Eyelash and Tinting Information and Care

What is Eyelash/Eyebrow Tinting: This procedure is to enhance the overall appearance of the lashes and/or brows using semi- permanent pigments applied directly to the lashes and/or brows to create deeper, richer color. Eyelash/brow tinting will darken lightly- colored natural lashes but does not add thickness or length.

Eyelashes: If black mascara is what you normally use, choosing a dark brown or black tint may help benefit your overall look. Mascara may still be necessary for thickening the lashes, but tinting helps give definition to your eyes even if you don’t have mascara on.

Eyebrows: Those with very pale skin and very blond or almost-white lashes or brows, may find tinting helps add depth to their facial features. But, avoid going too dark for brows. Going too dark can look harsh. It is best to choose a more natural golden look, like a soft brown, that will accentuate your eyes, create the illusion of fullness without looking artificial or unnatural. Brunettes who have gone blond, or who have blond highlights, may want to tone their brows down to create a more balanced appearance.

Before Your Session:

A patch test is required to check for allergic reaction to the dye. This takes only a few minutes and must be completed 48 hours, or more, prior to your appointment. A small amount of the dye is applied to the inside of the elbow, behind the ear, or both then left uncovered for 48 hours. Your technician then must visually inspect the results prior to proceeding with the procedure. Note: This procedure can not be done if you are suffering from an eye infection. Please wait until it clears completely to schedule.

You should have received an Intake and Consent Form and informational material regarding this procedure. If not already done so, you will be asked to complete them. A brief consultation will be done regarding your current physical condition, stress level and other pertinent information in order to make this a more valuable experience. You should expect a peaceful and comfortable environment for your service or treatment. Please notify me of any distractions, whether from physical discomfort, room temperature, music volume, or any other source.

 Do not tweeze or wax your brows prior to your tint. These should be done AFTER to allow for maximizing the amount of brow available for shaping.  If you wear contact lenses, remove them before your appointment.  It is recommended you remove all eye make-up and mascara.  Eyelash tinting may be used along with Xtreme Lashes® but it is recommended the eyelash tinting be performed at least 24 hours prior to the application of extensions.

During Your Session:

 You will be comfortably reclined with head slightly elevated.  A barrier, such as petrolatum jelly, will be applied around the eye areas to protect it from the dye.  Special sticky eye shields are placed under bottom lashes to protect lower eyelash lids from the dye.  Dye is meticulously applied to upper and lower eyelashes, where it will remain for 5-10 minutes to penetrate the .  The eyes will then be rinsed, from inside to outside corners, with normal saline and lashes thoroughly cleansed to remove any remaining residue.

The entire process takes approximately 20-30 minutes. While the results may vary, just like regular coloring a touch-up may be necessary between 4-6 weeks.

Possible Adverse Affects, Risks: Although eyelash and eyebrow tinting services are being performed everyday in salons and day spas there exists some controversy as to the safety of these procedures. The products used to tint or dye the lashes and brows are not yet FDA approved. The FDA has issued many warnings against the use of permanent aniline-derived eyebrow and eyelash dyeing and the cosmetology industry agrees, opting instead for harmless coloring ingredients. However the FDA has not yet officially deemed any dye or tint safe for use on lashes or brows. The ultimate decision is up to you. While every precaution has been taken for your
