whole programme team and of FAI Cup course the lads at Just-Print looked forward to. Because no mater what, 1927/28, 1934/35, 1969/70, there’s nothing like fitng through a freshly printed match programme 1975/76, 1991/1992, before the match. Online editons, while serving a purpose of sorts, just 2000/01, 2008 don’t ofer that same satsfacton. Almost two months in and we’re stll here totng up these online League Cup editons. It has ofen slipped my mind while putng an editon together 1974/75, 1978/79, 2009 that it will only get as far as PDF format and won’t be added to my collecton. That’s why I was adamant the Europa League editon be printed. Setanta Cup There’s no way on Earth we could let the 50th anniversary of our frst 2010 match in Europe competton pass us by. The content was of the general kind so nothing had dated come kick-of. Leinster Cup Other teams are producing print editons, but if their producton path 1895/95 - 2016: follows a similar curve to ours then that would mean a lot of content would A record 32 ttles be out of date come match day which, to me, is not an opton and would LoI Shield achieve nothing but confusion. But we’ll have our print-day again and soon. The emergence and form of Dawson Devoy has been one of the many positves this season for the Bohemian faithful. The composure and assurance he displays in that number jersey is commendable for a man so young and he looks for all the world like a lad who has been around a lot longer than he has. A whisker away from his frst Bohemian goal with a superb curling shot against Dundalk, he showed his confdence with a long-range lob against St.Pat’s from just inside the halfway line. Alas, Dawson’s efort dropped just over the bar but surely that frst strike is not far away. Disappointments in Budapest and then notwithstanding, he is loving his football at Bohs and is keen to work hard, develop his game and become more and more of a frst team opton for eith Long. It was really tough to take, he said afer the fnal whistle in Tallaght last Saturday. e didn’t start as well as we’d have liked but I thought we were the beter side in the second half and were worth at least a draw. When Sean Connor was appointed as manager of Bohemians in 00 opinion diferedon on whether he was the one to steer the Sclub from the wreckage of the previous few seasons. Like any incoming manager he was accompanied by new players, one of whom from Swansea City was goalkeeper Brian Murphy, a relatve unknown who had only made league starts in six years with Swansea and a solitary appearance for Peterborough nited whole on loan from Manchester City. Impressive performances in pre-season friendlies gave him the edge over rival Lee Boyle and clean sheets out of league games in his debut season told us all we needed to know. Fed on a less than mercurial goalkeeping diet that included Stephen O’Brien, Ashley Bayes and Mat regg in recent years, Murphy’s performances were well received and his 00 contributon helped Bohs to the best defensive record in the league. This was emulated with a Soccer riters Associaton award of Best oalkeeper in the League, something which no doubt helped incoming manager keep faith with the keeper as he began his tenure at Dalymount. ith the next few years heaping riches and rewards to the trophy cabinet Murphy’s performances excelled and he is best remembered that season for his double-save in the FAI Cup Final penalty shoot-out against Derry City. orth notng also is a record of 0 clean sheets in league matches, earning the Eircom League of Ireland Premier Division Player of the Season for 00. An extraordinary FAI Cup fourth round match saw Murphy score and save two penaltes in a shoot-out win over Dundalk. Adding another league ttle and a League Cup medal to his collecton, his last acton in a Bohemian jersey was the fnal league match of the 00 season against Bray anderers, marking his th league appearance in a career which saw him keep a staggering clean sheets. is fnal contributon to Bohemians was a call-up to the Irish squad for the two-legged orld Cup qualifcaton match against France as a replacement for ieron estwood.
